This place is fantastic. They're the one stop shop for all your musical needs. They are a small, locally owned business (which is a plus), and yet they still have more relevant products in stock than Long & McQuade. I needed to have a pickup installed on my Martin Backpacker. L&M couldn't do it, but Mhyre's could, and they even had the right kind of pickup in stock. Also, they have beautiful used instruments at great prices. This is my favourite music shop. My only complaint is that it's not closer to my house. read more

Do you like playing guitars, violins, or any instrument dealing with strings? I'm gonna be honest, I don't play music instruments myself. I'm just here to visit with a friend. Staff is friendly and easily helped us find the right strings for my friend's convenience. This place is like the gold mine for many stringed instruments. They carry lesson books, and possibly repairs or tuning if needed. Teaching you may need to call and ask. There is plenty of supplies and tools for whatever purpose you may need for guitars and such. What intrigued me most was the unique designs of guitars they carry. See photos. Parking is found at the side of the building, small parking lot. I will recommend this place to friends and if your a musician string player looking for replacements or tune ups this place is a good choice. read more

I had my acoustic guitar repaired. It had a split in the wood, even though I've used a variety of humidifiers, the cumulative affect of dry winters did its damage. They did a fantastic job and you would never know that the split was there. Reasonably priced too. I've purchased instruments at Myhre's, I've had a set up and fret job done on an electric guitar and now this repair on my acoustic. FIVE stars every time! This is the place to go for acoustic stringed instruments and is a beloved fixture in Edmonton. It seems like Byron Myhre (Alphie's son) is always there, and he is quick to share his passion for making music and passing it along. He spent quite a while with us explaining the difference between banjos. During our most recent trip to demo upright basses, they gave us plenty of time and privacy to try out what they had in stock without feeling like we needed to have serious chops before touching the gear. They know their stock very well and are very interested in giving very good value for their product/prices. The love of music is apparent in all of the staff and they are well connected in the local music community. They were quick to prove several referrals for local and very well known teachers and also sell instruments on consignment. read more

Alfie Myhre, who owns the store, is an accomplished bluegrass musician and super nice guy who really cares about his customers. My grade 12 graduation present was a twelve-string acoustic guitar from Myhre's Music and I remember how Mr. Myhre helped me make the right choice of instrument and made sure I was happy before I left the store. I got it in my head that I wanted a tenor ukulele. I walked in the door and was greeted by a friendly, kind gentleman who helped me select different styles. I told him I was a newbie and still learning and he was Happy to let me try out any that I wanted, playing along with me to hear the real tone of the different brands. He was very patient with me and I hummed and hawed over the Zebrawood or the Mahogany. I chose a lovely Kala mahogany one with a fancy high gloss. I love it! As I was being rung up, another man on staff commended me on my selection. I explained that I was new to ukes and he picked up my tenor and played a heartwarming 'O Danny Boy' and I knew I made the right choice. Beautiful to know what my new instrument can do in skilled hands. Very inspirational. The prices, I noticed, were incredibly reasonable for the quality instruments in the clean little shop. Myhre's has a warm and inviting atmosphere where customers are invited to look around, try out instruments, flip through the books and ask questions. Sadly, my experiences with Myhre's have been awful. To give them credit, If you're looking at getting a guitar fixed, or doing some acoustic music as a hobby, this store will meet your needs. They're polite and kind people, have a wide selection of products, and will help you through your purchase process. However, If you are looking for an upright bass repair, please stay away! as well if you play other wooden carved instrument. (violin, cello, etc.) They charge a hefty price, for absolute crap work. They do not understand climatization of wood, canadian seasons, and what a gigging musician is looking for in a repair in this climate. My upright bass experience: Go in to have a crack repaired on the front of my bass, agree on the cost, give the instruction to take more time if needed to complete the job well, they give me a guarantee that the cracked location that they fix, will not crack there again. (if it does, they will fix it for me right away, as they didn't do their job well enough) Pick it up, look it over, it looks okay. Travel back to home town, the crack is already giving flex, and was not properly sealed. Called about this, got confirmation on the phone that they will fix their mistake. Bring it in for the second time. Need it repaired within the week (it's a 4 hour max repair). They finally fix it 3 and half weeks later, pick it up. They did a rush job, glued stain dripped on the interior, the side they needed to open looks like it got completely mangled, not at all good, and the crack once again is already giving flex (they did not seal it again) In the store they're looking at charging me once again for a already paid ($350) repair, that they didn't fix properly. They try to play the guilt game by talking about how much time and effort they put into the repair (much less than the first time) Not paying when they should have done it right the first time, and did a horrible job the second. So leave Myher's music, angry, $350 dollars shorter, with a rush "repair job" that ruined the aesthetics on my bass, and put pressure on another point on the body leading it to crack once again. DO NOT GO HERE FOR BASS REPAIR. read more

I had went in to buy strings for my new violin, and they helped me find the best quality rosin and strings for my price range and even tuned and installed the strings for me, as well as put stickers on the finger board to help me self teach. Would totally go back! read more

I am a beginner violin adult student, after one year with a rental I wanted one of my own. I asked around and the name Myhre's kept coming up. I am not qualified in any way to pick out a violin for myself, I was worried that I would be disappointed with a purchase and suffer buyers remorse. Not to worry, I was in good hands from start to finish, I was very candid about my inexperience and my hopes of finding a pretty good violin to grow with. In my price range 5 violins were selected and played for me over and over until the sound of the Scott Cao Soil just won me over. I also purchased a bow and case, I walked out of the store with such a good feeling,that feeling has not worn off. I have the violin that I so hoped for and because of the help I received at Myhre's I will always have a great memory of how my violin and I found each other.
