While I was getting a pedicure, a mother came in with her young daughter to get a manicure and pedicure. The little girl was white. The owner began talking about how beautiful the little girl was. Then the conversation changed, and she said that when "other kids" come in, they are loud and disruptive. My friend responded that all children can be loud sometimes. The owner then said, "No, only Black kids," and went on to say they are "ghetto" and that she tells her employees to work on them quickly and get them out of the salon because they disturb her wealthy clients. I am Puerto Rican, and my husband is Black. My family is multicultural. Hearing the owner make those comments left me shocked and speechless. I froze and decided to leave because I couldn't believe what I had just heard. I had planned to return and confront the owner, but I had to travel the following day and wasn't able to. I will never return to Chic Nails and Spa. If you are Black, Hispanic, or anyone who believes every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, I encourage you to consider spending your money elsewhere. In my experience, no business that expresses racist views deserves the support of the community.

When i asked her about that she said the technician was very rough and hurt her. I asked her if she spoke up and she said she was scared to. That's some of her being 15 I'm sure (& I was at another table) but it's also important for the artist to recognize if a client may be younger or shy and make sure they're getting a quality experience and what they want / have asked for.
