Nail It (San Francisco) is exactly the little downtown oasis I didn't know I needed after a long day at work. I booked the Russian dry manicure/pedicure because after one too many wet pedicure lamp burns at other places, I was done with soaking and singed nail beds; this is precision work that feels hypoallergenic and actually gentle. My nails looked polished and natural but lasted way longer than a typical salon job -- zero burning, zero soaking, just careful, exact technique. They also offer waxing and sugaring (I'm planning to try the sugaring for a light clean‑up on my hands/wrists next visit). My first time here! I was a little nervous reading some of the reviews, but honestly I had a really great experience! Parking in FiDi/SoMA is always tough so it is what it is from that standpoint. They have lots of signage out front so it was pretty easy to find! I got a pedicure with design and I'm so happy! Although I do always wish that salons had more of the cat eye/glitter polishes, they had a lot of really nice options for a gel pedicure. My nail tech took her time, asked me what I wanted, and in the middle of her working - I paused her and asked her for the design and she's like no problem! They didn't just use a run of the mill sticker, she hand painted it herself and I absolutely love how jt came out! Booking was also super easy since they use Square appointments. Nailit was my most favorite Russian Nail salon but something changed the past two months. I'm not sure what happened but from bathrooms overflowing... and the front desk man saying, "please here's the chiptole code... use their bathroom...." To their new nail techs who are not trained, and this high volume of foot traffic of people who aren't customers coming in and out of the salon made me feel a bit weird I was consistent for many months and noticed that the quality of their service significantly dropped. My nails were cracking breaking and they started to overcharge me for incomplete services. Today, I decided to cut my service short bc I was so uncomfortable with this new nail tech. She does not know how to use the nail drill and starts at this insanely high setting. So I told her I had to leave, I didn't feel comfortable with her doing my nails. If you look at the state of how she took off my gel, pretty obvious that she's VERY JUNIOR and not well trained. No one I've gone to drills into nails this way. She then charges me for a color service. My girlfriends have all transitioned to trying Lucky Me SF. A new salon in SF. read more

Best manicure of my life. It takes forever an is $$$$$$$$$$$$$ but it lasts longer than your usual mani because of how close to the cuticle they get, so it's worth it. 1) When I was seated, the manicurist didn't sanitize the area from when her last client sat. New tools were used, but old tools from her past client weren't removed. Hand resting station wasn't wiped down, but I suppose that's what skin is for- skin is a barrier to protect from public spaces 2) Manicurist was on her phone four times during the appointment, didn't remove her gloves either when touching her phone and working on my hands. Kept sighing after each time reviewing text messages. 3) Pinky was cut and started bleeding and manicurist kept sighing the entire time about it. I was the one who was cut and I'm not even making a big stink. I wasn't going to leave a review but the pinky is still sore and hurts a week later. I've been washing my hands vigorously and placing alcohol on it to ensure there's no infection. 4) Told her I found out about NailIt through Instagram and I had a 10% off for first appointment. She didn't log the discount and claim she did. I just tipped 10% instead of 20% cus at that point I was done with the entire interaction People who have jobs that involve clients need to learn bedside manners! Same goes for doctors, police officers who interact with the public. Classy, long-lasting, and flawless! I got my nails done at Nail It for a trip to Key West in June 2025, again to just wear locally, and then again for a wedding in August. They looked perfect every time. They lasted over two months without chipping and stayed fresh and gorgeous the entire time. Highly recommend! I made a same-day reservation for a gel removal on a weekday afternoon because my old nails (hard gel from Korea) were getting too long. I was seated right on time and the technician got straight to work! She was efficient and did a great job of removing all the gel, including the crystals & 3D gel that is more difficult to remove. She also shortened the length for me and shaped them (though I did do a bit of clean-up at home just to get all the lengths 100% even). Though I can't attest to their gel manicure services, the technician was great and the studio is cute & clean! I had extensions and acrylic on my nails. Made an appointment to remove it at 6pm today. Walk in and tell the person I have an appointment she goes "no, sorry." Excuse me? After showing the text proof of my appointment she has me wait 15 mins. Ok, fine. Then she proceeds to use a nail buff to shave my nails down. It's painful so I tell her my usual spot uses a nail file and acetone to remove them and doesn't shave the nails down as it can damage my real nails. She proceeds to tell me no this is the only way and I walk out with the results pictured below. My nails are damaged and they look awful. I don't understand how this establishment is in business. I'm at a loss for words that I had to even pay for this service. Also, the nail tech didn't seem to know how to file nails. read more

My first two russian manicures were done by Anna and she was just amazing!! Her attention to detail and care was incredible and the retention lasted over 2 weeks. My most recent manicure was done with someone else and I wanted to give them a benefit of doubt. Anna was assigned someone else that day and so when I had my nails done by another woman- she unfortunately did not do a good job :( she cut my cuticles too short and it bled, paint job was not neat and also little sloppy at the sides. I had a 3pm appointment but wasn't seen until 3:30, even after I let them know I had to leave by 4:30 for a work meeting. They said that wouldn't be enough time, so I asked to just fix one broken nail instead. I chose a color close to what I had, but one of the techs picked a much brighter red and insisted it would match. It didn't like at all. Even after four coats, it looked completely off. I even brought over a shade closer to my original color, but they didn't use it until I pushed again. By that point, I was frustrated and wanted get out of there. Not once did anyone acknowledge I had an appt or the fact that they saw me so late. I wasn't charged for the one nail, which was nice, but not worth taking over an hour out of my work day. It's frustrating because I took time out of a packed workday to come all the way downtown, and I couldn't even get one nail fixed properly. Like any other salon, it really matters who the tech is. I got assigned a junior tech, and the kind of detail work you expect out of a Russian manicure wasn't there. I walked out and saw my nails in the light light and knew that I'd need to do some revision work when I got home. Bummer for the price.
