This isn't a high end or high tech salon, but it gets the job done, and is great for those on a budget who don't want to end up with some weird infection or bad wax job. Being able to book online is such a life saver. I originally booked a blowout, but my stylist looked at my hair and decided that since it was just washed the night before, it'd be better to not re-wash & just style & pivoted the entire appointment. MAJOR points for that one because my hair never holds the style. The shop vibe is so friendly & you can tell that everyone there is actually enjoying their work - even super early on a Saturday morning & I feel like that says a lot. My hair was beautiful, the service was super fast, AND it held through a night of sweaty wedding dancing outside. Will for sure come here next time I need event hair done.

So my stylist was very nice and spent time talking to me about the cut and style I wanted. The cut itself was fine. I wanted a trim and that's what I got. I think if we left it at that, this would have been a 4-5 star experience. HOWEVER, the brow wax would be 0 stars! It wasn't very painful, which was good. But it was completely uneven! I asked for a slight arch, and there was none. Half my right brow is MISSING. It looks like I decided to shave one side of my brow off! I had to go out to buy a brow pencil to fill it in before a dinner party that evening! I was horrified! Moral of the story - salon is perfectly fine for haircut and styles, but don't let them do your brows!

I've never gotten my hair cut from any salon that wasn't in Chicago, but I recently moved to the…read moresuburbs, and didn't want to drive far to a salon. I chose to get my hair done here because I bought a Groupon, and have never gone to a salon in Vernon Hills, so I figured I'd start here. I'm not going to lie, I checked out the Yelp reviews before booking my appointment, and when the receptionist told me I was going to have Char as my first stylist, I was nervous, because she doesn't have consistent review scores on here. Regardless, I kept my appointment, and crossed my fingers. I was nervous over nothing! CHAR WAS EXCELLENT!!! She gave me a legitimate hair consultation (not just those 30 second chats, while I'm in my chair, as she brushes my hair). Char actually sat with me at the waiting area, and then we discussed about what I wanted and did NOT want (which is extremely important to mention to any stylist) done to my hair. She payed so much attention to the little details I was telling her about, which most stylist ignore. My hair turned out better than I expected. My hair looked great when I left the salon, and even after I washed and dried it myself at home. I'm really picky when it comes to my hair, and I'm not afraid to give 1 star, but Char and Salon G really deserve 5 stars. Highly, highly recommend it!!
