As soon as he was done, he came and showed me some guitars, let me try them out, gave me some advice, and then gave me some space to think about it. He was the perfect amount of helpful without pressuring me. They also have electric guitars, keyboards, and all sorts of recording equipment. I have had such mediocre experiences with the chain music stores lately, I'm glad this local business is still around. I did some quick googling, and the prices are very competitive with the bigger stores too. All in all, a very positive and informative visit. I think I've found the guitar I want! I highly recommend checking them out.

My problem with the place is with the music school. I signed up for five private lessons. On the 4th, I had to call in sick 5 hours prior. End of the month I found out that it was a missed appointment and I would not receive any more until I paid up for another month. I didn't like this. If you're sick then you'd still better go or you'll lose $60. After some back and forth, they did finally offer the lesson but by then I was not interested and did forfeit the lesson. Don't pay 1 month in advance. Besides that, you may not like the instructor.

Not only does Gordon Price sell music, but also great teaching aids and musical novelty items, which is great for anyone musical in your life. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about music - go figure - and are always there to lend a hand. I've called ahead and asked for books to be held for me which they've done without hesitation. That alone makes me return on a regular basis for my teaching materials.

Any guitar player knows getting new frets is akin to heart surgery and rather than risk a botch job I used to drive my guitar down to a tech in Calgary who I trusted. Doc has replaced that tech for me. The other day I had him install a new tusque nut and replace the SI pot on my Strat. I needed it for the weekend and he did all the work that day - wonderful! Pretty happy to have a Long & McQuade in my neck of the woods…read more This location is just off of 137th ave in the industrial area not far from either St. Albert Trail or 156th street. They have an acoustic room which I much prefer in being able to sit down and play quietly and look at all the options. Recently brought our 9 year old here after Christmas to pick out her first guitar of her own. She found a fabulous bright coraly-pink acoustic that came with a case on sale for under $200 and surprisingly sounded great. Hubs picked up a Merlin (related to dulcimer) which he as been wanting to get. Total transaction was less than $400 which if you play guitars, know is a freaking miracle. Opted for the additional year of insurance on both for $5, why not? What keeps them from a 5 star? Well, we had to wait to find someone to help us a couple times and really, couldn't you let my daughter pick out a couple 50 cent neon pink picks for free when we're buying two instruments? I stopped into Lillo's Music today before seeing a Fringe show…read more I took piano lessons, but it's been years since I sat at a piano, however I've recently been watching music theory videos on YouTube, so I thought I'd stop in and see what they had for theory books. I was greeted right away and was shown the section of theory books. There was a variety to choose from, but I went with the Elementary Rudiments of Music by Barbara Wharram because it had some of the basics to refresh my memory, but also seems to go into theory topics I never got to in my piano studies like modes and transposition. I also browsed their guitar books and picked up a basics (because I have a guitar but haven't taken lessons). Aside from books they do have actual musical instruments, and I understand they do repairs as well. Lillo's Music will be closing in December (their music school will stay open though) so if you're looking to get some sheet music or buy an instrument make sure to stop by soon.
