If you like Etsy you'll LOVE Prussian Street Arcade!…read more I'm not sure what took me so long to check this place out but so glad I did. It's worth a trip from anywhere in Central PA. Now for what it is...described as an antique mall or flea market (co -op where there's different vendor spaces), it'a a mecca for many different booths of awesomeness. Each booth represents a different vendor selling their wares. More curated than collected each artisan exhibits top notch craftsmanship and creativity. They carry everything from unique handmade items, to creative up-cycles, to modern and timeless vintage items, to gourmet shelf staple foods. You'll find something for everyone on your Christmas list. And because each vendor is a local craftsman or small business - it's shopping you'll feel good about. The space could not be more perfect. I was told it was an old chip factory in it's prior life and the unique architectural features are the perfect backdrop. With exposed beams and windows flooding the space with natural sunlight it's as pretty as the goods featured. There's plenty of parking, it's easy to find right on route 72 in the middle of Manheim, and with a bakery next door, you have everything you need to stay for hours browsing. It's the perfect girls day out adventure. If you're like me you'll be in awe that such a marketplace exists outside of Waco, Texas.

I suspected, based on the area, there would be old and unique furnishings. And there is. I've recently downsized but if I was in the market for a hoosier -- there are at least four with flour mills -- or display pieces for my pottery, this would be the place. Prices vary, and logically are set by individual vendors. I saw two 1950s formica tables, both with chairs. One was $175, a very good price (in my estimation.) The other, pictured below, a fair amount more. There are three floors of merchandise. As said, a lot of furniture. What piqued my interest in the basement is a huge piece of stained glass. (Actually, I don't think it's glass, but it's old and looks like glass.) Originally priced at $400, on sale for $200. A person or business with just the right spot will get a deal. Anyway, if you're in the area and you like this kind of stuff, stop by. It can't hurt!

I shop all the time in Philly and honestly the cost of such items wasn't terrible in comparison to the city. I understand the range in pricing given different vendors price differently, so I'll chalk up some of the more shocking prices to that. My mom shops for Black Americana and did find a few items too. It was clear some were 1800s-early 1900s. Overall many items were there to choose from. Cell service was terrible here but my service was bad in this part of town in general. The staff were great. One person recommended some thrift shops in town for us and chatted with me about a shared interest in thrifting. I would return!

Though I no longer actively collect -- I've downsized since selling my house -- I still look at items that interest me and rarely pass up a deal. Mad Hatter has beautiful pottery. (I've collected Hull and Roseville for 35+ years.) Several booths specialize in kitschy mid-century items which I find fun. I debated about purchasing the snack bowls I photographed, which my mom had in the 1950s. (Decided against it. Nostalgia didn't win out this time.) You can breeze through the mall or spend hours looking. Parking is easy, the staff is helpful and as said, if you're looking to build a collection, Mad Hatter is worth a visit.
