(They do all their buying in Europe.) it's definitely higher end, though I have also found some really great things on their sale rack. This is retail at its finest due to the personal attention. The owners are so sweet and very honest. (Plus, they have great taste.) They'll style you and happily bring you things if you'd like. I can always count on them - if something doesn't look good they'll let me know. I've also bought things off of their Instagram and they happily drop it off at my home in one of their gorgeous bags. That's awesome. I always leave with great styles & feeling cheerful. I have several friends who feel the same. .

It's a beautiful warm and humid day in Chicago and the walk was good. The place is very quaint and small but well lit for shopping. It's a woman's boutique specializing in European clothing. The major designer is Solar and I have not heard of it, but designs are suited for a dressier woman. Thankfully that counts me in as I work in an office where jeans are not allowed and it's conservative so the weekends I can go casual. Back to the store the sizes are European and the lady at the counter (I am assuming is the owner) was very kind to tell me that 34 is usually x-small, 36 is small and 38 is medium. I'm usually a medium but some of her clothing allow for a 34 when I tried on a pair of white slacks. It had a great fit, but buying white is difficult because the material may be more revealing than you might like. Her clothes has many price points as she indicated and sales from the previous season is 20% off. Her summer selection drove me to walk in full of blight yellows, pink, and orange. Do stop in if you're in the neighborhood and support local small businesses!

UPDATE MARCH 2017 Since their move south a couple blocks to…read morethe spot across the street from the newish Mickey Finn's, Serendipity seems to have really upped their game. They are a favorite place to stop on First Fridays, when I can hardly get in the door! And the stream of new and fun fashions and accessories is non-stop. Service is friendly and personal, too. Still one of my favorite stops. This is like shopping in a dear friend's great closet. Although the store is tiny, the variety always surprises me, and the service can't be beat. I find interesting items I find nowhere else, and while their prices are consistent with other stores, their sale items make them more affordable. There is even a comfortable place to sit! I have purchased tops, purses, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, and other items. Easy to miss since it is north of Casa Bonita and before the train tracks, up a couple of stairs. But with such a uniquely-vintage location and terrific items and service, it is worth the extra steps. Easy parking right in front, or in the copious parking lots around the corner on Lake Street. No I do not work for them - I am just a huge fan and want to be sure they stay in town!

I have shopped here off and on for years. Sometimes the service is scattershot, sometimes too…read morepushy. But I overlooked this, as the merchandise was usually decent. However, after my visit today, I will no longer be patronizing this business. After trying on several items, I wanted to purchase a dress. However, said item had hairs on it, to a noticeable degree (the customer checking out next to me agreed). Besides being obviously unhygienic, I was worried about allergies, as I am alergic to cats and wondered if somebody with an animal had tried it on previously. When I got up to the front and asked for an additional 10% off for this (as I would need to have it cleaned before wearing), the owner played the nut role and made me repeat my request by saying, "Well, what do you want me to do about it?" When I reiterated my request, she silently rang me up and presented my $124 worth of merchandise without so much as a thank you or a smile. Obviously, in a snit. I chewed on this, went to the bathroom and then calmly said to her that I was a regular customer, had been for years, and I wondered (since during my previous visits, I have never gotten the full service that the older white customers seem to get, as I can hear them being helped and conversed with while I am not checked on) whether she would be acting like she was doing me a favor by selling to me if I wasn't black. Just as a "shot in the dark", so to speak, since she was so short-tempered and rude to me. And she said, "Let's not go there." Which is not an apology. Or even a proper rebuttal, I might add. Now, in my experience, as a 50-year-old black woman working and living in virtually all white spaces my entire life, when people say something like that to you, in a dismissive, hostile tone, that you have struck a nerve. Especially when you are not even given the benefit of eye contact. Which is to say, I was right. They have many a good sale here as of late, no doubt due to the state of the economy and the lack of interest in brick and mortar stores. My hope, however is that when you patrons out there DO go to a retail space in person, you choose one that treats ALL customers with the respect, kindness and humanity no doubt EVERYONE deserves. Which certainly can't be found at Accents Plus. Who should settle for anything less?

First of all, imagine the song Boum! by Charles Trenet playing in your head while you shop. This place made my heart go boom and love being a woman again. For those who know me well, I never shop for myself because I'm bored with the usual. But, when I stepped into this darling shop with French flair all over it, I was immediately transported and found it very hard to leave. Every nook and cranny was filled with something wonderful. Delightful soaps, lotions, perfumes, jewelry, paper, gifts, artwork, and one-of-a-kind and unique threads the girl next door won't be wearing. I really really adore the Scrapbook clothing brand mixed in with others I've never heard of. The majority of the store's clothing picks are soft, luxurious, tailored, drapey, and feminine. This is where you come for that special dress, or everyday outfit that will make you want to get up in the morning. Pricing...very reasonable. Sale item dresses as low as $25. Everything is affordable. Great quality items, but you have to pick through the sizes (as with any boutique shopping experience). Don't worry there is something for everyone here. The customer service is outstanding. Walking in for the first time, I was led around the store and directed to new collections, sale items, lounge wear, fun brands, and even given a party invitation to their Sweet 16 (celebrating 16 years in business on the 16th)! 20% off already great original prices - how can I not do everything in my power to be there! Thank you Marie Parie for giving me a new reason to make it to Main Street for a shopping spree. And, Brothers K Coffee is just a couple doors down. One of my favorite coffee houses.
