About 6 months ago I had Doc refret my 2004 Strat Deluxe with stainless steel frets and his work and care was immaculate. Any guitar player knows getting new frets is akin to heart surgery and rather than risk a botch job I used to drive my guitar down to a tech in Calgary who I trusted. Doc has replaced that tech for me. The other day I had him install a new tusque nut and replace the SI pot on my Strat. I needed it for the weekend and he did all the work that day - wonderful! Staff at the store is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

My problem with the place is with the music school. I signed up for five private lessons. On the 4th, I had to call in sick 5 hours prior. End of the month I found out that it was a missed appointment and I would not receive any more until I paid up for another month. I didn't like this. If you're sick then you'd still better go or you'll lose $60. After some back and forth, they did finally offer the lesson but by then I was not interested and did forfeit the lesson. Don't pay 1 month in advance. Besides that, you may not like the instructor.

As soon as he was done, he came and showed me some guitars, let me try them out, gave me some advice, and then gave me some space to think about it. He was the perfect amount of helpful without pressuring me. They also have electric guitars, keyboards, and all sorts of recording equipment. I have had such mediocre experiences with the chain music stores lately, I'm glad this local business is still around. I did some quick googling, and the prices are very competitive with the bigger stores too. All in all, a very positive and informative visit. I think I've found the guitar I want! I highly recommend checking them out.

The person who books lessons is Jenn, she's really friendly and from what I can tell she works hard to meet your needs. I also happen to take my vocal lessons with her. She personalizes your lessons and really works to make you happy and to get a great sound coming from you. I'm a female vocalist in a metal band, and she's really helped me find an edge in my voice and connect with my pipes. In talking with a few of the other teachers there, they do lessons from beginner all the way to college/university prep. The staff are all very friendly and very knowledgable about their product, and they're really great at making you feel at ease if you entered the store as someone like me (knowing I wanted to start playing accoustic guitar, but knowing nothing about them.) They have a lots of entry level guitars, basses, and amps, but they also have lots of really nice stuff for a seasoned player. My husband has been playing bass since he was 15 and loves the selection of gear that they have, and he often wanders in there just to "talk shop" with the employees. Overall, if you're someone who wants to get into the music, or you have a kid who wants to start playing an instrument, I really recommend the music lessons, or just popping in and having a chat with anyone behind the desk. They have a selection of pianos featuring Kawai including some baby grands and uprights. They have a small selection of guitars and bass guitars. They have accessories for pretty much any instrument you can think of. They had a couple drum kits on display. They even had some bongos and African drums. This shop is a lot bigger than their old location on Stony Plain Road several years ago. They offer lessons and also have a school band loan program.

Gordon Price Music also provides workshops from notable presenters on music book lines, music theory and other topics of interest. If you're a member or a teacher and are on their mailing list you'll be made aware of when these take place. Not only does Gordon Price sell music, but also great teaching aids and musical novelty items, which is great for anyone musical in your life. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about music - go figure - and are always there to lend a hand. I've called ahead and asked for books to be held for me which they've done without hesitation. That alone makes me return on a regular basis for my teaching materials.
