We just drove 2,414 miles round trip because having a cupcake at Nadia Cakes was on my bucket, and it was totally worth it. The store itself is super, super cute, and the staff was so warm and welcoming. And yes, these cupcakes are amazing - we tried a little bit of everything in terms of flavors, from daily favorites to seasonal flavors. In addition to the one pictured, we also tried a lemon drop and a cheesecake. They were moist and flavorful, and both the buttercream and cream cheese frosting were delightful. I admit I am not a huge cake guy to start with and I think the cupcake craze is a little overdone but still, my daughter wanted to go. April Fools day and I guess they do a bunch of fancy cupcakes for this day. Kitty Litter, Unicorn poop, Noodles (looks like a bowl of noodles), broken glass (sounds dangerous) and a bunch more. I have to give it to them, the decorations we done very well. Now I have had these several times and honestly in the past I have thought "Eh, I've had better". In the past they have been dry and a little to much put into the frosting and not enough in the cake itself. This visit was different though, the cake was very good. Moist and good flavor and the frosting was a nice balance of flavor. I will say my daughters was one with WAY to much sugar in the frosting, almost uneatable. Ok ok ok. We just finished having a baby shower for a couple coworkers. I saw the trays of amazing looking cupcakes. I picked one that looked like it could be caramel (can confirm now it's the same as Erin G's pic, so salted caramel w/ dulce de leche). I was immediately in love with this cupcake. Caramel-y, smooth, sweet, and the filling, holy craaaaap. I asked my co-worker where she got these and she said Nadia Cakes! I had no idea until I sat down and Yelped that they were Cupcake War winners, so I had no preconceived bias going into this cupcake. I stole another one to take back to my desk. It has orange frosting with coconut shavings and a cherry on top. Looking at the flavors (assuming she picked these up yesterday) I would say this must be the "tropical paradise" flavor. I ordered a vegan custom cake w/a photo of the cake's design for my birthday. When I went to pick the cake up it wasn't ready, but I received a call to pick it up. I waited over 20 minutes because the baker told me my decorator messed up my cake so she said she would fix it. It appeared to be ok. The problem happened when I took the cake home it started to cave in. The flowers we're getting dull looking and when I tried to serve it the next day, it was too soft it started to crumble as I cut into it, and it tastes horrible! This all happened before Valentine's day! The worst cake wars of my life! Nadia Cakes isn't the closest to where I live. I have to drive about 20ish minutes to get here, so of course my hopes were high. My hopes were even higher because if Food Network had a #1 fan it would be this girl right here! You know that I've watched Cupcake Wars endless amounts, and when I heard Nadia's won and was local, it was a must go. We tried a bunch of them, and I do agree with most reviews on here about these cupcakes. Most of them seemed dry to me, and some with a sugary grittiness. I remember that the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake is filled with the "cookie dough", but it didn't taste like that to me at all. It was more of a cookie dough cream, if anything. Their award winning cupcake (Cheesecake) was the best one out of the bunch, probably why it won Food Network. Their cupcakes overall aren't as moist as I would like, and they have a taste like they've been sitting out all day. As much as it seems like I'm bashing them, they're not horrible! I just think I can find cupcakes that taste better for less! I'm not sure if I'm going to drive out of my way to this place, especially since the cupcakes are more expensive than I'm used to. One thing I do appreciate is that their cupcakes are super creative for occasions like Thanksgiving, but especially April Fools!! I'm not crazy about those reviewers who start with "Don't listen to other reviewers" - because frankly, I think you should. Nadia Cakes is good. Not great, not awesome, not spectacular. It's good. I've had worse cupcakes, mostly those I make in my own kitchen - while mine are flavorful and moist, my frosting always sucks. But I digress. I'm no baker and this place does a good job. I had the Lady Godiva and I thought it was plenty tasty. I'm very picky about frosting; I don't like it grainy or sweet and this was ok. But their cake didn't wow me at all. It was just.... well... cake. Tastes like a box mix from Aldi. I also purchased a pupcake, and I'm guessing the dog thought it was fine. She ate it, anyway. Honestly, if you're in the north or west metro and you need a cupcake fix - definitely stop here. If you're anywhere else, go elsewhere. I wouldn't drive more than 5 miles for these, when there are way better cupcakes in the metro. These just aren't worth what they are charging. There was a line that moved a tad slow but that's because the cashier sole focus is whoever is at the front of the line. Also, since the cupcakes change daily there is no menu. The cheesecake cupcakes were SOOOO good! I highly recommend. The vanilla was good too. A tad too much frosting in it for me. Salted caramel was at the bottom of the list for me. Of course I turned to yelp, which steered me towards Nadia's. I'm so thankful for this. My husband and I are on the ketogenic lifestyle and they had keto options! So of course we order 6 keto cupcakes 6 keto cookies, as well as 12 cupcakes for the remainder of the family. The taste was so amazing perfectly sweet and moist. The frosting is so creamy. And the best part they ship! So now me and my hubby can have ours shipped four hours away- this could be good. And we'll probably bad. But so delicious so worth it. We tried a five flavors. I was let down by the Famous Cheesecake Cupcake. Maybe all the hype? The vanilla-vanilla was so good. SO GOOD. It's why I'm giving 5 stars. Otherwise it's just be a 4. Everything else was just normal. Perfect crumb and perfect vanilla bean frosting. I wished of gotten 5 of these! The chocolate-peanut butter was awesome. The kid would only share one bite. Oreo and red velvet were cooked perfect but just normal flavors. Anything "Oreo" besides an actual Oreo cookie is always a let down for me so - take that how you will. Just "meh" The crumb on this cake is Purple Ribbon. Baked perfectly and moist. Better than all other cupcakeries we've tried. Worth at least one trip. I prefer the cupcakes at Cocoa & Fig located in downtown Minneapolis and Edina. The cupcakes here were too dense and the frosting too sweet for me. I think it is definitely personal preference on this one. Shop has a great atmosphere and they get through customers pretty quickly and have their routine down pat and pretty packaging but that's it. read more

From all the cupcakes I've tried here, none have ever had a bad experience with. Some cupakes can get a tad too sweet, but that's my preference. I love that they always have the go-to flavors out every day, but also change up the extra flavors. They have a cupcake for everyone (check out the super long list on their website) Staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is adorable. My best friend recently had her Bridal shower at Nadia's and they were so accommodating and helpful. They even pulled some of their own decorations to add to ours (black because the bride is goth) just to use for the day. It was so lovely. All the staff are lovely. I went to get a birthday cupcake for my dog (yes I'm that dog mom!). Their store is clean, cute and well kept up! It's a dine in or take out friendly store that has a fun spin on decor. The staff is friendly and well groomed. The flavors are fun, unique and drool worthy. Good thing I'm on a budget of I'd take one of EVERYTHING!! My dog LOVED his cupcake and ate it in 1 bite (i have video proof if u don't believe me!). It was a perfect size for him (comes in small and normal size cupcakes) and perfect since we had cupcakes at the party. My only negative comment is there were just as many staff in the store as customers. Similar to the customers, they were standing around and talking. I'm not sure what they current task was, but I thought it looked tacky to have 4 workers present in the store, and have 1 help a customer and 1 doing other tasks, while 2 stood there and talked to each other while there was a line waiting for the 1 person to help them.... I was frustrated because I just wanted my doggie cupcake and to go, but I had to wait since the one worker was helping a family with very energetic kids, who were very indecisive... But if you like cupcakes in fun and more traditional flavors I recommend giving Nadia's a try! read more

Such an absolutely amazingly pleasant experience at Nadia Cakes, and one of the best cupcakes I'll probably ever taste. Looking at you, cheesecake cupcake. My boyfriends mom told me about this place (us both being Cupcake Wars fans) and managed to pull off a stop here on a road trip. SO HAPPY we stopped. Yes, the cupcakes are pricey. But, honestly, every cupcake is pricey these days. I'm obsessed with the cheesecake cupcake and could have gotten a dozen of those alone, but we got about 6 or 7 different flavors from the awesome selection offered, plus a couple macarons. I also really liked the brownie cupcake, the cake itself was so moist, gooey and a solid mix of cake and fudge... so good. Other crowd favorites were the Oreo Mint Blizzard and the strawberry. HOW THE HELL DOES THIS PLACE HAVE A RATING OF 4.5 STARS??? Just because Nadia Cakes was featured in some sort of TLC show doesn't make it taste good. I have numerous friends who are just as big of cupcake fanatics as I am and we have all come to the conclusion that this place straight up SUCKS. I think the only reason it has this many stars is because it's the only cute looking cupcake shop in the area AND because the people of Maple Grove and the surrounding area don't know what a good cupcake is. I guess it's hard to compare these cupcakes when you don't know anything better. First things first, THE WORKERS ARE HORRIBLE. I walked in my first AND LAST time and this employee just stared at me like she hated me or something. I've never seen this girl in my life. Her stare was so horrible I almost lashed out at her in front of everyone...but how classy would that have looked...Going on...Aside from crazy-eyes girl, the other workers just pretty much ignored me. I got a couple cupcakes and even though I had been treated like s*** I was still excited to try the cupcakes. Sat down, took a bite, and had to force myself to swallow it. GROSS. JUST...gross. My 15 year old little sister makes better cupcakes than this! The flavor ideas are wonderful but the execution of taste...JUST WRONG. I took a bite out of my other cupcake...same reaction. I immediately tossed them and vowed to never go back in. The frosting tastes nasty and the cake was a little on the dry side. My advice: STAY AWAY. Outside of cupcakes, they also have cake pops, cannoli, bars, cookies, and specialize in making lovely fondant cakes. Good for them for offering variety because who knows when this cupcake craze will plateau? My introduction to Nadia Cakes is during their $2 cupcake sale. So I was able to buy a few to sample! I got the pretty in pink, lemon drop, salted caramel, chocolate vanilla, oreo, and cookie dough cheesecake cupcake. Hubby and I split every cupcake except the oreo he ate all on his own, so I can't comment as to that one. My favorite by far is the pretty in pink cupcake! It had a almond flavored cake and it was very light. The lemon drop has an actual lemon drop on top of the cupcake. It had a lemon filling and had a pretty strong lemon flavor, which I loved. However, it was a little too rich and heavy. The salted caramel had good flavor as well but also a little too rich and heavy for my tastes. The chocolate vanilla was the second best. It had rich chocolate flavor that was cut by the vanilla frosting so it never made it to the point of being overly rich. The cookie dough cheesecake cupcake was pretty decent. It was "filled" with cookie dough, but there was just a small blob of it in like 1/4 of the cupcake. The cupcake just kind of melted in your mouth. It is a gluten free cupcake so the texture was a little different from your typical cheesecake texture that uses flour in the recipe as well. I do have to say all the cupcakes I tried were moist. I've read some other reviews where people complained of dry cupcakes and I don't know if those are one off situations. But my cupcakes came out moist and delicious, if just a tad too rich. But that just means it's perfect for sharing, so I'm able a few and split! read more

Useful tip: This isn't located in the main section of Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. It's across the road at Fountains at Arbor Lakes (the side that has the Costco). Basically the other side of Hemlock. Right away on the left side when driving on Fountains Dr. So I consider myself to be a bit of cupcake connoisseur after having had cupcakes from Molly's in Chicago, Crumbs in NYC, Sugar Sweet Sunshine in NYC, Magnolia in NYC, along with all the Minneapolis top spots. So I was really excited about trying out Nadia Cakes, a recent award winner on the show Cupcake Wars. The Good: - The decor is super cute. It's exactly what you would imagine a really nice cupcake shop to look like. The employees are all super friendly and helpful. - The cupcakes look amazing. They are beautifully crafted and look insanely delicious. You will want to take a picture first before you gobble it down... if you can somehow summon the will power to do so. - Sugar & Spice cupcake. A great recommendation from the cheery Cupcake guy behind the counter. The frosting was super creamy, but not overly sweet or rich. Definitely one of their top cupcakes. - The Peanut Butter Cup cupcake. This is a good, solid cupcake. It also looks great with its tiny Peanut Butter Cup adornment. With a nice smooth creamy frosting which is not overly sweet. Unfortunately I have had a much better Peanut Butter cupcake before at Molly's (called the Ron Bennington). It's a tough measuring stick indeed, but I would be remiss if I didn't take that into consideration. The Bad: - Cookies & Cream cupcake. After having this cupcake, I went into a temporary sugar shock blindness, when I came to I found myself near the dumpsters behind the Cost Co. On a sugary sweet scale of 1 to 10, it would break the machine that does the test. Now just so you know, I'm a huge sugar freak/addict/hound. Trying the Cookies & Cream made me feel like Captain Ahab as he is sucked into the depths of the sea by Moby Dick. But not in a good way. I can only compare this to the Molly's Cookies N Cream which is a much more satisfying cupcake. Next time I'll try the Cookie Dough. The Ugly: - Cupcake Wars Winning Vanilla Bean Cheesecake with Triple Berry Compote (wow that's a mouthful). I assumed this would be a home run but it didn't really impress me. It tasted OK but I wasn't floored. Then I thought about why. On the show Cupcake Wars you are given a very finite amount of time with limited ingredients to come up with something good. While any other cupcake recipe you could spend the necessary time to perfect it. So it makes sense that anything from that show wouldn't be as good as a time perfected recipe. Also my expectations were higher since it's so publicized. And I'm not really a cheesecake person. It was also the least attractive cupcake they sell and thus the "ugly". - The Ice Cream Cupcake. I like the idea, but the execution wasn't there. It is a cold cupcake with some ice cream filling. The frosting on top was really hard and there was just no real flow to this cupcake. I love a good ice cream cake, but this cupcake had none of those elements. This was definitely my biggest disappointment overall. I would try to have a softer ice cream center and a softer topping instead of that hardened frosting - The web site. Built with antiquated flash (sorry tablet users), it looks and feels outdated and clunky. In stark contrast to their storefront which is beautifully designed. I do like the feature which has the calendar telling you exactly which cupcakes you can find on which days. Keep in mind they have a very well maintained Facebook page which is constantly being updated. Other thoughts: Not many of the cupcakes (that I could tell) had a ganache/filling. I find that some of the best cupcakes I have had usually employ this technique and would like to see it in more of the Nadia Cakes cupcakes. After writing my original review I found out they *DO* have mini cupcakes and that they are located in the cookie case. Unfortunately I didn't see them when I was there, which definitely means I have to come back to try them Final thoughts: I really wanted to like Nadia Cakes but the bar is raised so high in the cupcake world now, you really have to hit a grand slam. They definitely appear to be doing amazing well. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and people were coming in and out of the place in droves. They have over 135 flavors which means they have something for everyone. If you want to treat yourself and you are in the area, it's definitely worth checking out. I will definitely be stopping back at some point to try some of their other flavors. read more
