Yes there are tourists, but Ennistymon is largely overlooked by the hoards of people heading for the Cliffs of Moher. It's a place for locals, craic and music. Just spent a rainy, sunny, hailing, windy,balmy afternoon with the finest bartender (Joan) and delicious drinks to warm the soul after the winds of the cliffs nearly swept us off to sea. I first visited in 1994, and though there have been several owners since, it remains a magical place. By the way, Joan got kicked out of her Facebook account, but is wishing all her American friends a very happy Thanksgiving!

The propritor, Mr. Stack, was a genial man who seemed to know know his customers and there was great banter and fun, some of which went above me as I did not understand the accents or local nuances. Mr. Stack had a genuine welcome for me and my wife and I thought he was the most courteous landlord I met during my Irish trip. This was a no frills, traditional pub and the 'ladies' was in the private section of the house-- ie, the family bathroom! The Guinness was the best we had in Ireland, and it was the cheapest. Last year when we visited Ireland, we stopped in Ennistymon. We were dismayed to discover the pub is now a shop and that Mr. Stack had passed away.
