Naan N Curry stood out for me in terms of Indian food in Portland. It's an amazing place with really good food. Been here couple of times. We tried palak paneer, tandoor roti, samosa chat, chicken tandoori, lassi. Everything was perfect and good. The drinks are good too. Ambiance is very good with funny bollywood posters all around the place. They could definitely improve on their service because both the times when I went, they didn't gave an option to us to select the tip and they added it by themselves which is not a good practice. I'm mentioning this since it happened both the times when we went to the place with different people. Overall, a good Indian food place to try.

Considering the high star rating I was surprised and dismayed at the food at Naan & Curry in St. Johns. The service was attentive (although we did have to request the server/busser, which was the same person ,to take our dirty dishes away while we stayed and visited). Unfortunately that was the best part of our dining experience. The ambiance is lacking. Not much effort has been made to decorate or make it feel welcoming. Now for the food: This was the worst part. I must say I'm a bit of an Indian food snob because I have lived and traveled in India. If I'm going to go to an Indian restaurant I expect the flavors and ingredients to be authentic and flavorful. My friend and I shared the Chicken Korma and Madras mixed vegetable curry, plain naan and mango lassis. The Korma was ok. Nothing great. It lacked salt. The vegetable curry was the worst. The vegetables seemed to come out of a big industrial Sysco bag. Broccoli and mushrooms are NOT authentic Indian vegetables. I never saw broccoli in India! And there were your standard snacking "baby" carrots in there too. Yikes! That tells me they are lazy. The spice mixture tasted like grocery store curry powder. Ick. That would explain the bright yellow color. Yes, many Indian dishes with turmeric are yellow, but this was not authentic turmeric yellow. It lacked salt , and none was on the table. The consistency of the gravy was slightly gluey as well. The naan was ok. You can get better frozen at your local Indian market. It was thin and overcooked. The mango lassis were fine. I enjoyed them the most of everything. All you need to make those are a blender, a can of "mango pulp" and yogurt. Boom! You can make them at home. It just felt like nobody cares about this place, from the cold, stark décor to the low quality food. Maybe if you don't know your Indian food it's fine but I won't be wasting my money at any of their locations in the future.

Chicken tikka masala, super!

This did not disappoint. Was my first time having butter chicken and it was a delight. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The naan was good. Will be back

Delicious food and good service in a diner ambience that in no way matches the food served here. The bright American style diner interior is not an indicator of the layered, nuanced Indian food served here. It doesn't matter really because the food, the service and the dinner conversation ultimately matter more to me and my dining partners. Our food was outstanding--I can't wait to return to try something more daring than medium heat curry. Don't get me wrong--that curry was great. I just suspect there's a whole menu of great waiting to be discovered. There's no alcohol available at this early point of their St. John's location, but it's coming. I'll be here when it arrives.

It is great having quality Indian food in the St. John's neighborhood. The chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani, and garlic naan were all flavorful and good sized dishes. Will definitely be back.

Just got a take out order with two of the three dishes wrong, including getting shrimp instead of paneer in a biryani. Won't be back.

Ask the Community - Naan N Curry

Will the establishment be able to tell me what options are prepared without gluten (wheat flour, barley, malt, etc)?

Hi we have tons of gluten free and dairy free options. Since each dish is prepared differently and on the basis of customer preferences and they are highly customizable.

The chicken is cooked in it, and was cooked beautifully. This is a very different experience than almost any other Indian restaurant that mixes spices and chicken cooked separately into already cooked rice. Apna Chaat Bhavan is my usual stop for Biryani, but this is on another level, I haven't found any other local restaurants that come close (Bombay Cricket Club had great biryani back in the day too). It's not Hyderabad Dum style, it is a Punjabi regional style as I understand. The palak paneer was clearly made with fresh spinach, it had an excellent intense fresh spinach flavor, a big difference from the mild bland stuff most restaurants serve. The paneer was also fantastic, with a great flavor and texture - not the softer/more bland style often served. Haveli serves proper homemade food with good fresh ingredients, big portions, very nicely balanced flavors. I'm so happy this opened because I love good Indian food, and this is by a long shot my new favorite spot in the Portland area.

Restaurant and bar are large. They were unfortunately less busy than we would hope... good Indian food can be difficult to come by, especially in a small town. The menu was great - lots of options including vegetarian. We decided to do a 'progressive' dinner that we shared. We ordered a few items off the appetizer menu. They were EXCELLENT! Fortunately that we ordered slowly because the portions are large. We filled up before making it to the entree. It was delightful. They unfortunately do not have a full bar. It is limited to (I believe beer?) and Indian wine. The options are basically red or red. It was fine. Not the best, not the worst... just wish they had a few more options on the bar menu. Give it a try, food and service were ON POINT. Price is extremely fair - support local!

I came with three friends for lunch; we all placed individual orders then took our numbers (on a small standup sign) back to our table to chat and enjoy the day. Soon food came for the two men in our party, and we women encouraged them to eat rather than wait on our food. So eat they did, and in another 10 or so minutes more food arrived, but not my order. After a short discussion we realized that my food had been given to one of the men, and he had eaten it; now the food he actually ordered arrived, leaving him with two meals and me with none. Our server seemed to think it was our fault that we got the wrong food, and brought me a roti to eat but never replaced my meal. I was not pleased to have spent $17.50 for a serving of roti, which wasn't exactly the lunch I had paid for. I think i wpuld have liked the food if I'd had a chance to eat what I ordered. it would be most appropriate for the restaurant to refund my money since, through no fault of my own, I did not receive the food I paid for. It was the server who mistakenly put my food down elsewhere, and my friend who ate it had no idea it wasn't his. Unfortunately there was not so much as an apology, and I won't be returning to Mirasata.

There's…read moredefinitely a part of me that misses pre-pandemic era when lunch buffets were common place and this place is only a few blocks from my office. I got there a little after 11:30. The sign said the buffet started at 11:30 but they weren't ready, so I had to wait a little bit. Not a big deal, especially when a place is trying something new. It gave me an opportunity to check out the space. Like a lot of Indian restaurants, it's a little over the top, with the decor pushing towards opulent but not in an overly stuffy way. The buffet was setup along the bar top, and it was clear they were still figuring it out. Instead of chafing dishes and sternos, they were using electric warming trays and setting out the cookware on top of them. Price wise, it's $20, which feels like the going rate these days (i.e. it's the same as Namaste). That being said, the smaller setup and the individually cooked items meant a way higher quality of food. There was a chicken curry, mushroom magic, a daal, chicken tikka, gulab jamun and a handful of other items including a fusion quesadilla with chicken and pieces of fried paneer. The curry was fine, nothing special. The daal (I think tadka?) was a little thinner than I prefer and a slightly over-seasoned, but was good even with the over seasoning. The mushroom magic was good, but the real spotlight was the chicken tikka. With everything being prepared in smaller batches than the stereotypical buffet, this was the moistest chicken tikka I ever had, and the texture and flavor far exceeded anything I would expect from a buffet. They did bring out fresh naan, but that felt like something they were doing since it was still new/slow, i.e. they had naan on the buffet line too. The only thing I would have liked would have beeen some achar, but I'm sure that puts me in a very small slice of potential customers. Definitely see myself coming back here, and ideally dragging along some of my coworkers. tl;dr; smaller buffet with incredible quality due
