Genuinely the worst thrift store I have ever been to. The prices are OUTRAGEOUSLY high. Some jeans $35+, sweaters $20+, and jackets $65+. Do not go here unless you want to pay normal retail prices. Owner is insane. I have been warned about this place before, but didn't listen because the prices were somewhat better than other thrift stores . I spent about an hour walking around picking out stuff. Some things were priced crazy but others were fine. I go to check out and the cashier peels a sticker off the price I picked the item up at and calls the manager over. He changes the price of that item and one other item (that only had 1 sticker) and accuses me of changing the price of both.... Sir you not properly training your pricing employees is not my problem. Train your employees not to misprice or double sticker things. He said he wasn't going to let me back in if he saw it happen again..... I left my whole cart there and just exited the building. What an insane way to treat customers. You don't have to worry about me coming back, I would never stand for being treated like that again. Keep your garbage, I could buy it cheaper on eBay anyway. I had a friend who last year picked up a children's camera off the shelf and tried to buy it and the owner snatched it from him and said it was mispriced... The manager here is rude! I walked in with a donation bag and I was told to come back tomorrow. Fine. I come back in with no bags, and the manager snidely says "That wasn't so hard, was it?". I reply "Don't be a jerk." He says "You're the jerk. You know what, get out of the store. And if you come back, I'm calling the police." Then the security guard follows me outside and asks me "What happened?" and before I can say anything, he starts talking over me. I tell him "You asked me what happened, and you're not even letting me answer" he turns his back and walks back inside the store. First time thrifting here and I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, large variety of clothes, shoes, bags, knick knacks and furniture but on the other hand, pricing was all over the place. They had used items priced higher than retail cost which was a bit confusing but they also had some really great deals so I guess it depends on what you are looking for. There were some great deals on furniture pieces and glassware. The store offers 25%, 50% and 75% off on certain color tags which is great. You can find some really nice things for cheap if you stick to the colors that are discounted. Some of the other things I'd recommend you just buy them at a retail store as they would literally be cheaper brand new. Will go again to see if the inconsistent pricing levels out and to check out what's new. read more

When my mother was around this thrift store was her favorite one to visit. It is very disheartening that this location is greedy for money in a honest neighborhood like Union NJ. I purchased a wallet that I thought was authentic. It was displayed behind the counter and a written receipt had to be created just so I can purchased it. I was super excited that I paid $50 for a "luxury" item. Although the signs close to the ceiling said final sale it wasn't verbalized to me at the counter I return back and share with the manager that hey I just want to exchange. The way it was stored was misleading, and i would not have paid $50 for fake used wallet. He was adamant that all sales are final. I ultimately put the wallet back into the shopping cart in front of the manager. Not only and I'm embarrassed, I felt stupid. I'm down $50 for trusting my community thrift store. Worst experience buying furniture in my life. The workers themselves were willing to work with you but the manager Eddie is the rudest. The store claims to match prices and give you a better deal but when you actually show them better prices from other places, they keep insisting there has to be some sort of catch whether it is taxes or delivery dates. Absolutely any excuse not to work with you. If you actually manage to stomach the process of purchasing from this crook, the delivery will be even worse. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERY CORNER OF YOUR FURNITURE before those guys leave your house. If your furniture opens up, open it up. The assembly guys left a bunch of screws and two of the bottom leg supports inside of the couch we bought. Parts of the couch wobbled. It wasn't until we tried tightening and re-assembling, that we realized they used the wrong screws for certain areas so we basically had to assemble it ourselves. If you have any issues, don't even bother trying to call the manager. He will say it is your fault for not checking properly and will do absolutely nothing to help you. Good afternoon. I would like to escalate a matter that took place on 3.19.23 a Hispanic male manager called the cops to escorte out today after I appropriately asked him for his name..why did I ask? I purchased a bin early.. then decided to browse items atmy uniques thrift front glass displayn. I saw a sex toy out front next to a perfume set which seemed inappropriate. What kind of manger would allow that? I asked to speak to he now rather than the manager coming to speak to me.. he gives me sign language used his hands to motion me to come how unprofessional. But I complied. I then advised him that I did not think it was appropriate to have children see this or even adults He then stated that this was a private owned store and that since it's private there was nothing that he had to do. I then asked him for his managerial name. He refused. Got up as I decided to take a photo of the item and he lied saying I was getting aggressive and called the police . I feel that his behavior was racially motivated from his lack of respect to even come to speak to me and see his display to how quickly he rushed to call a police saying I was getting aggressive with him simply for asking his name. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. The staff are HORRIBLE! None of them will even crack a smile at you and don't acknowledge your presence until they feel like it. The only time they pay attention is when they're hovering over your shoulder at the check out. Everything is outrageously over priced, even the lower end items. On Monday, July 26th, I went into this store for the first time. I had just left Marshalls so I was carrying a bag. Upon my entering, the gentleman at the front demanded I give him my bag and he gave me a ticket. Antiquated security system but I get it. After I made my purchase I went to the front to return my ticket and get my bag. The same gentleman handed me a Marshalls bag but the item inside did not belong to me. Apparently they gave someone else my bag. I was told this never happens and they will review the cameras and get back to me as far as how to resolve this issue. I was also told usually when this happens, the customer returns the item. So which is it? Happens often or this was the first incident? I called yesterday and was told they were still working on it. I called this evening and the Manager on Duty told me they would review the cameras tomorrow and get back to me. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. When I asked for his name so I could make a note of who I spoke to, he told me he did not have to give me his name. It's now three nights later and I have absolutely no proof of anything to back up my story. I just have to hope that they do the right thing. This is ridiculous and nobody has been helpful nor apologetic!! read more

We was at Unique in Union and we grab something in a good price, and that price that the people put was not the correct price. When we went to pay they said that's not the correct price seems like we change prices and they obligated us to either buy or they said they call the police and made a report , because we don't have time for that we ended paying for something that we going to use as a costume. What happened to this place??? I lived in Westfield for 5 years, and I went to this store at least 3 or more times a week on my way home from work. Some of the things I bought there, from clothing to small appliances were unbelievably cheap. An all suede, brand new Brooks Brothers light winter coat, in the Brooks Brothers online catalog for almost $1000-I bought it for $12 here. More expensive dress shirts than I can count-Armani, Thomas Pink, Turnbull & Asser-never paid more than $10. $400 Borsalino Como hat-$7. I was away for almost two years and came back a couple of months ago, and I thought I was in the wrong place. The prices on EVERYTHING are ludicrously high, and there isn't much worth buying anyway. A small serving platter that would have been no more than $5 a couple of years ago-now $20!!!. Ratty t-shirts selling for way more than they did when they were new. Virtually everything is low quality and grossly overpriced. What a shame that this once stellar thrift shop is no longer worth going to-at all. read more

I asked about a price on an item, owner was rude and arrogant, talked about me, in Spanish to his coworkers , I said I spoke Spanish, he called ME a racist, and told me to get out of the store, he doesn't allow racists in his store. Or is it that he doesn't like old Puerto Rican women, who defend themselves. He separates items and charges extra, like a lid for a pot, instead of a price for both items. I am so sad to leave this review, but I must. I am a very long time customer here in Union, in Watchung and in South Plainfield. I spend hundreds of dollars in each location every month to help the homeless, refugees, etc... I stopped shopping in all three locations last week because there are too many dogs in the store and I have had enough. I have severe asthma and eczema and I cannot be near dogs without becoming ill. It is awful in all three stores now with dogs sitting in carts and roaming the store unattended. It never used to be this way. I was on an aisle in South Plainfield recently when a GIANT Great Dane came up from behind me and started licking me. I ran to the rest room to wash, but I still had an asthma attack and broke out in hives. YES, I have severe allergies, but it should not be this way here with dogs freely roaming, being put in carts to sit on clothing that may end up not even be purchased and put back with dog hair and having had its exposed backside having sat on it. Barking dogs, dogs sniffing and licking customers and merchandise and possibly urinating too is all happening in the three Unique thrift shops that I regularly shopped at. This environment is no longer for me and I have moved onto thrift stores that value ALL customers and their needs. Let the dogs be your customers now and spend as much as I used to spend. read more

Bought a CD Oct.16 2023 and did not check package, when I went to play CD next day there was no CD in Package. I immediately rushed to store where I was told by a Hispanic woman to find another CD, Upon returning to front of store the woman took me to security office where I was told there was nothing could be done, I should have brought it back on day of purchase which I would have if I saw it was missing. It's only a 2 dollar item but it's the principle...it's not my fault the CD was missing. All I wanted was another CD or refund. I work hard for my money for not for Unique to take my money and I have nothing!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! They think these old used items was there's. Bad customer service, ridiculously EXPENSIVE, don't allow you to utilize a cart to bring items to your car making the experience super inconvenient, they yell at you if you try to take an item off a rack that just came out of production. This location sprays Febreze all over the clothing. They'd be fine to just request all donations be clean. If you are sensitive to strong perfume-y smells, this store is the worst. Sadly, can't shop here any more. Too time-consuming and costly to try and remove the perfume smell: baking soda, white vinegar...hot water, cold water...it does. not. come. out. If you wash anything with other clothing, then those things absorb the same smell. I'd give 3 stars for the selection or if you love a Febreze odor??? Prices just ok. This was the first Unique I started going to back in 2011 (Macklemore had just come out with that song lol). Since then, the selection had dwindled, so I've dabbled in other Unique's. From what I've seen, this location (compared to Elizabeth, Watchung, and South Plainfield) has the lowest prices. Before COVID their selection was very slim, particularly in their vintage section, which is the reason I thrift so I would only go if I needed some random item like a basket, or a tin for bobbins. I visited the other day to pick up some blankets for my rescue cats during one of their 50% off sales, and was shocked at how full the racks are, to the BRIM, so if you're looking for winter coats or blankets, definitely check here! They must have so much back stock (which would explain getting alerts about sales every other day). The self-checkouts that all of the stores started using about a year ago are usually the worst at all of the locations (I don't know why they did this), but they had us socially distanced, the bags were on the hooks, and all of the workers were helpful and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the 50% off coupon is now automatic, it's about time! I've seen many angry people pissed at the checkout because they didn't know about the app sign up. I've never personally had issues at this location with rude customers or rude employees. They've actually gone out of their way to help if we'd bought larger items. I never come here to browse anymore, I do my vintage buying online now and at consignment shops, but if I'm looking for some random knick knack like a vase or something seasonal, I check here first! read more

*The following was typed with voice note, please excuse typos.* I was checking out and going to leave the store when a employee pulled me to the side and started to go through all of my bags they unwrapped everything and proceeded to put things aside in a separate cart. The bald manager, whose name I think is Abel came over to me and said, put his camera in my face, took a photo of me and said come to the office right now, so that we can discuss this or something along the lines of that I said, what is there to discuss I did nothing wrong, and he shouted at me and said we can share your business out and embarrass you in front of everyone or we can go to the office I've course was upset and raise my voice and said I didn't do anything. What are you accusing me of and we went into the office where there were many male managers sitting around and he said that there was a cart full of items with tickets that were switched, and that I needed to sign a paper that banned me for three months per cop, company policy, or he would call the cops and have me arrested The items he was claiming had switch tickets were mostly glassware where they were vases that were round and obviously a sticker isn't going to fit flat onto it. One was a suede jacket that had a tag fixed to it with no obvious signs of rips, or that it had been tampered with and one was a cat clock that had to price tags on it one for a lower amount stuck to the front one for a higher amount stuck on the side. I believe that none of those items actually had switched tickets and just because they weren't laying flat or they had pulled up a bit. They were claiming that they were switched also because they were maybe lower prices than what they would have price them for or would have wanted to price them for they were claiming they were switch tickets when in reality I think the people in the back just priced them like that. I told him that I didn't do this. There was a mistake. Can he watch the cameras? How would I know if tickets were switched and he was interrupting me. He wouldn't listen to me. He took a tone with me and said that I signed this or he would call the cops and have me arrested . There were many employees around listening and seeing this whole thing happen no one was saying anything just manager and then I bullied into signing this paper. I was very flustered and obviously he was telling me I was gonna be arrested, so I signed the paper I didn't read it. I just signed it and then I walked out and they said that the cart full of items I know how to pay an adjusted price on based on whatever price they were going to tell me they cost and I said no I don't wanna do that. You're robbing me now these were the tickets on the items you can refund me them because you're not gonna make up random prices and having to pay for them which is what they wanted me to do. A female manager, then walked over and said that they weren't gonna have me pay for everything in the car just two items and that I should disregard everything that happened with the mail manager. They were not going to band me and that she didn't say she was sorry for what happened, but you could tell that she was trying to make up for the fact that this man acted the way that he did, and accuse me of stealing. I paid the adjusted price on the items because I was forced to the difference was $13.The female manager walked over to me before I left and she said she asked me if I was OK and she asked me if I was going to come back to the store and I told her honestly I don't know if I will that that manager was incredibly rude and inappropriate and she asked me to please come back. I am a regular loyal customer. I spent thousands of dollars in the store monthly, and to be accused of some thing without any proof, or without being able to defend myself to be bullied and scared into signing some thing in fear of you know getting the police involved that managers a real asshole. To keep it blunt, don't come to this store; both the staff members and the manager are disgusting brutes. I have visited this store for the past 2 years with no complaints till now. Earlier today, I came over to get a jacket and to my surprise, they have two of the same jackets with different sizes. As I was about to pay for my jacket, I noticed that I picked the wrong size and decided to come back to get the jacket that I wanted. As I was going to pay for my jacket, one of the staff members stopped me and took me into a security office, accusing me of switching the tags of both jackets. The only evidence that they claimed was that the tag of the jacket I was going to pay for had a slightly bigger hole than normal; despite the tag still being attached to the jacket. I tried multiple times to explain my side of the story but they wouldn't listen to me. As I was taking my id out for verification, the manager ripped my wallet out of my hand and threw it across the table. They tried to make me sign a form in which it states that I am to be banned from entering the store for 3 months, in addition to getting my drivers license information. I tried to tell the staff that I won't sign the paper but they kept on saying they will call the police on me if I don't do as they say. We went back and forth and I was very adamant that I want the police officers involved because I did nothing wrong. After a while, I caved in and signed the papers, not wanting any more trouble than there already was. Just when I thought I was going to leave the store, they tried to make me pay for the same jacket for twice the price than originally posted. If I didn't do it, they would call the cops on me. The audacity for the manager to coerce me to pay twice for a jacket so that I wouldn't get criminally charged is inhumane and a criminal act. The staff members were watching all the events unfold and one of them tried to convince me to pay for the overpriced jacket by saying, "He's giving you a chance man, just do it." The gall for the staff members for thinking that my treatment throughout the whole ordeal was justifiable is insane. I refused to pay for it and after a huge argument, the manager simply just kicked me out. For the people wanting to shop here, it's not worth your time. In addition to the terrible treatment I received, their product management is scummy. Some jackets off the rack would cost 60 to 100 dollars to buy. In addition to this, some of the high demand items, like nikes and vintage shirts, would be put behind the counter and charge crazy prices for them. Thrift stores are meant to be affordable for people that are less fortunate to buy. This is not a thrift store; it is a consignment shop. They do not want to provide for you; rather they want to make huge profits for themselves in which they are extremely unashamed of. There are two thrift stores in Union which not only have quality goods but are cheap and affordable as well. One is Inspirations at Stuyvesant Avenue; it's been in Unions since I was a kid and it's one of the best local spots for 2nd hand goods. Another one is 2nd Avenue at Morris Avenue. Even though it's more corporate than local, the staff members are always helpful. If you're reading this, please go to the other two stores I mentioned. They are far more worth your money than My Unique on Route 22. Don't be fooled by the 3.8 stars on Google; look up the latest reviews of the store and you'll see it's consistent with what I have said so far. As for me, I'm not writing this just to complain. They have both my identity and signature recorded which worries me. I fear that the manager is going to press criminal charges on me for the event that transpired today. I'm using this review, not only as evidence, but to explain my point of view in case it happens. It was already humiliating enough being judged by random customers but everybody watched as the staff members treated me less than a criminal; they treated me like a rabid dog. Consumers you are being warned. A thrift store is a store selling second hand items which most people expect to purchase at a discount. My Unique website indicates: "customers find quality brands at the lowest prices" in my experience- THIS IS A LIE. I have been shopping at this store since it first opened years ago and have watched the prices of items start out as affordable prices to prices that are now approximately 50% - 100% higher then what they used to be since the store's popularity has grown. Some of the prices are higher then the store the item was originally purchased from. Let me elaborate. I was in the store a few days ago for their 50% off sale which they have approximately once a week. I found a dress which was brand new and had original tags on it from Marshall's. Marshall's typically has "Comparison pricing" so the consumer knows he/she is getting a bargain, therefore the tag on the dress indicated "Compare at $30.00" and below that was Marshall's genuine price. What Unique employees usually do when they have a new item with tags is, they leave the tags on except if the item has a clearance tag or has a SALE tag from the original store. Unique will then rip the red tag off, or cut off the sales tag so the higher price will be displayed and their store can get double or triple what the original store was charging so in the case of the Marshall's dress. Marshall's was charging less then $30.00 - (perhaps 20-50% less then the COMPARE TO price) but Unique was charging the full $30.00. I'm sure the Unique employee who unintentionally missed the "Compare at" pricing method Marshall's usually indicates on their tag in his/her quest to get the biggest buck at the expense of the average thrift store shopper. The worst part is: THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS while I'm shopping at this store. I'm through with Unique. I mean- I'm through with being scammed, lied to, mislead and deceived thinking I'm getting a bargain but most of the time I'm not. If anyone chooses to shop there despite my dire warning, you'll want to know: There is ample parking. Be prepared to walk quite a ways though on their 50% off sale days which are always quite hectic. You may only take 3 items in a dressing room at a time so on their 50% off days - you should be prepared for a very long line and a very long wait. The employees are not very helpful. My impression is that most are not too happy with working there. Quite a bit of them don't understand English. I do not recommend this place. read more

The night prior, I purchased a dress but left without noticing the black alarm sensor on it. I went back the next morning shortly after they opened to ask for them to remove it. They told me they couldn't because I didn't have a receipt and I could've stolen the dress. I was bothered by this accusation but went to my car and found the receipt and showed it to them. They then refused to take the alarm off because they said the dress didn't have the price tag and that I needed the price tag along with the receipt. I told them that was ridiculous because I had the proof of my purchase with the receipt. I asked to speak to a manager and this Hispanic guy came out after having to wait almost 20 minutes and told me there was nothing he could do and for me to wait for the other manager. When the other manager came I showed my receipt and explained the situation. He told me that even though I had the receipt he doesn't know if its the same dress because it didn't have the tag attached to it. I drove all the way home got the tag and went back to show him and he STILL refused to take it off and threatened to call the cops in me for causing a disturbance. Found a piece of audio equipment that was labeled $8 and at checkout, while being rushed out, the item was taken away and we were accused of switching tags because someone else had done so prior but told us it should've been in a case when it was marked $60. The experience of this store is negative owing to a handful of very rude young Hispanic men who are managers or mid level managers at this store. They are always at the checkout area. One in particular intentionally ignores me like I don't exist when I ask him to see jewelry in the jewelry cases while intentionally letting me know he hates Caucasians like me by helping brown people at the jewelry area who I was ahead of. After spending almost $300 and an hour in this store, once I checked out I had to go the another counter for alarms to be taken off my item as I proceeded to exist, myself and my friend were pulled aside, my friend was taken into the office and I was brought to the side were all of the items I bought were taken out of my bag and cart and checked against my receipt. the worker would not tell me why he was checking my stuff and said that the manager would let me know. the manager came back was dismissive, rude, unprofessional, condescending (and every other adjective you can think of). this was my first visit to this store and certainly my LAST. The level of unprofessionalism is horrible. I should have read the reviews before going, but never thought that a place this unprofessional would be in business, or being manage by someone like the man that said he was the manager. There are better thrift stores out there, 2nd Avenue Thrift in is the same area and they have real customer service oriented staff. My advise is that the prices are not that great so don't shop there and you should not be subjected to the level of rudeness my friend and I experienced yesterday. read more

I go to this Unique as well as the one in Watchung. I find this one a bit more convenient and it has more parking space than the other. I also find the layout is alittle less confusing. At this location you can see the electronics and other high end items laid out when you walk in. There are more fitting rooms and I find the prices are slightly better tagged here. All the cashiers aren't always open at this location though slowing things down when the big crowds come, and the crowd control is not as good. The selection is nice though and I usually find exactly what I'm looking for at this location. It's also convenient when I have other stops to make here, including the recently opened shoprite across the lot. There seems to be a more room at this Unique which is helpful when trying to navigate already packed isles. read more
