I suspected, based on the area, there would be old and unique furnishings. And there is. I've recently downsized but if I was in the market for a hoosier -- there are at least four with flour mills -- or display pieces for my pottery, this would be the place. Prices vary, and logically are set by individual vendors. I saw two 1950s formica tables, both with chairs. One was $175, a very good price (in my estimation.) The other, pictured below, a fair amount more. There are three floors of merchandise. As said, a lot of furniture. What piqued my interest in the basement is a huge piece of stained glass. (Actually, I don't think it's glass, but it's old and looks like glass.) Originally priced at $400, on sale for $200. A person or business with just the right spot will get a deal. Anyway, if you're in the area and you like this kind of stuff, stop by. It can't hurt!

Unfortunately an odd snowstorm derailed the original March opening weekend, but I was still able to visit a few days later. Their grand opening is scheduled for this weekend with a schedule full of special events. If you are a tried and true thrift enthusiast, always looking for the best deal, to be honest this location is not for you. I'm one of those people and was a little taken back by their pricing. Let's touch on that for a moment.....prices are not horrible, but they are horrible compared to what I'm used to. THIS IS A BOUTIQUE THRIFT STORE. The staff even told me so, and is geared towards the tourist crowd, or those folks that might not otherwise purchase good second hand. At first glance, you won't know you're in a thrift store by the merchandise offerings and elevated displays and that's kind of the point. It's beautiful and their "better" name donations will end up here moving forward. It's evident someone with a skilled eye is responsible for the store layout and displays, which are beautiful. Parking is ample in their own lot. Hours are limited as of now but that could change when tourist season is in full swing. They will NEVER be open on Sundays, as they are a christian based ministery and the stores raise funds for addicts and their recovery.. What you won't find here is a huge selection, but adequate, the best of the best. Housewares unless it's higher end or decorative. A second floor is currently being renovated for future expansion, and the staff are wonderfull. Although it's not a store that will be on my thrift rotation due to the fact that I'm a resller and can't make money on retail prices but a lovely store I'd recommend for anyone looking to dip their toes into the reused world.

It's like a jewelry grab bag with each vessel filled to the brim with tons of jewelry. They are extremely reasonably priced. How fun it will be to get home and discover the treasures that await! Yes the sun is going down and I'm stuck on muddy ground…read moreI'm just tryin' to get through in muddy bottom blues. (Muddy Bottom Blues -Tab Benoit) So when a group I belong to decided to have our Mid-Winter meeting in PA Dutch country, quite a few of the members were excited because "we can go to the Mud Sale". What's a 'Mud Sale'? Well I didn't know so I did some research and learned it's a fundraising tradition among many volunteer fire departments in Lancaster County. The tradition goes back fifty years. You'll find them all over the area on weekends between late Winter and early Spring. And since so many of these auctions are held outdoors when the ground can be very muddy from melting snow, well they became known as "Mud Sales". We had a blast here! The Strasburg Auction starts at 8 AM, and you had better get there early or you'll have a real hefty hike from wherever you finally find a place to park. The auctions are spread through what resembles a fairgrounds ringing the Fire Station. Auctions are in maybe a half dozen buildings, inside maybe another half dozen huge tents, and at stalls criss-crossing the entire complex. What can you buy? Probably anything! The official auction schedule lists these categories: quilt crafts, small goods, new and used tools, crafts, antiques, groceries, furniture, collectibles, hay and straw, farm machinery, sheds, building materials, carriages, horses & mules, lawn and garden, and gift certificates. There are multiple simultaneous auctions, so as you walk through the grounds you'll hear many variations of the auctioneers' rapid fire delivery. Believe me, its immensely entertaining to sit in the rooms and behold the spectacle of these men speaking super humanly fast. We hung out in the quilt, home furnishings, tools and furniture buildings and tents. The furniture tent was super muddy, and plywood sheets were installed on the floor to make things easier, but the sheets were under muddy water. We watched the outdoor stalls where they auctioned off box lots of household things for like $2 or $3 a box. I saw someone bid on an upright vacuum that had an impressive tower of pre-owned dirt inside the central cylinder. This is a "must experience" thing to see if you are in Lancaster. Just don't forget to wear your boots.
