I stopped at this bar back in 1999 and had a wonderful evening. It was market day and the bar patrons were mostly farmers and local people. The propritor, Mr. Stack, was a genial man who seemed to know know his customers and there was great banter and fun, some of which went above me as I did not understand the accents or local nuances. Mr. Stack had a genuine welcome for me and my wife and I thought he was the most courteous landlord I met during my Irish trip.
This was a no frills, traditional pub and the 'ladies' was in the private section of the house-- ie, the family bathroom! The Guinness was the best we had in Ireland, and it was the cheapest.
Last year when we visited Ireland, we stopped in Ennistymon. We were dismayed to discover the pub is now a shop and that Mr. Stack had passed away. read more
