I have been going to this salon for 11 years, and for most of that time, I had nothing but amazing…read moreexperiences. Under the previous owners, Laura and Danny, the salon felt welcoming and personal. Over the years, we got to know them and many of the people who worked there, and we brought the business a great deal of repeat business. Unfortunately, since they retired and sold the business to Lux SF2, my experiences have changed dramatically. My longtime technician is still wonderful, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and customer service have gone downhill. The manager who now runs the salon consistently comes across as angry and unwelcoming. There is rarely a hello or any effort to make customers feel welcome, and it seems that the employees are uncomfortable around her. There is also another employee who has displayed the same type of behavior toward customers. The problems really came to a head when my partner was accidentally charged double for a service. He noticed the overcharge immediately and was told that it would be corrected and refunded within a day or so. It wasn't. After three phone calls over the course of 10 days, the money still had not been refunded. We ultimately let the matter go because he returned to the salon and received the pedicure he had already paid for. Instead of simply resolving the issue professionally, the manager became angry and raised her voice at my partner, insisting that the money had already been refunded when it had not. My partner eventually contacted the manager at their sister salon on Hayes Street to explain what had happened. Apparently, that made the situation even worse, because the manager then confronted him and became even more upset with him in the salon. Then came my experience last night. I had a punch card that had been started under the previous ownership. I had one punch remaining for a complimentary manicure. This card had already been punched by the current salon seven times out of ten, so they clearly had been honoring it. After receiving my manicure, I presented the card and was suddenly told that I had to pay an additional $5 because it was an "old" card from the previous owner. When I questioned this, I was told that they don't honor the old cards--even though they have continued punching mine and accepting it as valid. If the salon no longer intends to honor a loyalty program, that should have been clearly communicated to customers before they continued accepting and stamping those cards. The situation became even more uncomfortable when the male employee raised his voice at me in front of other customers and began bringing up my partner's refund issue from a month and a half earlier. I explained that the matter had already been dealt with, but he continued to argue with me and speak to me disrespectfully. Meanwhile, the manager, who was present and is supposedly running the salon, never stepped in to de-escalate the situation or address the behavior. I eventually left and went to the main Lux SF location up the street to speak with management. The manager there was apologetic, listened to what happened, and treated me with the professionalism and courtesy I would have expected from the salon in the first place. There are also growing concerns about cleanliness and sanitation that I have noticed during my recent visits. The chairs and workstations appear to have a layer of nail dust on them, and sanitizing the stations does not seem to be the priority it once was. I have also observed pedicure stations not being sprayed with what appeared to be bleach/disinfectant after each use. Given the nature of the services being provided, this is particularly concerning to me. I plan to contact the appropriate health department to report what I have observed and ask them to determine whether the salon is following the required sanitation procedures. It is incredibly disappointing to see a place that we supported for so many years change this much. Customers should not feel like they are walking into an environment where employees are angry, customers are spoken to disrespectfully, charges are inconsistent, or legitimate concerns are met with confrontation. A business cannot build a lasting customer base by treating people this way. In my opinion, if the current management continues to create an atmosphere of anger, disrespect, and distrust--and if customers feel they are being overcharged or treated unfairly whenever there is an opportunity to do so--the business will eventually lose the loyal customers who helped sustain it for years. I genuinely hope Lux SF2 takes these concerns seriously. There is still an opportunity to turn things around, but that starts with treating customers and employees with basic respect, being transparent about pricing and loyalty programs, properly addressing billing issues, and making cleanliness and sanitation a priority again.

Even though they take walk-ins, I called on Tuesday 9/22 and made an appointment for 11 am the following day. I was greeted by Gwen, who immediately pegged me as a guy who probably just wanted his nails clipped and nothing else. She walked me over to a wall display and asked me to choose a favorite nail color. It took me a few seconds to realize she was joking. (Good icebreaker, Gwen!) Anyway, the pedicure was not only thorough but absolutely painless. Granted, it took about 15 minutes longer than what I was used to, but I consider that a very reasonable tradeoff for a job done with the precision of a jeweler or a watchmaker. Once we were done, Gwen walked me to a lady at a desk at the back of the shop. That made it easy for me to hand the desk lady the pedicure fee and hand Gwen the tip at about the same time. I decided to wait a few days before posting my review, just to make sure there was no residual pain or swelling near the problem toe. That milestone has been cleared, and it looks like I now have a new regular pedicurist to see somewhere around November 11. Thanks, Gwen. Great job!

My nails take forever to dry, so when I smudged two of them trying to get my wallet, she fixed them right away. The couple of times I've been here, I've noticed that the vibes are pretty quiet. I remember falling asleep the first time I had my nails done here. If I was in one of the recliner seats at this most recent visit, I totally would have knocked out. At my first visit years ago, I remembered the technician putting this serum on my nails after the top coat that made it dry faster. She actually accidentally used it twice. I think that's why my nails lasted really long. However, the visits after that I noticed that they ended with just the top coat. I asked about it, but I don't think I was clear because I didn't get an answer. And btw, they now use tiny fans to dry the polish as opposed to that serum. But whatever serum they had before worked wonders and I wish they still did that. I just woke up from a nap and I must've put my hands underneath my head as I'm a side sleeper... there are imprints of my hair on my nails. It's not noticeable from afar but I was surprised to see it since the polish is dry. I'm not hopeful about how long the polish is going to last considering this. I think this is third or fourth time here and nothing is going to compare my first experience at this point. I'll probably come back whenever I need my nails done but I'm open to exploring other salons at this point.

I walked into Nailit with high hopes, their Instagram was full of stunning nail art and flawless manicures. What a mistake! I was so disappointed with my recent experience there. The pictures online looked amazing, but the reality was a far cry from what they advertised. It turns out I was assigned to a trainee who clearly lacked experience, which wouldn't have been an issue if they had told me upfront. My nails are uneven, the polish is messy, and overall, it looks like a child did it. The trainee struggled to apply the gel polish evenly, leaving streaks and bubbles on almost every nail. When I pointed it out, they tried to fix it, but it only made matters worse. The shape of my nails is all over the place; some are square, some are round, and they're all different lengths. Honestly, I could have done a better job myself. To add insult to injury, the salon itself was dirty. There was dust on the surfaces, and the tools didn't look properly sanitized. I felt uncomfortable the entire time I was there. The whole experience was a complete waste of time and money. I left feeling frustrated and ripped off. I definitely won't be going back, and I strongly advise you to avoid this place. Don't be fooled by the photos - the quality here is subpar, the hygiene is questionable, and the customer service is non-existent. I had an excellent experience at Nail It and was genuinely impressed from start to finish. I received a gel manicure from Irina, the founder, and her attention to detail and professionalism were impressive. She took her time, made sure every step was done properly, and the final result looked flawless--clean, precise, and exactly what I wanted. This was my first gel manicure and I got it as part of a trip out of the country where I knew I would want long-lasting results. I was not disappointed -- What stood out most was the longevity and durability of the gel manicure I received. I booked the Russian dry manicure/pedicure because after one too many wet pedicure lamp burns at other places, I was done with soaking and singed nail beds; this is precision work that feels hypoallergenic and actually gentle. My nails looked polished and natural but lasted way longer than a typical salon job -- zero burning, zero soaking, just careful, exact technique. She ensured that the curve of each nail was perfect and natural looking. First, I asked Amy for some milky white nails and this was my FIRST russian mani. She started you know cleaning my nails and comparing her work to Lina's, Amy did an awful job at cleaning my nails and preparing them. After cleaning my nails, Amy started applying the MILKY WHITE polish until one of the workers told her no, she had to apply the nude polish at the bottom first. She was prepping my nail and she COULD NOT get the nail to stay and my pinky was literally sore she was on her 4th try. At this point I felt UNCOMFORTABLE and asked her to call the other woman and I removed my hands from the counter. I just did not feel she knew was she as doing. She was STRUGGLING and was not flipping my nail to make sure an even distribution. The other lady came and told me she will give me them for free and I was so confused. I told her paying was not a problem ever, but I wanted a good job and I felt that Amy did not know what she as doing and she needed help. When she was painting the nails I had to ask her to put the polish to the base of the nail and had to remind her about cuticle oil. I was told the nails would be free but then I just got a $20 discount. I am not the type of customer to make a scene or be rude and I did not bring this up but any other customer would definitely would have brought up that free nails were promised not a $20 discount. I would not book with Amy if you want the price of an "expert" with the experience of a rookie. In the end the nails did look good BUT the experience and time it took was so insane. I stayed a little past closing it just took forever.

He assured me the outcome would be about 80% similar to the picture, since they wouldn't have the exact colors. The final price ended up being $135 plus tip, and I got an appointment the same day I called. It's very busy so make sure you get an appointment! My nails take forever to dry, so when I smudged two of them trying to get my wallet, she fixed them right away. The couple of times I've been here, I've noticed that the vibes are pretty quiet. I remember falling asleep the first time I had my nails done here. If I was in one of the recliner seats at this most recent visit, I totally would have knocked out. At my first visit years ago, I remembered the technician putting this serum on my nails after the top coat that made it dry faster. She actually accidentally used it twice. I think that's why my nails lasted really long. However, the visits after that I noticed that they ended with just the top coat. I asked about it, but I don't think I was clear because I didn't get an answer. And btw, they now use tiny fans to dry the polish as opposed to that serum. But whatever serum they had before worked wonders and I wish they still did that. I just woke up from a nap and I must've put my hands underneath my head as I'm a side sleeper... there are imprints of my hair on my nails. It's not noticeable from afar but I was surprised to see it since the polish is dry. I'm not hopeful about how long the polish is going to last considering this. I think this is third or fourth time here and nothing is going to compare my first experience at this point. I'll probably come back whenever I need my nails done but I'm open to exploring other salons at this point.

After some search engine trial-and-error, I finally got a Google page that listed three salons that offered a simple pedicure at a reasonable rate. The closest of these was Mani-Pedi Spa. Even though they take walk-ins, I called on Tuesday 9/22 and made an appointment for 11 am the following day. I was greeted by Gwen, who immediately pegged me as a guy who probably just wanted his nails clipped and nothing else. She walked me over to a wall display and asked me to choose a favorite nail color. It took me a few seconds to realize she was joking. (Good icebreaker, Gwen!) Anyway, the pedicure was not only thorough but absolutely painless. Granted, it took about 15 minutes longer than what I was used to, but I consider that a very reasonable tradeoff for a job done with the precision of a jeweler or a watchmaker. Once we were done, Gwen walked me to a lady at a desk at the back of the shop. That made it easy for me to hand the desk lady the pedicure fee and hand Gwen the tip at about the same time. I decided to wait a few days before posting my review, just to make sure there was no residual pain or swelling near the problem toe. That milestone has been cleared, and it looks like I now have a new regular pedicurist to see somewhere around November 11. Thanks, Gwen. Great job!
