gaston is the best this happened last night, july 2nd. at 11 pm on the saturday before 4th of july. we went out all day, came home. 10 minutes later, power went out but only for our apartment. my gf is on dialysis, so her equipment needs power to function. by the time i got access to the basement, it was well after midnight. found gaston on yelp, he picked up almost immediately and in under 1 hour he was here. fixed the problem quickly, helped us out TREMENDOUSLY. if gaston had not been available we would have been in a terrible situation. after midnight on a holiday weekend? only a good hearted soul would come through in a time of need like this, saved us a hotel stay, an entire refrigerator's worth of food, plus difficulties with dialysis!! read more

I must say he is a skilled and competent electrician. I only wish he would have made me aware of all my possible options before beginning the job which involved changing a wall box and replacing the switch within. He quoted one price range over the phone, but it was higher when he came and saw it. Being given a receipt changed the price to include additional sales tax, and cash was his only form of payment. I think these terms should be made clear before arrival. I only wish his business acumen was as good as his electrical skills. read more

Over the weekend minding my own business half of the electricity goes out in my home. Naturally the effected part included the circuits to my boiler so not heat or hot water Saturday night into Sunday. Went on Yelp and found Nair Electriical Corp and they said they had Sunday hours. Having nothing to lose, called the number and Gaston answered the phone, explained my problem and he said he would be here within the hour. True to his word, calls me and hes here, goes to basement circuit breaker boxes and checks the voltage and quickly determines it was a Con Ed issue and gave us a temporary fix meaning heat, hot water and all lights are working. He even called Con Ed explained the problem and got us a ticket for a tech to permanently resolve the problem. So miracles do happen on Sundays and I would not hesitate using Nair Electrical again if the situation arose. read more

Customer service????? I called them on Friday and I was told they'd try to come on Friday. They called and told me they'd come around 230PM. I had to leave for an emergency at work at 3, when the tech showed up and I told him I wasn't here but I left someone to show him what needs to get done his response was " You gotta be kidding me, why are you wasting my time? I'm not going to go and deal with someone I haven't spoken to". I explained my emergency but he insisted that I was wasting his time. At that point i told him with that attitude I didn't want him working for me or anyone I know. His attitude sucked and I don't recommend them ever. Electricians are dime a dozen. Customer Service???? I'm going to be honest. Never had this guy do any work as I fired him before he even got started. Called him on a Saturday for an 11am Sunday appointment. Up until then it was all good. So this guy arrives and we start going through the 2 ceiling light fixtures and a ceiling fan instal (and moving it about 1.5 ft - so moving the box etc). - but not patching up or anything - just rewiring and mounting. He first starts off by telling me to move the box and install the fan is going to be $275. huh. higher than I expected, but okay. Then he looks at the ceiling lights and tells me it's $175 for the first hour and $50 for each additional HALF hour (=$100/hr)....wowzers. I start doing the math....$275 + $175...we haven't even started and I'm in it for $550?? .... This job is taking him a max of probably, what, like 3hrs? That comes to an hourly rate of $183 per hour...WTF? Lawyers charge that kind of money. Wow, I must have hired the BEST fricking electrician in NYC man. What really killed me was that after he gives me this premium pricing, he then proceeds to also give me push back on the lights I wanted to install. Crazy. Look, get a clue man, if I'm paying you $183/hour your only answer is "YES, I can totally do that for you." and find a way to make it happen. Sheesh. How do you stay in business? read more

Last Wednesday I called to make an appointment. Was told they were busy through Saturday with a school project but that they could do the following week. How about Tuesday? Yes, they said, no problem. Just call us the day before. So on Monday I called. Asked if I could make an appointment for Tuesday. Yes, that is fine, they said. It was also convenient that he had some light switches with him so he was able to replace my old one without me having to go buy it myself. I ran into a problem when I tried to relocate a switch and outlet. I got confused by some wiring. I was in a hurry to get this fixed since we needed get the room finished. I searched Yelp.com and found Nair Electrical in our area. I contacted him and got a response right away. The next day Gaston came over and fixed our issue right away. I was able to use my credit card. There was another small job, I needed to put up a fixture with a new switch and he was able to do that while he was there. Unlike other contractors he was not in a rush to leave, he made sure I was happy with the work and he cleaned up himself. Many contractors leave their trash behind. I plan to use him again and again. Rates are reasonable but always ask how much a job will cost before agreeing to the terms of the price, and use the coupon when you can. read more

Plugged an old appliance into an old outlet and saw a big scary spark, the entire house went dark and my phone had 10% battery left and my hair full of conditioner. I called the fire department and they did not want to turn back on my lights because of safety reasons. They told me to call an electrician. I called about 4 different places/handy men from yelp and none of the places were able to make it out but thankfully I came across Nair and they were wonderful. Do not go with Nair. I am surprised at the past positive reviews given my negative experience. I hired him to simply diagnose and fix a faulty breaker to an Ac unit. He charged me a surprisingly exorbitant fee - $250+tax for less than 30 minutes - up from the usual $175/hr as apparently it was a problem of a 'commercial' nature. (He separately offered to 'diagnose' my ac problems as well for a low price of $500, and I refused.) Which I suppose I might have been ok with had the problem been fixed as he claimed. Unfortunately it was not and the reset on the breaker worked only sporadically. Not only did the experience cost me his fee but also fees for additional visits from hvac technicians, as they were unable to later properly diagnose problems with the ac unit when the breaker was not functioning well. I called him again, but he refused to rectify the issue or stand behind his work. So 1 star for a bad combination - aggressive on charging fees, but failing to stand behind his work. read more

Nice and reliable guy but... it took two visits, 5 hours of work in total and a $900 bill... to find one outdoor electrical outlet that was rusted and creating a short. What was more disappointing is that the same outlet creating the problem was apparently tested during the first visit but deemed in good working order (not sure how that happened). When at the end of the second visit we discovered by luck where the problem was coming from (we heard a pop in the faulty outlet while testing something else) I pointed out that the issue should/could have been identified the first time around if tested properly and as a result I politely asked for a break; my request received no consideration - "my time is my time" I was told. I respect that. But so here it is: 2 stars and I am tempted to add "my opinion is my opinion" so be it. read more

I had no power in my bedroom or office, and thanks to the work of other shoddy electricians I also had no power in my kitchen and bathroom. All hope seemed lost and I was cooking in 95° weather and no power anywhere going to my AC. These guys showed up after 1 hour of calling them on a Saturday afternoon, correctly identified which fuse was blown, and restored the partial power to my kitchen and bathroom. He also gave me insight into why the other rooms didn't have power - a former tenant had installed a ceiling light and fan and wired it all wrong.
