Before coming to this event I had no real inclination to go out to Sandyford for the sake of a restaurant. After the feed that the Beacon's My Thai provided for us I will definitely be going back there. When we arrived we were seated in the Crystal bar and given some lovely flavoured mojitos. Mine was watermelon. I wanted to make it last but I couldn't help myself; it was so tasty I nearly downed the thing in one go. Next we were led into the restaurant. It was a really nice place decorated with all kinds of Thai and Buddhist artwork. I spotted a huge collection of wine bottles at the end of our groups table. My first thought was "surely that can't be for us" but it was. We were seated, the food and beverage manager introduced himself and everyone was poured a very large glass of wine. When I signed up for this event all I expected was some small bits and pieces maybe a few tasting plates which would have been reasonable and very nice in itself. When they brought out the first round of starter dishes though, I could not have been happier to be wrong. They brought out plates and plates of food; prawn dumplings, chicken satay skewers and a variety of different kinds of springs rolls, all of which were absolutely delicious. At this point the restaurant's head chef, San, came out to see how we were all enjoying his creations. Although we weren't very talkative I think he could see that we appreciated his work greatly. When the main courses came out I was still shocked by the sheer amount of food provided for us.I sat in awe as the serving staff brought out plate after plate of amazing looking food. Everything looked absolutely amazing. I couldn't wait to gorge myself. We all piled our plates with food and tucked in. I think they must have brought out one of each dish on the menu. I think my favourite two dishes were the duck in hoisin sauce and the Indonesian bbq fish. Although I loved everything; there was not one dish there that I wouldn't love to come back and order again myself. When it got to the point that we were all completely full to burst, the waiting staff took away our plates. I nearly expected that to be it. So far we we had been stuffed full with the starters and main course, not to mention the fact that they never let our wine glasses go empty. When the desert came there was a collective moan of "Oh yes more delicious food!" but also with a bit of "Oh god no not more are you trying to kill us with this feast?!". They brought out two different cheese cakes, a chocolate fudge cake and a huge selction of fruit. Everything about this event was amazing from the food to the lovely staff. What a seriously awesome event!! Prospective Elite venues, take note: You could definitely learn a thing or two from The Beacon. Most times when you're treated to food you're sharing a just a small sampler with several other hungry people. Even though it's free, you wish they had put out just a little extra so everyone is sure to try every dish. The Beacon flooded us with food and all of it was delicious! They didn't skimp in any department: the cocktails were delicious and a generous size, the wine was endless, my glass was never anything but full and not from a lack of drinking I can tell you that much. There were plenty of starters and even more mains, I'm pretty sure we sampled the entire menu?? The chef came out to greet us and was super attentive, there was a Vegetarian or two among us and he was quick to put in an extra order of veggie spring rolls himself as soon as we said so. Staff was all incredibly nice, very welcoming and again, constantly serving drinks or food the whole night! Because it was so much food I did not expect dessert and we were treated to a plate of fruit, chocolate and cheesecake which were all divine. Many food-related Elite events you end up grabbing something to eat before or after, not knowing how much you'll get, but this was the first event I actually had a whole meals worth and left full! It was a journey for most people who attended the event, ourselves included, but the Luas ride and short walk was definitely worth it. I tried so many things that were delicious that we'd definitely come all the way back just to have them again. The hotel is modern and chic but the restaurant ended up feeling very cozy and intimate and definitely a place for a date night. What a treat this really was! We were all spoiled from start to finish by The Beacon Hotel last night. On arriving at the Beacon we were treated to some gorgeous cocktails in the Crystal Bar, mine was a Passionfruit Mojito and it was genuinely fantastic. It was so full of flavour, the mint was so fresh, not too sweet, just perfect. The bar itself is really nice, soft lighting and draped white fabric. After our cocktails we were led into the My Thai restaurant. We were all made feel so welcome by the excellent hotel staff. We were given full plates of starters, main courses AND desserts to share. I am vegetarian so I was not able to try most of the starters, but they looked amazing! I informed staff that I was vegetarian and they promised to whip me up something, which was great. I tried the veggie spring rolls (really good!) and loved the cashew fried rice. I was given a tofu & veg green curry, which I have to say was one of the nicest I've ever had! The vegetables were so full of flavour and so fresh, the sauce was really gorgeous, I'm still dreaming about it!! For dessert we were given some delicious and beautifully presented fresh fruit and cake. The baked cheesecake was my favourite - I think it was Mango? Throughout our feast, staff generously topped us up with wine. The wine that they served (Urmeneta Cabernet Sauvignon & Savignon Blanc) was really gorgeous and complimented the food perfectly. I also really loved the huge fishbowl wine glasses! I really can't speak highly enough of this event. The food, drinks, staff, decor; everything was perfect. I'm so glad I came along as I never would have known just how good the Beacon and their restaurant is. Well I have a new favourite cocktail ! the watermelon mojito was one of the best things I have ever tasted !! AMAZING and in a really nice big glass - I'm not sure if that is the standard size or if it was because it was a special night either way this alone would bring me back. The food was amazing and so generous - I would say we tried most of the menu and it was all delicious. I liked the venue much more then I thought as I'm generally not a big fan of hotel restaurants but they have done a great job with the decor making it feel like a restaurant worth visiting in its own right. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The head chef Sam was full of charisma and so passionate about the food - he also offers cookery courses at the weekends which I would love to try read more

I absolutely loved this event! I know that I say this for every event, and this is becoming a staple of my reviews of all Yelp events, but honestly I'm starting to feel that Yelp can do no wrong. Like other people said, I was a little fearful that it would be hard or very time consuming to get to the hotel, but mostly because I haven't been here for long and distances on a map still look much greater than they actually are. I may be Portuguese, but I'm no Magellan! It took us about 20 minutes to get there though, and that included a calm walk from the Luas stop to the hotel. We were greeted with an assortment of cocktails, I got to try the watermelon one in addition to the spiced rum I was lucky to end up with, and they were both really good. I found out then that the Beacon and the Morgan are sister hotels, and it honestly tells both in the decor and in the quality of the cocktails. Now I only had one cocktail at the Beacon so take it with a pinch of salt when I say the Morgan's were slightly better, but I did have a meal in both places and I much preferred My Thai. Now there is a pinch of salt to be taken from the statement above too: the Mai Thai's menu plays more to my taste than the Morgan does. But enough comparisons, lets get down to the chase: the food was brilliant. We pretty much tried the entire menu (or at least it felt like it) because this even was extremely generous in how much food they put out, and though it was hard to choose an outstanding dish, I would have to go with the sea bass, though the Lamb curry and the Duck with noodles come very close. We also got to try a lot of starters which were not even on my plate long enough for me to take a picture. The shrimp dumplings were divine and the chicken skewers were to die for. Now the purpose of a Yelp event is of course for us to go out and sing the place's praises to the world. So bravo Yelp, you nailed it. With the added bonus that I will be coming back and I will be bringing more people. I'd like to give a special word to the staff who were extremely polite, efficient and forgiving of rowdy Yelp elites (and again, very generous with the wine pours, THANK YOU!) and to the Chef, who not only prepared gorgeous food, was an incredibly funny and attentive man, clearly proud of what he put in front of us. I'm very fortunate. So much so, sometimes I need to pinch myself. I get to go to some fabulous places and eat for free. Very lucky indeed. Of these events, some are leaps ahead of others in terms of food, drinks and service. One such event was My Thai Treat. Welcomed warmly in the Beacon Hotel, we were given mojito cocktails. The highlight of which for me was the passion fruit mojito. Next was the food. Oh my, the food. Starters consisted of veg spring rolls, chicken spring rolls and duck spring rolls and more. The mains consisted of prawn fried rice, a spicy lamb dish and more duck... amongst other food. Really could not fault My Thai for their range of food that they treated us to. Next up was dessert. I managed to nab some cheese cake and chocolate cake with some fruit thrown in. I'm not saying this lightly when I say myself and my husband thought this was the finest Thai food we've had in Dublin. Top marks to head chef Sam. He pulled out all the stops and it showed. Other highlights were the staff, they gave 100% the whole evening. Above and beyond to impress. I think we'd already decided to return before the mains were through. The wine we were treated to was very drinkable, another star for that. Thank you Emily for a five star Elite event. And to The Beacon for amazing hospitality. It's a privilege to go to elite Yelp events. But to go to a top event like this is very lucky indeed. Thank you. read more

So I had an amazing time at this resturant last night. Getting down to sandyford was a bit of a trek for me but it was totally worth it. I came in to the bar at first and was given a watermelon flavoured cocktail that tasted really good. Sometimes at these events i'm never quite sure how much actual food they're going to serve us but I needn't have worried this place went all out to give out loads of amazing thai food. They brought out loads of appetizers first, spring rolls of different varieties and chicken skewers It felt like they brought out their whole menu and I loved all of it with the exception of the sweet duck dish. I believe that was down to taste though as others seemed to really like it. There was so much of it I took some home for breakfast the next day and it tasted wonderful. The desserts as well were terrific. Chocolate, cheese and mango cake with lots of fruit, I only wish i had a bigger stomach! i'd recommend this place to anyone and i'd love to go back. read more

I was not so sure about attending this event as it was in a week night and I work very early, and also the location was a bit far for me but I am feeling so glad that I decided to go to this amazing Elite dinner party for 20 lucky people! First of all, it was very easy to get there - a short stroll from either Kilmacud or Stillorgan Luas stops. The hotel is beautiful with a very modern decoration as it is a mark for any hotel of that chain - either The Beacon, The Spencer or The Morgan, they all have the same look and feel. The night started with delish watermelon and passion fruit cocktails to get the conversation going and the crowd was interesting, nice and funny. At the end of the bar in the corner of the restaurant, they display an open kitchen and I absolutely love the opportunity to see the stuff being done in a very clean environment. The restaurant had again such a nice touch and a very special panel (monks walking through a field) in the background. We had a very big table laid out for all of us with huge wine glasses and empty plates waiting for the explosion of flavors that was about to come. I only eat fish and there was plenty of food in nice portions and for sure, absolutely no one left hungry. Nicely cooked veggie spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, followed by prawns dumplings and 2 types of fish with fried rice. My big first choice of the whole menu was with no doubt the Indonesian street style bbq grilled fish bursting flavour with ginger and chilli, besides being presented in exotic banana leaves. Assorted chocolate and cheesecakes with bowls of fresh fruit helped the digestion of everyone at the end of such lovely night. Thank you guys! What a treat indeed! And a brilliant feeling to get the VIP experience. As a lovely warming up we got to try some of their cocktails in their Chrystal Bar - a nice, relaxed bar where you forget that you're in a Hotel Bar. I happened to get the Spiced Pear Mojito which was just brilliant. Anytime again. We then got to go to go to the My Thai restaurant where we got to choose our wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Cabernet Sauvignon) and Sparkling or Still Water. And the 3-course tasting began. I am in trouble if I have to decide on one favourite, but from the starters I'd say it was the Gai Satay, from the mains any of the two duck dishes, but really I loved the lamb too (very niecely spiced) and even the Green Curry, something I usually never touch as I'm afraid it could be too spicy for me. But we got plain joghurt to clear our palate and that helped also to switch from one taste sensation to the next. The expression that springs to mind is "Firework for the taste buds". Well, what can I say about the desserts? A dream. Lovely variety of fresh fruit and cakes. We had so many different dishes to choose from that it was impossible to try them all but I am more than happy with every single one I could try. And the staff was very professional, friendly and seemed to enjoy the night too. Sam the head chef came out several times to make sure we're all happy and to answer any questions we had. Definitly the full VIP package. So yes, I highly recommend My Thai. And they have very good offer on for early bird and lunch. Can't have gotten any better. I left tipsy, full of great food and with future plans to return for more. On arrival Emily greeted us to this well organised event and I then received a delicious cocktail of a spiced pear mohito followed by a passion fruit mohito. I had time to meet and greet some other yelp elites and it was lovely to meet some old faces I hadn't met in a while and some I'd only met once before. We were then led by the food and beverage manager behind some curtains to an especially set up area and bedazzled and wowed with many wonderful Thai dishes. We got to sample and share chicken satay, prawn dumplings and duck rolls and that was followed by the main courses of which there were so many that I couldn't possibly name them all but I do remember some dishes: duck in a plum sauce (so moreish), seabass on a bed of fresh vegetables and a chicken and rice dish served inside a halfed pineapple. We got to meet the chef which was nice too as he introduced us to his street food menu. Everything was delicious, everything was sampled with not a bit left over by all us hungry yelpers! And this was all washed down by wine, which I didn't drink too much of and sparkling water. We ended the meal with some luscious desserts and wow they really didn't hold back here on the quality. There was melt in the mouth cheesecake, chocolate gateau and lots of fresh exotic fruit. The decor of the hotel too is lovely, they have a really interesting lobby area with funky furniture which I'm sure is a real talking point among guests and visitors. I also love to have fruit as a dessert. The presentation of the food was great too which only highlights how is it carefully prepared. Quite simply the best Yelp event i've been too. The food was absolutely amazing. The cocktails were great and the wine was excellent. The staff at the beacon really put on an excellent evening for us all. I was quite amazed at how well they treated us and how welcoming they were. The food as I mentioned was great. I don't think I have ever had better Thai food and it was up there for me on dining anywhere. My personal favourites were the vegetarian spring rolls and the signature lamb curry.
