Right, so here's a little slice of the absurd. As a woman who walked into what I thought was a safe, welcoming LGBTQ bar, I was met with a bizarre exclusion. The servers barely acknowledged me until I realized the unspoken dress code: apparently, tank tops were the golden ticket to decent service. If you dare to wear something else... well, don't expect much. So if you're not a tank-top person or good looking male, brace yourself for invisibility. And as if the universe hadn't already made its point, the nachos I ordered were a soggy disaster. They stumbled out late like they were still figuring out if they even wanted to exist and somehow managed to be flavorless puddles of disappointment. Nice bar. Drinks are affordable. Went there for karaoke night on a Sunday we put in our songs to sing and we waited almost 40 mins or longer for one of us to sing. The bartenders play favoritism with who comes up next to sing for karaoke tho you put in your song way before others. We were sitting by the bar and can see the computer screen and they were literally moving people names around who sang well at the bottom to the top. We asked one of the bartender "can you look at the list and see when we are next?" He said we were #3 then after 6 people, it was our turn. The employees like to play favoritism when it comes to karaoke night. read more

Fun gay bar, but the "+ pizza" part of their name needs to be the removed. The $18 "meaty" pizza is as disappointing as a cat fish Grindr hook up. Barely any meat and worse than a frozen pizza you can get at a grocery store for $5. Gay bar yes. Dinner spot no. My Bar was a blast! We went every night we were on the island. Our first night there was a Wednesday night and the incredible Sabel Cities was hosting her show. I was so impressed that it started on time and my side hurt from how hard Sable had me laughing. Don't miss her show but be on time because it really does start at 9:00 pm unlike most drag shows. We really did go every night because we had so much. They have karaoke on Thursday night and Sunday night and who could forget the swimwear night on Saturday. My Bar was also the host of the Hawai'i Gay Kickball Classic we were playing in. They hosted an amazing opening night party for us and closing night party. I will disagree with other reviews on the pizza because we loved the pizza and chicken tenders! The bartenders and staff are AMAZING! read more

Came in to check out the bar and have a beer. First off a 15.00 dollar cover charge just because the bar brought in a DJ. Then order a beer and sitting at the bar and was only in my bar stool for 15 minutes and was told that I needed to get up that they were taking away the bar stools and if I wanted to sit on a stool I could sit out side in the rain. My Bar is a lovely, peppy dive with the friendliest bartenders and clientele around. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed. It was a relief after we had walked over a mile to Ola Brew, found a single bartender trying to accommodate hoards of tourists, and just wanted to grab some drinks. My Bar is right across the street and serves Ola draft alongside an impressive bottle selection and bar bites like pizza or tenders. We had arrived a little after seven, but stuck around for the Sable Scities drag show at nine, which was a blast. They had an amazing Chinese Lion Dance show, in addition to Sable's risque humor and a guest dancer. It's not my usual scene, but we had an undeniably great time. The pizza wasn't revolutionary, but it was large and hit the spot. We went with the meat option, which came square cut and topped with sausage and cubed pepperoni, like you'd find on Digiornos. Perfect companion for our extended stay. As previously mentioned, there were lots of Ola draft options, including my favorite Kiawe Porter, the safe Maa Lager, and cider/seltzer options. I ventured to a gin and tonic, which was quite possibly the strongest call I've ever been served. I had to call it quits on the liquor after that, and the bartenders were incredibly understanding, and constantly refilled my cup of water throughout the show. Really next-level considerate service. The only tip I have is to make sure you have a transportation contingency plan. Ubers pretty much stopped running by the time the show was over around 11, so we had a nice walk back to Alii Drive. As a bonus, after our evening of bar food and drinks, the bill was far lower than I was expecting. Many thanks to all the good people that made our night fun, affordable, and memorable. Let this be my first and hopefully only negative review as I've usually refrained from bashing a business over a bad experience. I feel like I want to write this review because this could have ruined our last night in Hawaii if we did not leave. Myself and a group of friends were in town for my best friend's bachelorette weekend get away and we spontaneously decided to have a night out after our beach day. We saw this on Yelp and it looked fun, had good reviews, and we thought Karaoke would be fun - gay bars have usually been a good go-to for a good time, good music, and welcoming/friendly vibes! We also got a recommendation from a local to come here so we really thought it would be a good place to go. The second we first got there... it was far from that which was absolutely disappointing. The bartender was by far the rudest I have ever come across at any gay bar.... or any bar at that! We were there on vacation, spoiling our friend for her bachelorette, AND WE WERE THERE TO SPEND MONEY AND TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! Maybe it's my bad for comparing this to the bars I've been to here in the Bay Area where were from. To reiterate exactly why our experience was horrible would simply be a waste of my time... but in a nut shell, clearly this place only caters to their locals, which totally sucks because I can see how it could have good potential -- so tourists BEWARE!!! I will also just add that it was a Sunday night so the bar was not packed at all for the service to be bad... the guy running the bar was just an absolute (insert word here). Awful service! The bartender Kevin made me 2 very weak Mai-Tai drinks for $30. They didn't even have the 2-tone brown and orange look. My partner who normally doesn't even drink said that he didn't taste any rum in it either. I asked the bar tender Kevin if he made virgin drinks by mistake. I was shocked when he replied: "fuck off" and "leave if you don't like it!" I regret I gave him a tip with my drinks. Very unprofessional, over the top, angry behavior that I got scared. After Yelp searching "gay bars" in Kona, I was surprised that two businesses popped up. On Maui, we have Z E R O. So lame! After having one drink at Mask-Querade, which was a nice place to have a conversation but got a little boring after a while, we decided to check out My Bar, which was close by. ATMOSPHERE: My Bar is located in a small metal warehouse-looking building in an industrial park. Inside, it sports a good sized bar, high tops, dance floor, two pool tables, and a small outdoor lanai with a few seats. The DJ played a mix of mostly house/trance with a wee bit of dance. The dance floor lighting was pretty cool, and you were allowed to bring your drink on the dance floor, a big no-no in Beaumont, TX-like Maui (did you get the Footloose movie pun?) The Saturday night crowd was a mix of gay and straight, and everyone had a nice time. The bartenders were friendly and delivered quick service. And best of all, the bottled beer (Bud) was only $3!? Score!! OVERALL: Great for dancing not for conversing, cheap beer, not overly crowded. read more

My boyfriend and I attended Da Glow Up last night for the first time!!! SO CHILL, never have I ever thought that I would find my go-to spot here in Kona. We need more bars like this one!!! I'll go to MyBar maybe once or twice a year, and everytime I go, I'm reminded why I go once or twice a year. I can stand at the bar and literally wait 15-20 minutes to even get acknowledged that I'm there. The bartenders never look up... Even to greet you (unless you are a frequent .... Meaning if you are part of their clique). I've even stood at the bar and people behind me get their drinks before I even order mines! I think this is my first negative review for an establishment.... I visited the Big Island and wanted to perform comedy and knew some of the comedians that have performed there. As soon as I walked in I knew this was going to be fun. The room was open and fun with pool tables and a back room with fun decor. When the comedy started, the room was turned into a small comedy room. The pool stopped and the whole audience had great seats to see the stage. Comedy was fun and everyone had a great time. The staff was super friendly and they had a good selection of local beers. I was looking for a Gay bar Or Gay friendly bar and This place and only one other came up so I went. I'm glad I did. Kona's main gay-ish club is fun and friendly. If you like mixed drinks stick with simple choices; specialty drinks like my recent mai tai miss the mark. On dance nights(weekends) it can be a bit too straight for my taste -- I like to flirt and don't know what to do with straight guys -- but the owners are out to make money and welcome all, and Kona has a dearth of good bars/clubs in general. It can get VERY loud and can be difficult to have a conversation, so if we're feeling chatty my husband and I generally will go to the much smaller, much quieter, much gayer Mask Bar. I was excited to be in Kona for Pride weekend. A large group of us showed up to My Bar to watch the drag show. I had a great time watching the performances by the wonderful drag queens. The performers were all great and had moves, even the really big guys! The drinks are cheap and they let you run a tab, which is very convenient. The bar aesthetically is nothing special, but completely fine, and the bartenders are fast and nice. I'm not much of a bar goer these days, but it's nice to go to a gay friendly place and avoid those dumb male tourists who may try to pick me up like they do Huggos on the Rocks! The owners have completely renovated the bar, it's definitely the nicest I've seen in the island. It's a gay bar, but people of all orientations come and love it because it's a very fun atmosphere. You don't have to worry about there ever being drama. The bartenders have are awesome, they're very attentive and friendly. Karaoke is awesome during the weekdays. If you like the club environment, the weekends are usually poppin'. There's always a DJ or an event. I'm a pool player, my husband and I love coming here on weekdays because it's pretty relaxed.
