I don't typically prefer Mexican food, but I had the fortune of checking this place out after another restaurant on Main St was booked. Thankfully, this place has ample seating to accommodate large groups without a reservation, which is always a plus. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and she helped us make some dinner choices. Overall, I enjoyed my food immensely, way more than I expected to. I'm not a Tex Mex connoisseur, so I can't speak to the authenticity of the menu, but everything was delicious and good enough that I'd definitely visit again if it were closer to the Cities. read more

Let me preface this by saying this place is catering to a suburban clientele and local tourists. It is not curated to be authentic street food - it's meant for large portions, a beachy drink, a classic bar feel, and a fun time. Stopped in here after walking around Stillwater on a sunny Sunday. After having a beer on the water and a long walk, I decided it was time for some tacos. This place was absolutely packed, but as a solo traveler I was seated fairly quickly at a small table inside. Fun colorful and tropical decor. I ordered the Shrimp Tacos and a Margarita. The mason jar marg was salty and refreshing and the tacos were HUGE. The rice was cooked perfectly, the shrimp were large and had a nice pop, and overall the flavors were balanced! A little acid here, a little something savory there, a tangy sauce! I slammed two of the tacos and brought the third one home for my partner to try. Fun filling stop on a beautiful day! read more

Sorry, this was a big no for me. Overpriced, slow service (but they were busy but still 25 minutes for tacos is a long time to wait) and while portions look big, there was hardly any meat. Rice was crunchy and hard?! Oh and they charged for chips and salsa. Bill came to over 60 for 2 of us. For SIX TACOS and chips. A note: it's is ridiculously loud in there. The noise is not the restaurant chatter but a super big business of margarita mixing going on in the bar. Bottom line: Skip and go to chipotle and save your $$ for an above ground pool. :) read more

What can I say... other than I'm suprised Nacho Mama's isn't higher rated. We've been here many times and always have enjoyed the food and drinks. We went on a Wednesday night, it wasn't too busy so we were seated quickly. We sat inside, give it is early April and still chilly in the evenings. We had a carafe of house marg's to split between the three of us. We wanted a spicy version but they don't see them in carafe's so the, wonderful, bartender mulled some cucumber and jalapenios in individual cups for all of us. They were delicious! We started with chips and salsa while we chatted, the wait person was so accomidating and didn't rush us. We ordered three meals one being the classic enchilada bake with pork, the person that ordered that said it was very good. The other friend had the Shrimp Street Taco's and also said they were very good. I had the Smoothered Burritos with fajita vegi's. As usual, it was delicious. The ambiance is great, they have lots of fun things hung on the walls. It looks like they're redoing the patio area. If you're in Stillwater (MN) try Nacho Mama's - yum read more

Blah food. Blah drinks. Way overpriced, because it's in Stillwater I suppose. It's cheaper to make your own taco meat and roll it up in a tortilla, seriously. No comment on the staff, just bland overall. read more

Popped into the front bar area for a snack and a margarita. It was a little toasty as far as temperature went but the service was fast and friendly. We ordered the pulled pork nachos to share and the house margaritas. The nachos had ample toppings but some salsa would have been a nice addition. The margarita was perfect. read more

It blows my mind that all the reviews aren't 5 stars. I go here at lease 1 time a week and I've never had a bad experience. I've had 90% of the menu and it's all absolutely delicious every single time. The street corn snacks Burritos always so dang good Steak sandwich is my go to - beat steak sandwich every Nachos are amazing The service is always perfect. Restaurant is I vibe. I would buy this place. read more

My friend and I shared the smothered chicken burrito because it was gigantic!! The two of us couldn't finish one burrito! It was so delicious. The cheese sauce was so unique, but it was wonderful. It pulled the whole meal together. The burrito came with rice and beans which were tasty as well. We also had the chips and salsa appetizer, which was also very good. We were seated promptly even during a busy lunchtime. We ate outside and it was lovely. I would recommend going back anytime! read more

For a Taco Tuesday, we expected it to be busier. We waited for some time at the door to be greeted/acknowledged and seated, enough time, that we went looking for someone that worked there. Once seated we ordered the nachos, figuring they must be good if they are part of the name. We also ordered a side of queso. The nachos were just okay with a weird garlic seasoning, like someone just took garlic powder and sprinkled it across the dish. The queso also had a weird smoky bacon flavor that wasn't expected and not for me. The seating area was also crawling with flies and really loud. It was difficult to hear conversations. Our server was friendly but was smacking some gum the entire time she waited on us and others. Maybe it was an off night? read more

We stopped by here on a Saturday as we were enjoying the last few days of the Fall Season. The restaurant looks small from the street however, when you walk inside it is very comfortable and cozy. We didn't know what to order so I picked the Smothered Burrito and my wife ordered the Barbeque Pork Burrito. We were NOT disappointed! The portion was so huge!! There must have been at least 3/4 of a pound of meat inside the burritos. The taste was phenomenal and we couldn't get over how well everything was prepared. The portions were so large that we had to ask for "to go" containers so we could enjoy another meal at our home with the leftovers. The waitress was very friendly and helpful throughout our meal and we will definitely return in the near future! read more

This is going to be an unpopular opinion based on other reviews but I think if you find these to be the best nachos in MN, you should broaden your horizons. This place is a solid choice for a patio margarita but it doesn't seem like most things on the menu would/should far exceed your expectations. I feel bad for giving three stars because there wasn't anything wrong, but I didn't get a great vibe from the service as is typical in Stillwater, and the food is just... okay?! Nonetheless, I really wanted to enjoy it so I'll probably be back to try the tacos and another margarita! :) read more

Great food great portions great staff. Janelle K. hates on Mexican restaurants but I think even she could enjoy this place.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to when I am in downtown Stillwater. The atmosphere was perfect for a Sunday night dinner. Service: The service we had was phenomenal. Our food and drinks came out in record time and the server was very attentative the whole night. Food: The food was delicious. We also shared delicioua pork nachos at the beginning. The serving sizes are huge and can be split into multiple meals. The food also heats up fairly well at home. Extremely flavorful food!!! read more

Almost gave 3 stars thinking it was bar only (we came in the front door) turns out, as we left out the back there's another room not as loud as the bar. The food was good, portions are huge (tip, they don't reheat well). We came for the nachos, but after reading the menu we realized they didn't seem "special" which is what we were thinking given the name. Cute decor, staff was nice but parking is a typical pain for Stillwater. read more

The tacos were very drippy, perfectly greasy, and amazingly seasoned, and the most perfectly cooked beef I have ever put in my mouth. 5

The place has a fun vibe, and festive decor. The portions are huge, and if you order appetizers, then I recommend taking one main dish to share. Quite honestly, I could have stopped at the appetizers, and ended up bringing my entire main course home. Drinks are big, flavorful, but weak in alcohol. read more

They changed their chips and the Enchilada Bake is totally different. It used to be saucy and layered, and now it's full of beans and onions and half the size, not saucy. I'm sure the other items are good, but we had an annual visit for the Enchilada Bake and were disappointed. read more

Food was very authentic Mexican, tasty and the portions were generous. Definitely will go again

I left my leftovers at the restaurant and I'm still sad about it 24 hours later - that's how good the meal was. I stopped by at 6pm on a Monday night for a little girls night. They have a nice, quiet patio with a lot of shade, and yes, it is dog friendly (but there might not be a lot of space if Fido is a big good boy!). We started with drinks - a pina colada for me, and a margarita for my friend. They make great drinks! And the price is great! We also tossed in an order of guacamole. It was amazingly flavorful. If you're a Minnesotan like us, you should know that their jalapeños are HOT - prepare yourself accordingly! What I liked most about this app is that it naturally comes gluten free with the corn chips, which are fried fresh. For mains, my friends got the enchilada bake and I got the carne asada. THE PORTIONS ARE WILD. We knew we would be taking home part of the meal before we even started. She said the enchilada bake is always one of her favorites. My steak was so tasty - tender, sweet flavor, with awesome toppings and a quesadilla soaking up the marinade. YUM. Prices are also great, especially for summer in Stillwater. read more

This place is small but adorable! Service is friendly and staff appeared happy to be there. Now to the best part... the FOOD! My favorite thing on the menu are the tacos and make sure you get the fried flour shell! Tacos were huge I ordered 2 but was full after 1. My son ordered the chipotle steak sandwich which was also huge and very good for taste. I also ordered chips, salsa and guacamole for an appetizer, chips were dry and terrible, but salsa and guacamole delicious. You'd think for fresh mex food they'd have something better than generic bagged chips. Parking is nonexistent but there is plenty of public parking within a few blocks. read more

Love the decor, menu, and location of this establishment! Stillwater is a fun place to shop, eat, and walk along the river. I had a Margarita which was delicious! My significant other had the bbq chicken burrito. I thought what an interesting idea for a burrito but he loved it. We visited on a Friday which was quite busy. We sat in the patio which is located at the back of the building. Service was ok. I'd visit this place again in the future. read more

My husband and I were supposed to be on a kid free vacation this week. Plans fell through so kid is home and so are we. We decided to find some places we hadn't been to that were close to home. Took a nice motorcycle ride to Stillwater to try nacho mamas Mexican cuisine. The place was pretty cozy, we sat in the dining section, we were offered either dinner inside or out or the bar. The dining area lighting is a little too dark for me. Bummed when I realized they didn't offer free chips and salsa. Ordered some for 4$. Not bad but eh. Ordered fajitas to share. They were very good! A good lunch for 34$ not bad. We will probably go here again. read more

I don't like giving negative reviews, but this place was a huge letdown. As other reviewers have stated we were waiting to be greeted for a very long time as employee after employee walked past us making eye contact and then ignoring us, I could have overlooked that, however, if the food was at least good. Unfortunately, the burrito I got, which was truly massive was incredibly salty had no flavor and did not resemble anything that I would consider Mexican. The chips they served were not good, seemed mass produced as opposed to freshly made, and the salsa served with those also had no flavor and was very salty. read more

This is a fun, lively Mexican restaurant with a good selection of menu items including a lettuce wrap taco for those watching carbs. The portions were HUGE and ingredients were fresh. Our table had the taco salad, fajita, chimichanga and shrimp tacos. Everyone said their food was great, however the shrimp tacos were unexpectedly hot/spicy to the point that I could not eat them. There was no indication of this on the menu, which was disappointing. Had I known this I would have made a different menu choice and had a more enjoyable experience. Please consider noting this on the menu in the future. read more

Huge portions of delicious Mexican food but there's a disconnect. Cute patio in the back for about 40 but limit you stay to 1.5hrs as requested my management's sign at the host stand. First time I've seen this. What if I'm still eating? Odd. *Chips & Salsa $4 with additional salsa another $2. Why charge? This is a staple like rice and beans. Like all others who charge for chips and salsa, you automatically lose a star. In addition, the salsa was just ok. I like the texture of the veggies but there was no heat. *Carafe of house margaritas, People Choice for best, 5 years running *Enchilada with shredded beef- killer. Love the layers and excellent sauce. So much food. Just power through it. * Nacho Mama's Nachos $14 HUGE! Good portion of shredded beef over a large place of chips and cheese. The food is delicious, the margarita refreshing and the service great. The issue is the little stuff like limiting my time on the patio and charging for chips and salsa. Those decisions have really put me off on Nacho Mama's. And that's a shame as I'd like to go back but probably wont. read more
