This might be the most underrated franchise in the country. Every thing I've gotten from there has been delicious and above average in my opinion. The portions are fair. If you tend to eat a lot (like I do), I recommend the plates vs the bowls. I've been a customer at other locations for years, and was so glad to see they are in Champaign. I've also experienced their customer service via email/phone, and they have been very helpful, friendly, and professional. Oh, and their fries are among the best I have ever had! read more

The customer service was good at this location, food was made and prepared fresh. I was expecting it to be busy on Saturday but that's okay. This is one of my favorite spots in the Chicagoland area so when I seen they had a location down here in Champaign I had to make visit. read more

I usually prefer chicken over steak when it comes to protein. I tried the chicken shawarma bowl today, and I think I prefer steak more than chicken at Naf Naf! The chicken was drier than I expected. The steak is worth the extra cost to me! read more

Mmmmm. I like this place. I love baba ganush so the combo with couscous was great! I love that you can put it all together. I was an early eater of Naf Naf before there were all the locations. PS don't forget the pita! read more

New spot. Think of this as middle eastern chipotle style place. You come in and pick a pita, a bowl, or a plate. The bowl can be a salad or not a salad. Pick your carb, add your protein, select toppings and check out. Only issue (minor) is that since this is a new place, we expected a greeting and just a little more explanation when we walked in. The board is a little overwhelming to digest when you walk in and they ask what you want. Would've been nicer if they said "welcome! Have you been here before?" ...And offer to walk a new customer through the process/menu. That being said, we figured it out. Just didn't really get to know what all of their offerings were. Service was quick and there is seating available indoors. Parking is easy and you can find them next to the Blaze Pizza and easily off Prospect Ave. read more

Naf Naf Grill - Chicken Shwarma Bowl - Middle Eastern Near Me - Champaign, Illinois

Naf Naf Grill opened pre-pandemic. We had seen it plenty of times but were huge fans of Blaze Pizza. Each time we walked by, we'd say, "We should really stop in!" Based on past reviews, I'm glad we hadn't. I'm also glad we hadn't read the reviews and am more delighted perhaps, they may have, are still in business and we finally decided to give them a try. We were NOT DISAPPOINTED! Naf Naf is more a fusion of Middle Eastern flavors and freshness with just a healthy feeling. While I cannot eat spicy foods, my partner was not disappointed with his Spicy Chicken Pita. Make no mistake, my Chicken Shawarma Bowl was loaded with a beautiful balance of delightful flavors, neither salty nor acidic, (as I imagined it might be) to upset my stomach. I had chosen a light cucumber yogurt dressing. The gentleman brought my dish out with a sample of garlic sauce, which he suggested might enhance the flavor of my bowl choices. I hesitantly acquiesced and soon found my eyeballs rolling to the top of my head. I was sold. My partner & I, loved the pita bread- he especially loved the extra kick of the spice level. He was completely satisfied with his portions and felt no need for additional food when we got home. Their lentil soup was just perfect and what the doctor called for on this cold evening. For my bowl, I chose a base mix of 1/2 couscous and rice; both cooked perfectly, adding hummus for an extra .50. The meat, cooked on a rotisserie over multiple hours was just right- still soft, not dry; seasoned just wonderfully, not at all salty. The purple cabbage added the perfect crunch. Selections of toppings were a feast and sauces, ranging from mild to spicy made it easy to please the taste buds. Finding hummus and great baba ghanoush together, is truly a hidden gem. Both were excellent. I'm already planning a charcuterie board for this weekend's gathering. Safe to say, with all I had, over 1/2 my bowl came home with a lid for tonight's dinner. They also had a Baklava which looked so tempting- but I honestly, could not fit another bite. Saving for this weekend! Ordering was easy. Quite like Chipotle's, which we do eat at a lot, however, I feel the prices were a little less and portions a bit better. Perhaps they have listened and that's a great thing. I found the staff quite helpful- their suggestions much appreciated and made all the difference in my experience, restaurant very clean. While in St. Louis on a recent trip, we came across a similar Middle Eastern restaurant (fine dining) and paid 4- 5 times the cost. We have gotten into a rut here in CMI and are so excited we finally stepped in. It you're a meat lover, vegetarian or even vegan- you'll find many ways to mix it up... don't be shy in asking for suggestions, but do yourselves a favor, whether it's been a while, or looking for a new, (healthy) option for yourself or your family, stop in and give them a try. They've survived the pandemic; they've outlived Blazed Pizza... let's not allow this one to slip away. The only way to ensure we have great options here is to support businesses who work to get it right. That they've done! Dine in; call for order pickup or delivery available through Door Dash or Uber Eats- it doesn't get any easier! Note: This is not a paid review. Just so happy to have finally stopped in. Would be remiss not to do my share! read more

First time here. Had the falafel plate. It was good and fresh tasting. 2 plates and a drink came to $35. A bit on the pricey side

I chose the half rice half salad bowl with chicken option. The cucumber tomato salad was delicious. The green sauce was a touch too salty for me but luckily one of my kids had tzatziki which helped balance flavor. Overall a good experience read more

I ordered this for delivery through Uber Eats. I love that they do buy one get one free deals and thought it was a great time to try this place out. I was hesitant after reading some of the reviews. The food was delicious. We had the chicken bowl with pita bread. The pickles are a must! They add the perfect flavor. I loved the sauces. I do think if I were not doing buy one get one it may be a bit pricey, but that could be because I was ordering through a delivery service. read more

I ordered a bowl with chicken to go and it was so salty, it was inedible! I through it out and ended up having to get something at Cracker Barrel, which was not my first choice. I've eaten at Naf Naf in the Chicago suburbs and it was never that salty. Plus, make surecto tell the genius' who work there if someone orders to go, include A FORK! read more

Since their grand opening, I've been to this location at least 5 times, and I hate to say this... but their service has really gone downhill. The last time I went, there was a huge line of people and only one person doing the serving and ringing the cashier. At first, I thought that they may have been understaffed at that time, but I was surprised to see so many other staff members present and only one person handling the serving. I'm assuming they each have their roles and understand that they have to keep their roles, yet it may have been this server's first time working because she seemed very overwhelmed. She was only able to handle one order by order so I waited in line for a while as it moved slowly. Also, I was disappointed by how the pita was super salty. In the last review, I raved about how good their pitas were. This time around, it was hard and salty. Not what I expect from Naf Naf grill. I'll probably be taking a break from coming here for a while now. Hoping they are able to improve their service. Their staff are really friendly though. read more

Food was delicious and the gentleman who served us was very helpful in helping make choices we would enjoy.

I was in Champaign for an event and found this restaurant on a whim and decided to try it. Wow, it was so good! I lived in the Middle East for several years and have not been able to find a lot of Middle Eastern cuisine restaurants in central IL that taste as good until I ate the falafel salad bowl from Naf Naf Grill! I was so impressed with the freshness, taste, and quantity. I also got lentil soup and it was fantastic. I wish I lived closer to Champaign because this would become a regular spot for me. Employees were also friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

Everything was really good. My husband and I were looking forward to having a new Mediterranean option in town. We tried the combo plate and bowl. The rice was a little undercooked and they were out of pita. I can forgive the pita for supply chain issues during covid. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Just went to opening day! A great staff paired with some great food. I specifically loved -stuffed pita -chopped salad topping -pita bread - hummus -all the sauces -garlic sauce was my fav -bakalava -Sumac onions To be honest their wasn't anything I didn't like. I can't wait to go back and mix and match different meals. Can't complement the manager and staff enough. I encourage others to get out and try Naf Naf! read more

So the employees walk in the front door and go straight to the food to help customers. Really? No washing hands, no gloves, no aprons, no masks and no hair nets. Employees are more concerned about talking amongst themselves then assisting the customers. Not sure who the owner is but they need to be around more. read more

This new restaurant just opened up and it was really good. Their Covid safety was pass average standards and the restaurant itself was super clean. The design is so modern I love it, also the food is so good. The fries were fresh, had a different style to them, and not super oily like some restaurants. The falafels were so good along with the pita bread as well. This place is great for anyone looking for healthy yet delicious food to eat, and not to mention how inexpensive it was. Definitely going again! P.s. if anyone does go, make sure to try the baklava. I promise you won't regret it. read more

The food was ok but the service was horrible. They close at 8 and we - along with the five other customers who walked in after us - arrived around 7:30. They were definitely more interested is us leaving than they were serving us. They kept yelling at us that if anyone in line wanted a falafel, they had to speak up because they were shutting down the fryer. The woman behind us asked if the chicken was halel and they stared at her like she had two heads. We all had to get our food to go because they had already wiped down tables and closed the seating area. They didn't put any sauces on our orders because you apparently have to ask but they didn't have time to offer. We ended up having to eat in our car. Later, we saw that they have tables in the back - but again they were in too much of a hurry to mention that and since the seating area was blocked off, you couldn't see them from inside. As we ate in our car, we watched what appeared to be the manager hanging out with the TMobile employees next door! We won't be going back. read more

This place opened on Monday, May 3, 2021. I went there on May 8 and was happy with my meal. So I returned on Sunday, May 9 at 12:15 PM. Only to be shouted at as I walked in the door that they were all out of falafel and all out of pita bread. So it makes you wonder about the management that they could run out of two of their most fundamental items at 12:15 PM after they've been open for one hour and 15 minutes. When I asked if I could get something that they had instead of the pita bread, the manager explained to me that normally you get the pita bread "free" and therefore when they run out and you don't get pita bread you pay exactly the same amount for the meal. That was irritating enough, but watching their flatscreen TV tuned to the Fox "News" network was more than I could handle. Seriously, for a restaurant to take a political stand by running a network that supported an insurrection on the United States capital, is not a good business decision. Turn the TV to something like the weather channel or take the TV down. read more

Been to many other Naf Naf Grill locations and this is by far the worst. The employees here seem to try to make it take 15+ minutes for something that should take under 5. Mismanaged is an understatement. read more

ive had naf naf before, There's one in Naperville like 2.5 hours north of here... can whole heartedly say this is a Gigantic step down and quality in service. workers were cussing, not following mask guidelines, no hair nets, the person handling my food had no gloves / was also doing the register, food was mild at best and NOT hot... won't return to this location again lmao very disappointed read more

In line with the rest of the reviews - the service here is absolutely HORRIBLE. We ordered bowls and the assembly that went into them from the staff was so horrendous they were inedible. We asked for a drizzle of tahini and she put so much on I was screaming "STOP STOP STOP" and by that time it was drowning in more tahini then I'd ever seen in my entire life haha. Same thing with the garlick sauce on the second bowl. It was hysterically bad. Both bowls went into the trash and we went to penn station down the road instead (which is an absolutely splendid establishment). read more

Food is ok but the service is absolutely horrible. This place is ran by bunch of teenagers who dance and talk loud behind the counter. They do not follow health guidelines as one was making bread with her long hair just dangling close to the food. Very annoying it's like walking into a school cafeteria with bunch of kids to serve you carelessly. Go to The Schawarma joint on green street which has delicious authentic Arabic food and the service is amazing. Sorry never returning!!! read more

If the staff that we encountered today wasn't so bad at their jobs, I would be giving Naf Naf 5 stars. My husband I were so excited for a decent Mediterranean place to finally open up in the C-U area. So much so, that for the last week, we have eaten here four times. We absolutely love the food. The food is always warm. The schwarma is very flavorful and the falafels are always crispy! The sides are so delicious as well. The purple cabbage, hummus and baba ganoush are my favorites. The staff that worked during the weekdays was incredible. They knew their stuff, always made the order correctly, everything, even when they were overwhelmed with the amount of customers. The staff we encountered today, Saturday, was horrible. There were two girls and a guy. Jasmine, the one who checked us out, might as well not work there. She was beyond lazy. The other two employees were busy with the eight people line that had formed after me and she had already checked me out. All I was waiting for was my pita breads to be put in my bag so I could go. Instead of taking the maybe ten steps? to get the pita herself and complete my order, she told the other two employees that she needed pita. Those two were swarmed with customers (one lady who had never had Mediterranean food therefore the employee was describing the food to her). I mean, c'mon, she could've easily gotten the pita and put it in our bag but instead I just stood there waiting for two-three minutes until the other employees brought her the pita. I understand she was working the register but I was the only customer at the register and other days, the register worker has helped the other employees so this was just pure laziness. Sauce is so important in Mediterranean cuisine. Although the meat is very flavorful, you definitely need sauce for the falafels. I had asked Jasmine for garlic sauce THREE times only to get home (10 mins away) to NO SAUCE! My husband had to drive back to get the sauce because the food just isn't right without it. Jasmine literally is so inattentive to the customers. Don't work at a restaurant if you don't like people. She didn't greet any customers that walked in. When she finally handed me my food to go, she didn't even say thank you or smile or come again. I said thank you and she just looked away. She really has a crappy attitude. The weekday staff however is GREAT! As I said, there knowledgeable, they don't get stressed out by but lines, nothing is ever missing from your order. The young man who wears the shirt that says 'Baker' is their star employee. This man is handling complicated orders with long lines and greeting new customers just walking in. He deserves a raise or a promotion because he understands customer service! read more

I just had a great dinner at Naf Naf. It was a wonderful surprise. We were driving around looking for something on the healthier side and decided to give this a try. We were greeted warmly upon entering, which is always a good sign. I chose a bowl with the basmati rice as my base then topped it with chicken schwarma, tomato salad, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, a marinated red cabbage, onions and a very tasty green (spicy) vegetable based sauce on top. Everything tasted so fresh and had great flavor! To top it off, they offered us a HOT, FRESH pita with hummus and I was a very happy lady! Thanks Naf Naf! I really enjoyed my dinner! read more

Gave 5 star because for fast Mediterranean in Champaign-GREAT some things gave me cause to knock it down to 4 but glad they're HERE. Had the BabaGhanoush ckn shawarma bowl, 2 plate Falafel/ckn shawarma and the Falafel hummus bowl. Seems to be like a Chipotle set up. They do a poor job of explaining the format for the different items ie. base bowl, toppings, pita and plate. Didn't know a pita comes w/bowl and plate orders. Falafel is spot on although I prefer it less coarse, it was very grainy. Ckn Shawarma had great smoky flavor, tender pieces. Some of the smaller end pieces were overcooked and dry. Pita, hummus, BabaGhanoush very good. The chopped salad and romaine was fresh-good. Purple cabbage and pickles are tasty. Their basmati rice just okay. The sauces are killer! S'khug and Harissa are spicy HOT with a rainbow of flavor. Tahini sauce good too. The amount of food for the price is good, quantity is adequate. They don't have online ordering up and no Tabbouleh. They were not busy so our order was quick. Definitely a new weekly spot. read more

I fell in love with Naf Naf from their Chicago locations, and I'm thrilled to have one again now that I live in Champaign.
