I booked a Compact SUV for approximately $195 for 3 days via Costco Travel and was able to skip the counter via online accelerated check-in. Cars are located on Level 6 of the rental car center and one of the staff members on Level 6 let me pick any car I wanted from a specific row. I ended up with a Jeep Compass. I showed my driver's license and credit card at the exit booth and had no issue leaving the Rental Car Center. Upon return, I had to drive all the way up to Level 6 for drop-off and the process was straightforward. One of the staff members checked out my car and I received no unexpected charges. They ended up charging us the incorrect amount and we were supposed to get $1,300 refunded back to us. It is now JULY, and after talking to THREE managers (Sal, Josh, Martin), we still have not received our refund and they have stopped replying. How is it that we have been in contact with three managers and this is still an issue after a month and a half?

Unfortunately they didn't have a Camry so I upgraded to a BMW 5 series and I purchased the full protection plan. They explained the terms I signed And paid and then proceeded to grab my car. I went to the 3rd floor and they showed me how to navigate the vehicle, where the charging ports were, how to pair my iPhone with the car and where the gas tank was. This was Phenomenal service. As soon as I left I got on the freeway and the car drove like a dream. The car had a moonroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel and arial camera and backup camera for parking. This is the place I like to rent my car from because you really are getting amazing service without the long wait and with quality employees.

This is my review about Hertz Rent A Car at SJC Airport. I wish I could duplicate my past…read moreexperience at RIC Airport. But for the most part, I didn't have any issues. I booked my rental car through AAA website. This part of reservation has no issues. I started to receive emails about check in early, like a week ahead. Heck, I was not even ready for my trip yet. Those emails didn't say anything about the details at the airport. So, I waited until it says final reminder, that was 4 emails later. "Skip the line, go straight to your car" sounded very convenient. But my trip was not firm yet. At that point, my 3-day rental was $186.36. There was a strange registration process that required my selfie. An hour before my pick up, I upgraded it to a larger vehicle. Because I was supposed to transport my sister and several wedding cakes from San Jose to somewhere in central California. A Mazda sedan won't cut it. My upgrade was a Nissan Rogue and it only costed me $7 a day. Because I am from out of state, I bought insurance at $41.99 a day. At this point, everything was $349.45. There was a $199.55 temporary hold on my credit card. At this point, I was charged $549.00. Soon after I hit confirm, I got another message to let me know the stall number and how to pick up. Then, I wanted my sister to be authorized to drive besides me. I was looking for adding another driver to my policy on its website. But I couldn't find it, unless I cancel my reservation. But I don't want to do that. Finally, I decided to head on down to the airport to pick up the vehicle. I normally pick up rental right after I get off the plane. I have never drive to their before. So, this stupid rental garage didn't have signs on where to park. My sister tried to drop me off but she can't find a parking lot. I can't remember where we went. I could only remember we had to climb over a fence from one stairwell to another stairwell. We arrived all sweaty and not happy. The employee at the counter was really friendly. She said siblings don't need to register as additional driver. Oh? Okay. Then, we proceeded to the parking stall and pick up my vehicle. That was my first time trying Nissan Rogue. I heard about this SUV and I really liked it. I think I might buy one when it's time to replace my car back home. I took a picture of the odometer and drove off. Upon returning, I was in a hurry and forgot to put gas before heading to the airport. My penalty was $55.73 as $12.01 per gallon. I was furious. The highest gas price in San Jose was $5.85. Hertz was charging twice as much. Thinking back, if I signed up the "Skip the Pump and Save Time" offer, that would be $68.12. Too much to calculate how much I should use the gas in the tank. Anyway, my final bill was $414.39 for 3 days and I drove 487 miles. Minus the refueling charge, it would had come up to $358.66. That was over the agreed amount. Ok. I think I can improve my experience next time. I don't want to go to other rental companies because this is a better one.

The 800 number has a robot answering. I finally got through to a human and was on hold for an hour. I have screen shots of all my calls and now I'm on the line with someone that is telling me I have to go pick up the car. I am in LA not San Jose. HERTZ has gotten terrible - there is never access to human beings. And after being on hold all morning I was told they couldn't help me. I waited about ten minutes before being called to the counter. The process was easy and straightforward. There was a $200 hold and a major credit card was required. Afterwards I headed to the pickup area where my vehicle would be dropped off to me. I was given a Jeep which ended up being perfect for my drive along the California coast.
