We hired Handy Man in May (writing this in October) to lay new tile in our kitchen and while we had high hopes, we're are quite disappointed with the service and end result.
After mentioning that we were considering doing the job ourselves until we realized we'd need to rip up the subfloor, they assured us they could do the job without removing the subfloor and for the price they proposed for the project we figured, why not, let's do it!
Within days after they finished the job, we noticed unevenness with the tile and cracks in the grout. They came back 3 or 4 times to lay another layer of grout until they finally decided they indeed needed to remove the subfloor and then reinstall new tile again.
They then blamed Home Depot for shipping the wrong tile but upon looking at the screenshots they had shared with us, they actually ordered the wrong tile. Meanwhile, we didn't have any flooring in half of our kitchen for weeks.
All in all, they pride themselves on leaving jobs as if they were doing the work in their own home. However, I would not consider what they left us with as a finished product. The grout was sloppily left all over the tiles with hard to remove shoe prints and chipped paint all over the edging around the floor. Granted this was after multiple times confirming them they'd clean the tile when they were done.
So after dealing with this project from May to October, the contractor went dark so I was left with needing to spend an entire Sunday scrubbing the floor to get out the grout that left a hazy residue on top of the tiles and unfortunately was unable to get all of it off because it had been sitting so long.
It seems like they do great work for different kinds of projects but certainly wouldn't recommend them for tile work. read more
