This might be the most underrated franchise in the country. Every thing I've gotten from there has been delicious and above average in my opinion. The portions are fair. New spot. Think of this as middle eastern chipotle style place. You come in and pick a pita, a bowl, or a plate. The bowl can be a salad or not a salad. Pick your carb, add your protein, select toppings and check out. Only issue (minor) is that since this is a new place, we expected a greeting and just a little more explanation when we walked in. The board is a little overwhelming to digest when you walk in and they ask what you want. Would've been nicer if they said "welcome! Have you been here before?" ...And offer to walk a new customer through the process/menu. That being said, we figured it out. Just didn't really get to know what all of their offerings were. Naf Naf Grill opened pre-pandemic. We had seen it plenty of times but were huge fans of Blaze Pizza. Each time we walked by, we'd say, "We should really stop in!" Based on past reviews, I'm glad we hadn't. I'm also glad we hadn't read the reviews and am more delighted perhaps, they may have, are still in business and we finally decided to give them a try. We were NOT DISAPPOINTED! Naf Naf is more a fusion of Middle Eastern flavors and freshness with just a healthy feeling. While I cannot eat spicy foods, my partner was not disappointed with his Spicy Chicken Pita. Make no mistake, my Chicken Shawarma Bowl was loaded with a beautiful balance of delightful flavors, neither salty nor acidic, (as I imagined it might be) to upset my stomach. I had chosen a light cucumber yogurt dressing. The gentleman brought my dish out with a sample of garlic sauce, which he suggested might enhance the flavor of my bowl choices. I hesitantly acquiesced and soon found my eyeballs rolling to the top of my head. I was sold. My partner & I, loved the pita bread- he especially loved the extra kick of the spice level. He was completely satisfied with his portions and felt no need for additional food when we got home. Their lentil soup was just perfect and what the doctor called for on this cold evening. For my bowl, I chose a base mix of 1/2 couscous and rice; both cooked perfectly, adding hummus for an extra .50. The meat, cooked on a rotisserie over multiple hours was just right- still soft, not dry; seasoned just wonderfully, not at all salty. The purple cabbage added the perfect crunch. Selections of toppings were a feast and sauces, ranging from mild to spicy made it easy to please the taste buds. Finding hummus and great baba ghanoush together, is truly a hidden gem. Both were excellent. I'm already planning a charcuterie board for this weekend's gathering. Safe to say, with all I had, over 1/2 my bowl came home with a lid for tonight's dinner. They also had a Baklava which looked so tempting- but I honestly, could not fit another bite. Saving for this weekend! Ordering was easy. Quite like Chipotle's, which we do eat at a lot, however, I feel the prices were a little less and portions a bit better. Perhaps they have listened and that's a great thing. I found the staff quite helpful- their suggestions much appreciated and made all the difference in my experience, restaurant very clean. While in St. Louis on a recent trip, we came across a similar Middle Eastern restaurant (fine dining) and paid 4- 5 times the cost. We have gotten into a rut here in CMI and are so excited we finally stepped in. It you're a meat lover, vegetarian or even vegan- you'll find many ways to mix it up... don't be shy in asking for suggestions, but do yourselves a favor, whether it's been a while, or looking for a new, (healthy) option for yourself or your family, stop in and give them a try. They've survived the pandemic; they've outlived Blazed Pizza... let's not allow this one to slip away. The only way to ensure we have great options here is to support businesses who work to get it right. That they've done! Since their grand opening, I've been to this location at least 5 times, and I hate to say this... but their service has really gone downhill. The last time I went, there was a huge line of people and only one person doing the serving and ringing the cashier. At first, I thought that they may have been understaffed at that time, but I was surprised to see so many other staff members present and only one person handling the serving. I'm assuming they each have their roles and understand that they have to keep their roles, yet it may have been this server's first time working because she seemed very overwhelmed. She was only able to handle one order by order so I waited in line for a while as it moved slowly. Also, I was disappointed by how the pita was super salty. In the last review, I raved about how good their pitas were. This time around, it was hard and salty. Not what I expect from Naf Naf grill. I lived in the Middle East for several years and have not been able to find a lot of Middle Eastern cuisine restaurants in central IL that taste as good until I ate the falafel salad bowl from Naf Naf Grill! This new restaurant just opened up and it was really good. Their Covid safety was pass average standards and the restaurant itself was super clean. The design is so modern I love it, also the food is so good. The fries were fresh, had a different style to them, and not super oily like some restaurants. The falafels were so good along with the pita bread as well. This place is great for anyone looking for healthy yet delicious food to eat, and not to mention how inexpensive it was. The food was ok but the service was horrible. They close at 8 and we - along with the five other customers who walked in after us - arrived around 7:30. They were definitely more interested is us leaving than they were serving us. They kept yelling at us that if anyone in line wanted a falafel, they had to speak up because they were shutting down the fryer. The woman behind us asked if the chicken was halel and they stared at her like she had two heads. We all had to get our food to go because they had already wiped down tables and closed the seating area. They didn't put any sauces on our orders because you apparently have to ask but they didn't have time to offer. We ended up having to eat in our car. Later, we saw that they have tables in the back - but again they were in too much of a hurry to mention that and since the seating area was blocked off, you couldn't see them from inside. This place opened on Monday, May 3, 2021. I went there on May 8 and was happy with my meal. So I returned on Sunday, May 9 at 12:15 PM. Only to be shouted at as I walked in the door that they were all out of falafel and all out of pita bread. So it makes you wonder about the management that they could run out of two of their most fundamental items at 12:15 PM after they've been open for one hour and 15 minutes. When I asked if I could get something that they had instead of the pita bread, the manager explained to me that normally you get the pita bread "free" and therefore when they run out and you don't get pita bread you pay exactly the same amount for the meal. That was irritating enough, but watching their flatscreen TV tuned to the Fox "News" network was more than I could handle. Seriously, for a restaurant to take a political stand by running a network that supported an insurrection on the United States capital, is not a good business decision. In line with the rest of the reviews - the service here is absolutely HORRIBLE. We ordered bowls and the assembly that went into them from the staff was so horrendous they were inedible. We asked for a drizzle of tahini and she put so much on I was screaming "STOP STOP STOP" and by that time it was drowning in more tahini then I'd ever seen in my entire life haha. Same thing with the garlick sauce on the second bowl. It was hysterically bad. They do not follow health guidelines as one was making bread with her long hair just dangling close to the food. If the staff that we encountered today wasn't so bad at their jobs, I would be giving Naf Naf 5 stars. My husband I were so excited for a decent Mediterranean place to finally open up in the C-U area. So much so, that for the last week, we have eaten here four times. We absolutely love the food. The food is always warm. The schwarma is very flavorful and the falafels are always crispy! The sides are so delicious as well. The purple cabbage, hummus and baba ganoush are my favorites. The staff that worked during the weekdays was incredible. They knew their stuff, always made the order correctly, everything, even when they were overwhelmed with the amount of customers. The staff we encountered today, Saturday, was horrible. There were two girls and a guy. Jasmine, the one who checked us out, might as well not work there. She was beyond lazy. The other two employees were busy with the eight people line that had formed after me and she had already checked me out. All I was waiting for was my pita breads to be put in my bag so I could go. Instead of taking the maybe ten steps? to get the pita herself and complete my order, she told the other two employees that she needed pita. Those two were swarmed with customers (one lady who had never had Mediterranean food therefore the employee was describing the food to her). I mean, c'mon, she could've easily gotten the pita and put it in our bag but instead I just stood there waiting for two-three minutes until the other employees brought her the pita. I understand she was working the register but I was the only customer at the register and other days, the register worker has helped the other employees so this was just pure laziness. Sauce is so important in Mediterranean cuisine. Although the meat is very flavorful, you definitely need sauce for the falafels. I had asked Jasmine for garlic sauce THREE times only to get home (10 mins away) to NO SAUCE! My husband had to drive back to get the sauce because the food just isn't right without it. Jasmine literally is so inattentive to the customers. Don't work at a restaurant if you don't like people. She didn't greet any customers that walked in. When she finally handed me my food to go, she didn't even say thank you or smile or come again. I said thank you and she just looked away. She really has a crappy attitude. The weekday staff however is GREAT! As I said, there knowledgeable, they don't get stressed out by but lines, nothing is ever missing from your order. The young man who wears the shirt that says 'Baker' is their star employee. This man is handling complicated orders with long lines and greeting new customers just walking in. I just had a great dinner at Naf Naf. It was a wonderful surprise. We were driving around looking for something on the healthier side and decided to give this a try. We were greeted warmly upon entering, which is always a good sign. I chose a bowl with the basmati rice as my base then topped it with chicken schwarma, tomato salad, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, a marinated red cabbage, onions and a very tasty green (spicy) vegetable based sauce on top. They do a poor job of explaining the format for the different items ie. base bowl,toppings, pita and plate. Didn't know a pita comes w/bowl and plate orders. Falafel is spot on although I prefer it less coarse, it was very grainy. Ckn Shawarma had great smoky flavor, tender pieces. Some of the smaller end pieces were overcooked and dry. Pita, hummus, BabaGhanoush very good. The chopped salad and romaine was fresh-good. Purple cabbage and pickles are tasty. Their basmati rice just okay. The sauces are killer! S'khug and Harissa are spicy HOT with a rainbow of flavor. Tahini sauce good too. The amount of food for the price is good, quantity is adequate. They don't have online ordering up and no Tabbouleh.
