Went Biking yesterday to Lathrop, CA specifically to try Mikasa Japanese Bistro ( www.yelp.com/biz/mikasa-japanese-bistro-lathrop ) - Real nice environment, dark and moody atmosphere with nice faux-Teak tables. But the problem was me - way too Sweaty with dried Salt particles all over me. The distance between tables was way too short to provide privacy and / or isolation from a guy that just biked his way to Lathrop that morning. Chang's Restaurant ( www.yelp.com/biz/chang-restaurant-lathrop-2 ) - A Cantonese Chinese restaurant hidden in a strip mall on Cambridge Street. Didn't like the atmosphere - Luncheon Diners are relegated to a 15' x 15' area... And I didn't see Singapore Noodles on the menu... Average price on the menu was just under $7.00. Lunch Specials from $4.99 to $6.45. Golden Bowl ( www.yelp.com/biz/golden-bowl-chinese-restaurant-lathrop ) - White Tablecloth Chinese Szechuan restaurant - Too nice and high-priced for Lathrop. Huge place - Where are they going to get all the customers to fill up this restaurant? Average price was $2.00 OVER Chang's Restaurant's price for comparable entrees. Lunch Specials from $6.95 to $7.95. Settled for some Donuts from MX Donuts... Sugar-Crunch Donut (****) Sugar-Cinnamon Twist (*** 1/2) Total: $1.95 Open just for seven months - I tried to initiate some conversation with the owner - first thing out of her was complaints about the Economy. Can here one morning for the first time. The shop is small, but has a warmly homely feel. There was two young man working. Right when I walked in, I was helped within 2 minute. The service was quick and fast, I was in and out in last than 5 minutes. The donuts was soft and delicious. The toppings was enough for you to taste the favor but not too much that it over powers the taste. Overall, I will definitely go back again to fix my sweet craving. read more

I read some of the reviews for this place and a lot of the bad reviews seem unfair... the reason they close early is because they sell out usually by noon or 1 o'clock... If you want selection, get there early. You won't find a fresher donut in California. Period. I recently ate at Mr. T's in Modesto and it's nothing compared to MX. Donuts need to be moist. And I can actually eat an MX donut without a drink in hand. Great pricing too. Complaints about the shop being too small, are we serious guys? Who sits down at a donut shop anyways? I just got home from walking down to MX Donuts for a dozen and as always the service is as good as the best you'll find anywhere. While the gentlemen was selecting the requested types of donuts I saw one got a bit smashed and noticed he was going to pass it over for those that were more 'presentable' and I told him to snag it that it made no difference to me and he refused saying that he was going to give it to me on top of the dozen I ordered and it turns out he gave me a handful of donut holes as well which I hadn't noticed until I got home just now. From my understanding it's also family owned which is wonderful to see. It might be the only donut shop in Lathrop, CA but even if it was one of many it would still be THE one to go to! read more

Delicious! Clean, friendly, low cost. Found this on Yelp as we are traveling and wanted my traditional birthday donut. We tried their cinnamon roll, raised yeast chocolate covered donut and the plain old fashioned. See the picture for the cinnamon roll. It was a good size, light and delicious. The raised chocolate was light and fluffy, not too yeasty and had a good amount of excellent quality chocolate frosting. The plain old fashioned was a little bland, but probably should have tasted it first. Cinnamon roll was $1.25, the other two were .70 each. Good selection of coffees, milk varieties and juices from which to choose. I would highly recommend this. It is just off the I-5 exit in Lathrop, in a newer shopping center and gas stations. This place is pretty good for the flavor of doughnuts. There are 3 ways to tell how good a doughnut shop is and its by their doughnut holes, glazed old fashion and buttermilk. The people working are always nice. The place is a little boring and could get a make over. Very plain and white. Looks a little dirty. Maybe some color can brighten the place up and bring people in who would actually sit and eat, maybe even popular enough for more chairs. The prices are a little high for my pocket, but what doughnut shop isn't these days. I would recommend sticking to the regular glazed holes, crunch second, and any sugar coated one last. This is by viewing the people I was with choices on which ones they left alone after possibly trying one. They do not have bagels which would be great for the customer's company who don't prefer doughnuts. That way they can make a little extra and bring customers back more often. Who wants to eat a doughnut alone? It's like you're hiding a sin when you do. I was told they used to, but when there is only one person, it can get a little difficult They may not have a variety, but they have the basics. Though save mart is across the street and also supplies doughnuts, they may want to step out of their boundaries a little and try new way to get more customers in, maybe doughnuts aimed towards the kids that may have cereal crumbled over them??? Have specials each month, maybe something new. See how well it does. Now, here is one I think people would like a lot, something that is simple. Try the regular maple bar with chocolate zigzag drizzle or visa versa; chocolate with maple drizzle. So we just recently moved here from the bay, and went here as it was closest to our house. The donuts were good, but not that much of a variety. I've tried to go back here about 5 times and each time they are CLOSED. Their hours say they are open until 5pm, and we have went between 1230-5pm and have never been open, very disappointing. Where we moved from our donut shop was open 24 hrs, so to not be able to have donuts when we want is kind of upsetting. Or at least stay open during your posted business hours! read more

We bought a dozen donuts on May 24th, they were out of everything so they gave us some assorted donuts with donut holes. I have never tasted anything so bad, all the donuts were super dry, tasted at least 3 days old. To make things worse there was a dead spider stuck to the corner of the box. Avoid this place.
