When I first walked in, I greeted the man whom I knew to be the owner with a smile and wave and he just looked at me. I thought that maybe maybe it was because I was a couple minutes late or that he didn't really know me, so I kind of brushed it off. But as I was greeting my friend who was already there and a nail tech whom I've seen before, he just kept pressing for me to sit down. No greeting, no nothing. I thought "OK we're getting down to business." He took a look at the nails I had gotten done last time at this very exact nail salon, saw that I was missing one nail on my pointer finger, looked at the butterfly wing designs I had, and proceeded to tell me that "sorry they could not fill this design here." I was stunned for a second because I had not even told him what I wanted done, or had been asked what I came in for. I said "that's OK, I'll be getting a new design anyway." And then I said also told him I got this design done here. He did not acknowledge that, but proceeded to then just start polishing off my nail design. He then asked if I wanted it filled or dipped, and honestly, I did not know the difference and I felt too rushed to ask for it to be explained. So I just said yes to whatever he was suggesting. And then his wife came over who is also the owner and started talking to him in Vietnamese. She was very calm and greeted me kindly. He asked me what designs I wanted and I pulled up the designs I had pre-selected on my phone. He then said no we cannot do those designs because they are for long nails and your nails are going to be short. He had asked me what length I wanted previous and I did tell him short. So he just kept telling me no to all the designs I wanted and I thought OK, I guess we can't work this out. I didn't care enough to put up a fight so I just said I would do a different color with sparkles. He then was like OK pick out your color. Absolutely no empathy or trying to work with what I had suggested. His wife then spoke to him in more Vietnamese, and he proceeded to say English in a very LOUD and WHINY voice that "no it's because she wants them too short." I can only presume that she was discussing why the design wasn't going to be happening. And after he filed off my nails super quickly so much so that some of it hurt due to the friction and the heat, he then got up, stormed off, and left the building completely. She then took over and was extremely polite. Worked with me to help decide on a design I would want and then proceeded to freehand and mix a design to my satisfaction. It was a very lovely experience with her and the other nail tech who was working on my friend. I just cannot get over the fact that this was my second experience at this place and he treated me as if I was a throwaway customer. I looked over at my friend multiple times regarding the way he was talking to me and being so dismissive. I will not be frequenting this establishment again, and can only hope that those after me continue to receive amazing service by the lovely ladies there. I just don't think I could walk in there again, see him, and be happy to be there. :(

For reference, I always get a dip manicure and gel pedicure. Here is what I like: - I make an appointment (usually 1-3 days ahead of time). I show up and they start working on my nails right away. No waiting. - They offer complimentary beverage service. - They have an INCREDIBLE selection of colors to choose from. - My nails always look fire and always hold up very well. - The nail techs always get my nails done in a timely fashion. If I am getting both services done, I am usually out of there in 1.5-2 hours. If I am getting one service done, it's usually about 45 minutes.   The only thing that I wish they could do is work on my fingers and toes at the same time. I'm all about efficiency and as much as I would love to just unwind and sit in the nail salon for hours at a time, the reality is I usually need to get in and out of there as quickly as possible. Other than that, this place is great. I cannot recommend Tipsy Nails enough! Definitely the best nail salon I've been to in the Des Moines metro.
