The further you go from Manhattan, the less it seems you have to pay to get your nails done, which sounds like an age old adage but doesn't apply to as many categories as you'd expect, though nail salons fall squarely and neatly under this rule. Luckily Bensonhurst is a neighborhood I frequent often and where you're spoiled for choice when it comes to nail salons, and Nail Lab seemed to be one of the best for the specific powder nail design I was looking to get. It was easy to make an appointment over the phone and they texted me to confirm the appointment, although they did ask on the day of if I would please come in an hour or two earlier because they are booked up later in the day, when I had my scheduled appointment. This already left me with the impression that they overbooked, and I was right. I showed up at my original scheduled appointment time and waited about half an hour to get to stage 1, for a simple pedicure. There are more technicians available to do pedicures than there are to do manicures, especially for specific nail designs like I was requesting, and the two manicurists were occupied. Fortunately as they were finishing up my pedicure they multitasked and began to file my nails into my desired shape to prep for the manicurist. My technician was a true artist and took her time getting the nail design based on the photo I provided just right, and even improvised for some designs that would suit my nail size and shape better. I was really pleased with the outcome and the perfectionism coming from my technician. The cost was $75 + tip, and my SNS polish lasted at least 3 weeks-- nearly a month even, and for a great price. read more

Be prepared to wait!!! I've been coming to Nail Lab for sns on natural nails for about 4 months now. Shanni and Jessica are both great at taking care of your nails and have an eye for beautiful nail art, if that's what you like. They offers palettes of different embellishment and can bring your design vision to life. My natural nails have also grown so long that they look like I have tips on. My only complaint really is that it doesn't matter if you make an appointment, because they are almost never running on schedule. I'm usually soaking in acetone for removal anywhere from 30 to 60minutes before anyone gets started on me... I often make the trek out to Nail Lab which is further than my more local nail salons for their accuracy in matching the nail designs that I show them. Their store is rather small, so wait times can go up to 30-45 minutes despite having an appointment - so schedule accordingly. A no frills nail salon, that delivers on designs without breaking the bank. Wait time can be lengthy, but staff are pretty steady with their hands. I was really happy when leaving Nail Lab but that changed when I got home and took a closer look at my nails. It was my first time doing sns nails, so I didn't get tips to see how "heavy" it feels first. My nails aren't as healthy compared to average since I have eczema. I told the nail technician to not remove my cuticles completely due to that reason. She was very nice, explained the sns process and what I can do when I want to change the color and design. Unfortunately, she wasn't as precise, made the nails a bit too thick, and a bit rough making one of my fingers bleed. My other finger was about to bleed too, but she noticed in time and filed at a different angle. Aside from the bleeding, the side of one finger does not have color, left ring finger is slightly sharper than the rest (can't file myself since this is sns), and the lil hoop design on my left ring finger is a lot bumpier than my right. All factors considered, I would likely give this place another try and ask for Jessica or Shanni. The grey nail pic is from their Instagram and the picture I showed them. Instead of grey I opted for a very light purple that looks closer to pink when applied. I got sns with two nail designs, which was a total of $55 ($35 sns $20 design). read more

I found this nail salon on (suprise) Yelp. And i was so in love with all the lovely pictures of the nail art and mani's. So i took myself all the way from 3rd and 70th in Bay ridge to 15th and whatever street it is in Bensonhurst, to get a powder mani and pedi from this salon. On the outside it looks very chic, but once i walked inside i was not expecting what i saw. Its very cramped and tiny and outdated and just bleh. Anyways, so i go in and i sit down and i tell the lady who is doing my pedi what color im looking for and she tells me to go look. So i go look. I can't find it and im unsure whether im overlooking it or something, because not all the colors have the name stickers still stuck on. So i go back and ask her if she can recommend something similar and she tells me to go back and look... To be fair her English was not the BEST, however if i come to a salon and iam looking for something in particular, i would appreciate some guidance. Pedi was spot on point, getting a massage on the massage chai while waiting for my pedi was great. SNS was a great first experience for me and I still rub my nails everyday because of how soft my nails are. It was probably the most I've paid for my nails but they are definitely worth it. I am definitely coming back for special occasion nails. The only issue that I had with nail lab was that they were pretty rough, especially when it came to cutting cuticles. They don't soak your cuticles like most places which is fine, but my nail lady was literally ripping at my cuticles. No matter the tech, the end result is always amazing. The polish is shiny and my hands are soft. My friend and I decided to get our nails done the morning of. We went around 1 PM, there were a bit of wait but it was not terrible considering it was a Saturday (next time I'll definitely call first)! For the two of us, we were there for about 2ish hours. First, if you love precise nail designs, Nail Lab is a good nail salon in Brooklyn, they are able to do some complicated Asian style nail designs which I was very satisfied. Yet, I am giving a two-star because their pricing system. Even when I send them a picture of a nail design, they weren't be able to quote me an exact price, they will say "around $50" and ended up being $60. When they said $5 for each finger with design, I only had 4 fingers out of 10 that have designs, rest of the 6 fingers are plain color, they still charged me $60. I have a friend who did 10 fingers design there with stickers and all, they charged her only $58, then I screenshot my friend's nails and ask for the price they quoted me $75+. Even though I love their job, I am extremely disappointed with how they put price tags on people. Heart-brokenly, I am giving up on this place. read more

I found this place on yelp and saw that it had great reviews so I called in to ask if they were available for 2. They said a time so my friend and I went in earlier than the specified time but still waited more than 45 mins past the specified time. I understand that they were busy so it's fine I wanted French acrylics and the lady said okay so I trusted that she knew what she was doing. Almost 5 mins into it I sensed that things weren't going right. This lady KEPT hurting me and didn't even apologize. She eventually made me bleed but still didn't say anything. I didn't want to make a scene so I didn't say anything but my nails were not even, some of them were crooked and some were too thick. I also knew she had trouble because normally when I get acrylics without nail polish it would take around 30 mins but she took way past an hour. Also I wanted a thick French but she proceeded to put a thin line so I showed her a pic and she said okay but then the thickness was uneven between all my nails and at that point I was so fed up but some other lady came to finish my nails but they still didn't look as nice as I would like and were still kinda messed up, considering I paid $45+tips ($35 acrylic+$10 French) and yes I still tipped her even tho she did a terrible job. I see that the other ladies do a good job so if u were to ever come don't get the lady by the door on the left. I have gotten gel and SNS powder nails done here. Design-wise, the technicians are always spot on! In terms of longevity, I've averaged about a month and a bit over. Like other yelpers have mentioned, the only downside is that the wait times can be pretty long even if you have an appointment.
