I took my mtg fan of a son there and he instantly fell in love with it it was the first time he's ever been to a card/board game shop. There were people playing mtg and other games that i don't know. Customer service is a 11/10! The man behind the counter was very friendly and inviting! Asked me if he could help me find what I was looking for and I was stunned by the level of organization from this card shop. The prices of the cards I asked about are very reasonable and competitively priced. I almost walked out with a whole bunch but I didn't have too much time on my hands. A bit tricky to find and they didn't have much of a Pokemon selection. Parking is kind of a hassle as the lot is always seemingly so busy. Understandable that they don't really have much packs given the shortages, but some individual cards for sale would be nice. My 9 year old grandson and I went in here today to look for some pokemon cards and we asked if he had any Pokemon cards. He said he was completely sold out. My grandson innocently ask "not even one pack" and he replied to my grandson "can I be any more clear"!!! I was shocked at his reaponse and replied, is that how you talk to the kids that come in here. Stay away from this store, the guy was a complete jerk and had a big attitude on top of that. As a beginning Magic player, I found this store really useful and friendly. I've bought big boxes of common/uncommon cards, booster packs, deck boxes, and individual cards here. Reuben and Dalton have always been generous with their time and advice. If I had to list a downside, it's that the restroom is not easy to get to; you have to get a key and go outside the store, and navigate a set of turns to find it. read more

This place is a bit tucked away. My friends had a tough time finding it while we were wandering around Santa Cruz. That being said, if you really like games, you will love this place. They have something for everyone here. If you host game nights this is a definitely a place you want to stop into. The staff seemed pretty knowledgeable. You can spend a good chunk of time looking at all of the various games. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well. Now that I know how to get here, I would probably stop in here again if I were looking for a certain game. read more

Mythic Games is a great place to play in tournaments for MTG and War Hammer. It can be hard to find a pace to sit for free-play when there is a tournament going on. The prices for singles and booster packs are on the pricy side, but there is a good selection for Standard for a small shop. The owner is in-store most evenings and is knowledgeable in MTG. Really enjoy playing at Mythic! Usually Draft on Fridays or Saturdays and the crowd and staff are all very welcoming. The one thing I will say is that prices on Magic The Gathering singles seem a little steeper here than say Channel Fireball but I also hate driving up to SJ so it's not a huge deal. This is the santa cruz place to get your gaming nerd on. There have some designated parking close by the store in the surface parking lot associated with the strip mall they are located in. Be warned however that most of the parking in that lot is "owned" by the trader joe's and parking in the wrong space for more then two hours can get you into trouble. Cars will get towed upon occasion so check your spot carefully for signage. When in doubt check with the staff and of course if you chose either of the two nearby (paid) parking garages this will not apply. Regrettably parking in this part of santa cruz is always at a premium. Mythic games is a meduim to largish store with most of the space dedicated to gameplay. Sure they sell or can order pretty much everything the hobby gamer could be interested in-miniatures, books, decks, paints and general advice and guidance, but the true strength here is providing a space for the gaming community to play, even there is a heavy magic focus. In spite of that it's still a pretty decent place.They also do warhammer in addition to magic for the most part although every once in awhile they'll have a retro DND, Twilight 2000, or Space Hulk throw in-usually on Tuesdays. Never heard of those? Well all I can say is GET OFF MY LAWN YOU KIDS er, I mean they are totally retro. Also pretty fun. Tons of great miniature game play on tap in addition to a lot of tournament play as well, should you be so inclined. Bonus points awarded for being THE place to hang out and game. read more

This place is horrible and should be closed, people are rude, place is trash, they have no knowledge about magic period and only look to rip people off, make sure you ask to see their screen because their "store credit percentage is a joke and a scam until you point it out. Store is filthy with used brushes and crap all over the place. Not only that they refuse to look stuff up if it interrupted their friendly game time in store(which is against the law at the moment) I suggest they close down before they get fined. Why be so rude to kids when you bring them in? This store is getting worse and worse and more are moving to other locations to get away from these tabletop killers. read more

I went in here looking for card sleeves. As soon as I walked in the employee was joking around with his friends and cursing very loudly. I don't know if they were drinking but it sounded like they were. When I asked them if they had the sleeves I was looking for he said no. That they did but not for sale. And then he said he could order them for me but shipping would take a week. I could order them from eBay and get them here less than that. I wouldn't have minded so much that they didn't have them but the way he acted and cursed profanities was inexcusable. Never coming here again. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

Poor customer service. I've been in there a few times and one time the owner was too busy to negotiate the sale of one of his more expensive cards (Time Walk). I followed up with a phone call and the owner was still indisposed. Who is too busy to make a 700$ sale? I ordered one from TCG at a good price and better condition. Another time, I spent 125$ on some singles and packs. After the transaction was complete I asked for a bag and the employee said they cost 10¢. I said, "really?" He said "city ordinance". I pointed out that I just spent 125$ and asked if he could be lenient this one time. He said "no it's a city ordinance". Really?! What's gonna happen, the bag police shut down Mythic Games? I cannot see a 10¢ bag being worth the price of an unhappy customer. Here is a place that has the Santa Cruz gaming market cornered and acts as if they don't need their customers. They are organized and have good inventory but would substantially increase their sales if they had a better customer service policy. They go by Channel Fireball or TCG pricing and are not easily swayed to negotiate a price better than their competition over the hill. I say order from TCG or Channel Fireball, get a better price and wait 2 days for it to show up in your mailbox. read more

Mythic games has become the best game store in Santa Cruz county. If MTG is your thing you can easily find friendly games at all hours of the day, all the way to pro-level players at the Mythic tournaments. They stock the latest releases & more (last time I checked they had Japanese & Chinese versions of the latest release.) They are also the place to go to sell your cards & pick up that special card you've been looking for. There is a huge selection of cards for whatever deck you're building, but it's not limited to the mundane; want an 'Ancestral recall' or 'time walk'? Mythic has you covered. The biggest changes in the past few months have been the expansion into miniature gaming, (which has already overtaken the level & stock of other SC county stores) focused but not limited to Games Workshop's 40k & Fantasy lines. When it became clear that gamers needed more space to play these new games the new owner rented out the neighboring retail space & then breeched the wall creating a huge space for more gaming. He's also installed a big display case for some beautifully painted armies and terrain (in addition to the store armies & terrain that were already available). If you're passing through it's worth it to take a peek at what's on display, there's some awesome work in that case. Expect to see other classics stocked at the store as well, like Battletech core sets, mini's, & expansions, as well as the latest challengers like Dropzone commander. The store is just getting better & better. There's a good selection of RPG books, and regularly meeting groups that play everything from D&D to Cthulhu. Another thing that sets this store apart is the dedication & responsiveness of the owner to the customer's needs. Recently the WFB people started up a Mordheim league and needed more terrain to improve the game, Mythic delivered with hundreds of dollars of GW fantasy terrain less than a week later.When customers wanted to improve their painting Mythic hosted MrJustin from Secret weapon miniatures for a day long workshop & started carrying pigments in addition to their hobby selection. Speaking of which they have a good selection of customization pieces as well, Scibor to Hightech miniatures, you'll be surprised at what you'll find on their walls. Mythic's store is safe, and the staff is another strong point, friendly and welcoming to all ages! If you have a question they can help you and if you're looking for that odd game they can get it ordered for you. There's always some people playing MTG with drafts/tournaments multiple times a week There's large groups for WFB Mondays, Board game Tuesdays, RPG Wednesdays, 40k Thursdays. I like this game store a lot, and find the service, selection, and friendliness of the staff (especially the owner) to be good. If they don't have something in stock, the owner can usually get it. They are also welcoming of people using their space for gaming as well as their terrain, and since I'm mainly a miniature gamer (40K, etc.) this is a big reason why I try to support them with my gaming purchases. read more

Awesome place ALWAYS. Atmosphere is cool since it's been open. Walked in today after a couple months and the employee was eating at a table with his dog (thought he was a guest to be honest). Walked up to the counter and he slumbered around. I asked him to grab a list on my phone which he said I needed to write it down (not an issue although I've left a device with an employee in the past). I proceeded to create my order after a moment he said in a relatively rude manner "if it's a deck it takes a day". Normally I wouldn't care, that makes sense but it was the tone and the fact that NO ONE WAS IN THE SHOP BESIDES ME and my friends. Again POOR SERVICE. I never complain but this encounter alone will cause me to go to legends in the mall from now on... Wayyyyy out of my way but friendly. read more

Mythic is the perfect game store. There is plenty of other stock, but I'm going to address Magic, because that's all I really know about. Their selection of cards rivals most of the big online retailers I've dealt with. The staff are gaming experts and will help you with deck ideas, tuning, even more economical ways to accomplish your goals. Everyone who works here is super-friendly and never pushy. There is actually a sense of community here - there are fun holiday events, local game makers are invited to demo their games, even birthdays are sometimes celebrated. Even the caliber of player is high - everyone I've played against has been fair and courteous. There is some sort of organized play every day, as well as plenty of space for free play. While wargaming and collectable card games are their primary focus, Mythic has been quite responsive to my needs. When they didn't have a specific RPG book I wanted, they ordered it for me and followed up to let me know when it arrived. That level of professionalism sets them apart from the local competition. Mythic is a very welcoming place. I've never encountered the sort of clannish "insiders only" attitude that permeates some game stores. I've brought my two young boys in with me on several occasions and never felt like they were out of place. The only thing that would make Mythic better for me would be a broader selection, but that's really only an issue in situations where I need a specific product immediately. read more

a friend and I pre-paid for the battle of zendikar prerelease and planned out entire sunday around the 6pm event. well, apparently they sold out their prerelease packs and the event didn't happen. what is honestly the point of pre-paying for an event if management of the store can't even figure out how to ration out their allotted product? we got our refund, which is swell, but as my friend and I walked to the register some random kids said "they do this every prerelease." As far as I am concerned that is unacceptable. As a person who takes classes at cabrillo, and works full time I could never trust this local game store with my time ever again. I'm sure your FNM's are great, the price on packs are cool, and mythic's monthly calendar is overflowing with events, but this store lacked the freaking decency to figure out a way to contact me that THEY FUCKED UP and overbooked their event's which I had paid for in advance. Consider that if they had contacted me sooner I could have found a prerelease event somewhere else, or at least went to Legends in capitola mall for their event. seriously, I took off early from work just to have these people waste my time............. read more
