My problem with the place is with the music school. I signed up for five private lessons. On the 4th, I had to call in sick 5 hours prior. End of the month I found out that it was a missed appointment and I would not receive any more until I paid up for another month. I didn't like this. If you're sick then you'd still better go or you'll lose $60. After some back and forth, they did finally offer the lesson but by then I was not interested and did forfeit the lesson. Don't pay 1 month in advance. Besides that, you may not like the instructor.

Any guitar player knows getting new frets is akin to heart surgery and rather than risk a botch job I used to drive my guitar down to a tech in Calgary who I trusted. Doc has replaced that tech for me. The other day I had him install a new tusque nut and replace the SI pot on my Strat. I needed it for the weekend and he did all the work that day - wonderful! Staff at the store is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

If you're a member or a teacher and are on their mailing list you'll be made aware of when these take place. Not only does Gordon Price sell music, but also great teaching aids and musical novelty items, which is great for anyone musical in your life. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about music - go figure - and are always there to lend a hand. I've called ahead and asked for books to be held for me which they've done without hesitation. That alone makes me return on a regular basis for my teaching materials.

I received it, it had never even been opened to view the battery chamber- as the screw to the battery chamber was bent all to hell, unusable- more surprises awaited! The posts of two of the knobs were also bent out of shape and the selectors pointed to one thing but did another, which, if anyone had tested it would immediately notice, as I did, that is was damaged in many ways. Then I am told I have 30 days to return it, no extra store credit offered, or maybe they could extend that return window a smidge because I'm 200 Km away... I have dropped over 3 grand at L and M over the years (30 years) and that's the last cent of mine they will see. 10/10 for sleaze.

I stopped into Lillo's Music today before seeing a Fringe show…read more I took piano lessons, but it's been years since I sat at a piano, however I've recently been watching music theory videos on YouTube, so I thought I'd stop in and see what they had for theory books. I was greeted right away and was shown the section of theory books. There was a variety to choose from, but I went with the Elementary Rudiments of Music by Barbara Wharram because it had some of the basics to refresh my memory, but also seems to go into theory topics I never got to in my piano studies like modes and transposition. I also browsed their guitar books and picked up a basics (because I have a guitar but haven't taken lessons). Aside from books they do have actual musical instruments, and I understand they do repairs as well. Lillo's Music will be closing in December (their music school will stay open though) so if you're looking to get some sheet music or buy an instrument make sure to stop by soon.

I was able to improve its condition after leaving this shop with a quick bath and brush. These people have NO idea how to clean a horn. Don't trust them with your instrument!

I have brought a sax, clarinet and trumpet in and their work and service has been fantastic. The trumpet in particular was in bad shape. After years of neglect followed by 15 years in storage we were not even able to remove the mouthpiece let alone depress the valves. They estimated a week and a certain price. One week later it plays like a dream, looks better than ever and was $15 under the estimate.

It's like spending time in your cool uncle's attic. There's a separate room for acoustic guitars and another one which stores amplifiers. I was there for a clinic (musicians don't like to say "lesson" so they call it a clinic) where a professional musician stops by to give tips, tricks, and advice. Admission was $10 but tickets were good for $10 off a purchase of $25 or more that night. After the clinic I moved upward to Narnia to scope out a guitar I had my eye on. Axe's website had it listed on sale for $419 (marked down from $479). Imagine my surprise when I saw that the store had it on clearance for $324! Moral of the story?: Clearance prices apparently aren't posted online; you'll have to kick it old-school and actually haul ass into the store to see if there's a deal to be had. (Or maybe just call them.) I asked the sales guy, Coltan, if I would still get the $10 off since the guitar was on clearance. He seemed a little confused. I explained the promotion. He said no one told him about a discount for participants of the clinic. Ya gotta love it when management doesn't pass info on to their employees. This is where the talking animals could have been useful; they could relay information between management and staff. He told me that clearance items generally aren't subject to discounts anyway but he threw in a free patch cable. These generally cost around $10 anyway, so it's all good. He boxed the guitar up for me and I was on my way. Downstairs has rooms devoted to drums and keyboards as well neither of which I play so I didn't go into those. Axe Music doesn't just sell musical instruments. They have a crazy selection of DJ gear too. There is a whole room downstairs filled with mixers, turntables, road cases, etc. They also offer regular music lessons for guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums for $13 per half hour.
