We LOVED this store and all of the great finds in it! I fell in love with an old typewriter and Steinway. There was a wall of gorgeous cutting boards - that just couldn't haven been antiques. Maybe a local artist? The employee /owner? was a really cool / nice guy. Great music playing too.

"A house with old furniture has no need of ghosts to be haunted."―Hope Mirrlees, "Lud-in-the-Mist" We visited quite a few antique stores while visiting Lancaster County (a.k.a Amish Country). Not necessarily looking for anything in particular, but more out of curiosity. Old Mill was probably my second favorite* store out of the four that we visited throughout the area. They had the typical Antique Mall setup that I've seen, with three separate floors full of misc stuff from various dealers. The one thing that really separated Old Mill from the others was they probably had more furniture than all the other three combined. In fact, their bottom floor was entirely furniture. They had quality merchandise and it was well laid out. The lady working the front was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to help. Highly recommended to check out while antiquing in Amish country. *I'd tell you my favorite but Yelp would pull my review. However, I will say my favorite was right next door to this one... *hint hint*

"Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends."―H.Jackson Brown, Jr…read more We visited quite a few antique stores while visiting Lancaster County (a.k.a Amish Country). Not necessarily looking for anything in particular, but more out of curiosity. This was easily our favorite store out of the bunch. They had that typical Antique Mall setup, in which there's thousands of items from dozens of dealers spread across three gigantic floors. But it wasn't so much the quantity here as it was the quality of the goods just seemed a cut-above the other stores we visited. Beyond the goods, the venue itself (a restored tabacco warehouse) is neat and oozing in history. Service from the Amish lady running the cash register was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended if you're in the area to check them out for a fun few hours of poking around.

While browsing, keep in mind that each section is run by a different vendor; this means you could find the same (or similar items) in a different booth for a different (or lesser) price. Everyone who works here is pleasant, friendly, and helpful. The soft, modern Christian music playing in the background is pleasant and makes you remember what part of the state / country you're in. Give a visit, you'll be happy you took the time to wander, browse, and admire all the treasures from yesteryear.

Yes the sun is going down and I'm stuck on muddy ground…read moreI'm just tryin' to get through in muddy bottom blues. (Muddy Bottom Blues -Tab Benoit) So when a group I belong to decided to have our Mid-Winter meeting in PA Dutch country, quite a few of the members were excited because "we can go to the Mud Sale". What's a 'Mud Sale'? Well I didn't know so I did some research and learned it's a fundraising tradition among many volunteer fire departments in Lancaster County. The tradition goes back fifty years. You'll find them all over the area on weekends between late Winter and early Spring. And since so many of these auctions are held outdoors when the ground can be very muddy from melting snow, well they became known as "Mud Sales". We had a blast here! The Strasburg Auction starts at 8 AM, and you had better get there early or you'll have a real hefty hike from wherever you finally find a place to park. The auctions are spread through what resembles a fairgrounds ringing the Fire Station. Auctions are in maybe a half dozen buildings, inside maybe another half dozen huge tents, and at stalls criss-crossing the entire complex. What can you buy? Probably anything! The official auction schedule lists these categories: quilt crafts, small goods, new and used tools, crafts, antiques, groceries, furniture, collectibles, hay and straw, farm machinery, sheds, building materials, carriages, horses & mules, lawn and garden, and gift certificates. There are multiple simultaneous auctions, so as you walk through the grounds you'll hear many variations of the auctioneers' rapid fire delivery. Believe me, its immensely entertaining to sit in the rooms and behold the spectacle of these men speaking super humanly fast. We hung out in the quilt, home furnishings, tools and furniture buildings and tents. The furniture tent was super muddy, and plywood sheets were installed on the floor to make things easier, but the sheets were under muddy water. We watched the outdoor stalls where they auctioned off box lots of household things for like $2 or $3 a box. I saw someone bid on an upright vacuum that had an impressive tower of pre-owned dirt inside the central cylinder. This is a "must experience" thing to see if you are in Lancaster. Just don't forget to wear your boots.
