Over the past 2-3 years I have had great experience bringing beautiful crystal, china, etc. on consignment to Home Again, and was always welcome. 99% would sell well. If something was below the shop standard they simply mentioned it and I kept it for donation. I have enjoyed going to also get out of my Covid zone last year! My time with Kathy has always been a very positive experience. Recently I had 5 boxes but was not sure it was up to their standard, I emailed Kathy all the item pictures, she thanked me but they were not to standard as I had guessed, I did not have to drive there. I dropped the content to the VNA sale in FarHills for Morristown Medical Center. Kathy told me she was looking forward when I would go again. The store has no ethical value nor customer loyalty. They are only interested in making sale and moving on no matter what it takes. Not a trusty worthy business I will ever spend a dime in again. I would not recommend buying or selling any furniture pieces from this store. Their business model is not sustainable. read more

Love this place! Cynthia and Kathy are delightful and so warm. This store is a hidden gem with a LOT OF CHARACTER which is a testament to the owners. My husband and I called them to see if they had the exact size love seat we were aiming for before we made the effort to drive over. Cynthia spent the time with me on the phone to go over her inventory and the prices. We decided to show because she said regardless they had a lot of nice things. We found EXACTLY what we needed and then some. Our living room is adorable now and I have to refrain myself from going back to this shop too soon because I'll max out my cc. Spent $1500 for a love seat and two upholstered COMFY paisley chairs. This set would have easily cost $3000+ Yay! read more

Truly an unpleasant experience at this shop, so much so I am compelled to write this review and hopefully save others the misfortune that we encountered with the ownership of this store- clearly people that genuinely lack basic customer service skills and choose to be unwilling to make an reasonable accomdation/be flexible and would prefer to lose a local resident as a customer for life. My wife found a set of chairs that she liked, paid over $1000 for them and upon getting them home realized they simply don't work for the space. She returned to the shop within an hour of the purchase to see if they would consider accepting them as a returns, even offering a restocking fee but the store clerk pointed to the "no returns" sign and was rudely dismissive. They ultimately agreed to try to resell them and give us pennies on the dollar if they sold. Congrats to the ownership of this store- you won a free $1000+ for doing nothing, but you lost the opportunity of ever getting any future business from this former customer, or anyone in our network. First and foremost I want to say that if you ever need anything this place and people are the best ever. I have personally known Kathy and her family for almost 20 years . Her business ethic is like no other and will go above and beyond for anyone .. it breaks my heart to see someone write a bad review about them that most definitely is untrue ! We are in the middle of a world pandemic and unfortunately things are out of her control or anyone's for that matter!! I have been shopping with Home Again Design since 2010. The quality is consistently high and as I write this, I am looking at a mahogany breakfast table, Waterford goblets and two rugs I scored at HAD. I have consigned items and was treated in a businesslike way. I liked it. No emotion, no fuss: yes to this item, no to that item. The consignment agreement (which is on the web site, btw) plainly states that items not picked up after the 12 week selling period become the property of HAD. So I am mystified at the other reviews. A consignor should pick up his/her items or expect them to be forfeited. That is the deal. Anyway,I am off to Summit again today with two hooked rugs and a lot of crystal, hoping to consign. Today I went to a consignment shop in Summit. I brought designer and signed home accessories: silver; grand crystal pieces; hand blown antique glasses; some furniture, etc. I wanted to see how I would do with these items as this was my first time working with the shop, before bringing in my extremely valuable items and jewelry. Having owned a high end consignment shop myself from 1991 to 2007; and being an appraiser/estate liquidator, I know valuable merchandise. I unpacked my items and most of them were rejected by the owner. That is fine by me. One wants a certain look in their store. What I didn't like was the way I was treated. ....very rudely. She said to me and my husband: "I don't want to be bothered with that stuff!' in her southern; aloof accent/demeanor. When a person is like that, I know I am not the only one being treated in the manner she presented. When I had my shops...I only treated my consignors and customers with respect and kindness. It is not what you say or reject, it is the manner in which you do so. I don't know how folks like this stay in business. In my 62 years of life I have come to realize that folks who treat people/customers/consignors in that manner are the most insecure; miserable people with more problems than we would like to know. I walked out like a lady; said thank you; knowing I would never return to her store again. It is her loss. She has no idea that I liquidate; and appraise multi million dollar estates. God does have a way of humbling these folks. We are not greater or better than another; and nor should one act that way. Her aloofness and rudeness to me was reflective of how she feels about herself. I would say that is pretty bad. Thank God that I don't have to resort to those mannerisms. On the way home, we stopped by a donation only resale shop and donated all the rejects. They were thrilled! I never saw anyone go through all the boxes and bins so fast! Nice enough people on the outset, poor follow up and lack of care. Good selection from wealthy surrounding neighborhoods. Questionable pricing abilities with poor business practice. Consigned 6 cow hide rugs with real silver filigree. No follow up except emails not received. No phone calls. Poor service in order to return unsold rugs. $999 each, sold 2 $420. Believe good business practice would include a few phone calls and more attempts made to return goods. Why in the world would she believe I would not want these items back? Told they were "donated"... for zero dollars? Find it hard to believe. Donated to friends, family, self or staging realtors. Borderline theft. Consignment shops do not have to hold things longer than the agreed 90 days however poor customer relations. Too bad I come from a 7 figure earning household with a primary residence, a cabin and a beach house. Many other items would have been consigned as I am also an interior designer. Loss of potential future business and reputation all for a rash decision to not pick up the phone and realize email is not always reliable. Go above and beyond when owning your own business. Not so busy clienteling luxury books cannot be handled by sales asssociates. Invest time into producing more profit. I will share my thoughts with those I meet, know within the business, my Facebook page and blog spot and will not return. What comes around goes around. One poor experience leads to many turned off customers. Instead of defensive excuses and an offer of a tax write off which everyone knows is capped at $1000 (we reach this every year already)...wish her response would have been one of remorse...how can I make it better...while you return...and not defensive its your fault my poor business beliefs exist...too bad so sad...no time for customer appreciation or investment in good business practice. Left a bad taste in my mouth and hope others will think twice with such a sad attitude. I can only hope good old fashioned American competition weeds out these inferior businesses over time! Great opportunities exist in this niche for others that are talented with design and hold business know how centered on interpersonal people relationships that are functional and not borderline greed centered! One must ask often when owing a business...how do I want my customers to perceive me? Perception is reality and yes real people, your customers, pay the bills so who is typically right and receive service? Tow types of business exist...service and product. You are in the service industry (Apple for example is product). Therefore, your number one priority should be how to service your clients and not your self. I was respectful, 3 minute conversation however I will absolutely make it an effort to share my opinion with as many people as possible. One bad review can lead a huge loss of business as I would have purchased from her as well. It takes 12 positive experiences listed here to make up for one poor rating. With positive experience the typical shopper spends 20-40% more. I am currently staging a 7 bedroom house on Upper Mountain in Montclair. What you don't know can hurt your business. It is 6-7 times more expensive to acquire a new customer than cater to existing. For every one complaint 26 keep their mouths shut. 7-10 customers spend more just for services rendered. Many times in our culture its one shot and your done. I am grateful I am in the position to spend more for service and quality just like I would guess many in your stores location are as well. As you know those that can afford more typically expect more. I have feeling you will not take this as a learning on how to improve and conduct a better business model but will sadly reimain a right fighter with an attitude of I told you so. Every customer (internal and external) should be treated with the utmost respect and there are exceptions to every rule. All these statistics are available with a simple google search. Facts that should make a responsible business owner think twice. One thing I love about the Northease is all the small business owners, for those of you who aren't aware other parts of the country are much more corporately driven. One thing I find annoying is all the small business owners that frankly shouldn't be. Happy Holidays...this is the time of year to be in the black hence Black Friday.
