I was given a gift certificate and realized it was expired for only a week and they didn't allow me to use it. I can see if it was 6 months over, but only one week!!! People do forget, especially if it's not a service you use frequently. Poor customer service. read more

We had appointments for 2 pedicures and 3 manicures at the same time. The two pedis were seated and water prepared. One pedicure was started when they told the other she would need to wait because a customer who had the same time appointment and came in after us would need to go first! Meanwhile the three manicures sat out in the wsit area. At 20 minutes past appointment time one manicure was started and the second pedicure began. The first pedicure was finished within 15 minutes because there were rushing to get to the manicures!! At one hour past appointment time the last manicure still sat in the waiting area! This is such a poorly managed salon that no one should ever come here! read more

This is not my first choice of nail salons in Hilo, but I have only been to two. Some things I found concerning were: 1. They didn't put a plastic bag around the water tubs, you soak your feet in. 2. While the clippers and metal nail appliances were all in protective wrap when they started, I got the impression they reused the emery board and nail buff. The guy put them right back in the drawer after using them on me. 3. The quality of the manicure/pedicure seemed poor. By that, my toe nails which get black sand in them from the beach, still had black sand in them following the pedicure. The nail polish was just one coat and poorly done, and they didn't put anything between my toes before polishing them. All and all, not the best. Went in last week for mani pedi, no one was friendly n didn't "understand" what you were saying but sparked a conversation with another customer n understood her completely fine! Mani pedi was crap the guy didn't even trim my toes where ingrown grow into. Nail color selection is crap. AND on top of that pedi I ended up getting an INFECTION on my right big toe!!! I referred a friend to Nail Tech and was horrified to hear and see the experience she had. I'm sorry that I referred her. She asked for a challis removal and instead ended up with cut up toes. On top of that, her nails were cut crooked, left not groomed, and the design she asked for was not even. Very sloppy work. Very disappointed. I'm hesitant to get my nails done here again. read more

My mother and I always make at least one or two stops in during the holidays here while I am home. She's been coming here for years and we have never had to wait more than five minutes to be seen. You get a quality massage with manis and pedis, everything is exceptionally clean and comfortable, and they have a much wider array of gel colors than the other salons and spas we've tried. The salon is run by a family that is friendly, proficient and efficient. Small quality businesses like Nail Tech are definitely worth patronizing. read more

I paid for a deluxe pedicure and I'm not sure what I got! The girl didn't do much of anything but talk to a couple of the workers the whole time. She didn't have to cut my nails, just file and clean them. She took about 35 minutes to do a "DELUXE " pedi and I was very dissatisfied to say the least! She didn't even paint them well. She scrubbed my heels for a total of 1 minute. I'll never go back here. read more

This place is very good at what they do, except for when they're busy. My friend and I have always gone here, and I have one main piece of advice... do not go on a busy day if you can help it. My wax was very rushed, leaving behind many stray hairs and causing me to have to shave just a few days later. I will probably not be getting my legs waxed here anymore; not if I'm jyst gonna have to shave anyways. And if they're busy, come back to do your nails. It will look much better. I went in at the end of a busy day for them, and ended up with crooked nails. It is a subtle crookedness, but enough for me to notice. I have had excellent work from them before, so I know it is just because they were busy. I would've preferred to come back another day if I had known that's how it would've ended up. Also, I went with a friend to do pedicures. The guy she had gave her an amazing, jaw dropping foot and calf massage, because she ordered a deluxe. I went ahead and ordered the same thing, and did not get anywhere near as good service. Needless to say my person did not get a tip. Keep in mind, the service varies depending who you get. One woman cut my nail, making me bleed. I would say the best nail technicians in the place are the men. Definitely try to get one if you go. Still one of the best salons in town. read more

The nail work is decent but the customer service is not that great. I get an unwelcoming vibe every time I go. Also the last time I went in to get my gel color changed, the woman was filing off the old gel color and she cut up my fingers so bad. They were raw and hurt every time I washed my hands. My sister and I made an appointment to go and get our nails done. We arrive there and there are only 2 ladies working which was fine. One worker took my sister to her work station. A few minutes later the worker walked out the door and my sister was just sitting there waiting. The worker came back with what I assume was a regular customer. She tells my sister to move over and has this other customer sit where my sister was and began working on her nails. Me and my sister were so annoyed we walked out. Mimi is VERY kind and sparks up a good conversation so it's not just an awkward silence between the two of you. Her work is pretty decent. However, they don't last long at all and the coat of gel she paints on is only a layer! Very thin and you can see through the the color which shouldn't happen with gel. I had to go back to repair my broken nail. Then they broke again. But all in all not bad. read more

HORRIBLE! If I could put zero stars I would! Went to get a full set and the lady literally made my nails look like deformed spongebob's. I asked for SQUARE shape. She barely filed my nails & I didn't see her use the normal 'tools' I usually see them using. She did an even worse job painting them with polish, air bubbles through out all my nails! I even asked her when I noticed her finishing up "umm, should I come back tomorrow to fix this?" And she totally ignored what I said. She charged me $56 for a piece of shit job! I WAS PISSED! I called later & spoke with the owner, Mimi, and she said she would fix it tomorrow. WENT BACK to fix my nails, with the OWNER, and she didn't even make my nails look presentable!!! I only go here because Mimi is really good with fixing my very beat up nails. I do admit the place is quite dirty so I have never gotten a pedi or any other services other than a fill and polish. I support them but with over 4 employees working at a time I would think they could dust a bit and organize maybe even get an air purifier. I would not recommend seeing the man there. I went in for a color change (gel) n he proceeded to sand it off including my real nails! Now my real nails are weak and they bend in whatever I do! Plus the nail color I chose didn't have any left in the bottle and he put acetone in it to thin it out and now I have 3 different shades of red on my now weak nails! Never again! Mind you, I don't have fake nails or tips! Their my real nails and now their breaking, splitting and ripping half way down! Don't ever see the guy there!
