Have you always wanted to learn parkour, but are afraid to practice outdoors on the hard concrete? You are in luck! The newest branch of the world-famous APEX Movement (and only one thus far outside of their home state of Colorado) has now opened its doors in Concord. Founded in 2006 by the renowned Ryan Ford, one of the preeminent parkour practitioners/coaches in the US, APEX has been helping promote the activity in a safe and responsible manner across the United States and beyond. Unlike the plethora of fly by night indoor facilities sprouting up around the Bay with the sole intent of capitalizing on what's hot to make a quick buck, the guys at APEX actually have the acumen and experience to back everything up. Plus, it is clearly obvious that they have a heartfelt passion for what they are doing. I recently attended a weekend-long parkour coaching certification course, and had the opportunity to test out the majority of the equipment, from the walls and ledges, jungle gym bars, vaulting boxes, to even a re-creation of the famous "warped wall" from Ninja Warrior, and best of all... a foam pit! Obviously, any indoor facility will not be able to emulate the majority of obstacles one might run into on city streets, but with enough practice here, the transition to the concrete jungle should be seamless and pain-free. Before long, it will be you guys who are the young, up and coming whippersnappers in the parkour community showing us old farts how it's done! Make sure to check out the amazing YouTube tutorials from the guys who run APEX, Ryan and Amos: Demon Drills - http://www.youtube.com/DemonDrills Parkour Ukemi - http://www.youtube.com/FreerunParkourUkemi Also, check out my YouTube channel as well! http://www.youtube.com/freeterstar

Our kids joined APEX in February after trying it out on a Groupon and doing a winter camp. They had a blast and love watching Ninja Warrior so how cool is it that the owner/coach was on the show? Awesome! Here's a tidbit if you're an ANW fan, some on the top athletes like Jessie Graff often visit to train once in awhile and my kids and I both got to meet her. Your best deal is pre paying for 1 year for a discount . Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. My kids do class once a week and open gym once a week and love it. My daughter just celebrated her 10th Birthday here and Alan was amazing! The kids had a blast & learned how to conquer the warped wall, jump in the foam pit, and try all the obstacles in the gym. If you're looking for a great place to train where the kids (and adults) will have fun while learning some great skills, this is your place. For a kids party, this is a great choice too. Hands down my daughter thought this was the best birthday ever & she and I couldn't be any happier. Highly recommend Apex. Facility is top notch which is why Jessie comes to visit and gets some training in here too. She told me that when I met her. They usually have Groupons so there's no excuse to not give this place a try. You won't regret it!

For blocks, can they do the 1 hour open gym on a different day than their class day?

Each youth session is the full two hours, so it would be on the same day.

Are they open tomorrow for MLK?

Hi Jen, We will be open for regular hours on MLK

Unfortunately, my recent experience with the manager makes it hard to recommend right now. I was billed twice for my membership due to what appeared to be a billing error on the gym's end. An associate worked with me to resolve it, and as far as I knew, the issue was fixed. About a week later, however, the same double-billing issue happened again. When I brought it up with the same associate, he advised me to speak with the manager directly. A few days later, I sat down with the manager and explained the full situation: I had been charged twice, an associate had already tried (unsuccessfully) to resolve it, and I was now dealing with the same problem again. Throughout the conversation, the manager came across as visibly disinterested and annoyed. When I jokingly suggested we could call it even if I just grabbed a protein shake from their fridge, he responded with, "I don't see why you think you're entitled to one. It's not my problem." When I explained that I felt entitled to a refund -- both because the double billing was their error and because the issue persisted even after I'd already sought help from an associate -- he flatly refused. He then told me he intended to write up the associate who had tried to help me, which frankly felt like retaliation for the associate simply doing his job. Afterward, I mentioned what happened to another staff member, who wasn't surprised at all and openly referred to this manager as the "worst manager" they'd worked under. This gym has real potential, but as long as this manager is in charge of handling member issues, I don't see it living up to it. I the meantime, I recommend UFC Gym, 24 Hr Fitness or even Planet Fitness. I sincerely hope upper management takes note and makes a change.

Being able to visualize my progress keeps me motivated and accountable, and it shows how much she genuinely cares about helping me succeed. Her approach is incredible. There's absolutely no pressure or intimidation just steady encouragement, positivity, and motivation. She knows exactly when to push me and when to adjust, which makes every session both productive and enjoyable. We have fun, we laugh, but we also work hard going from lifting heavy to even heavier weights that I never imagined I would be able to do. I feel stronger both physically and mentally. On top of that the studio is not crowded. It's truly one-on-one, and the focus is completely on you. The entire team at Studio Flex is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The environment feels supportive, comfortable, and uplifting, which makes showing up something I genuinely look forward to. She listened carefully to my problems, asked about my desired outcomes and she designs each workout specifically for my physiology and my state of progress. I can't say enough good things about her adaptive approach and positive energy!

I finally decided to cancel my membership after being loyal for so long and join a different gym a little bit further away. I wish that this establishment have the same loyalty to their clients and would do whatever it took to keep long tern memberships alive. To me fitness is a lifestyle and I had planned on doing this until my body can no longer physically do it anymore. It's disheartening to see that this establishment which I thought was all about family in providing a good long term relationship would care a bit more, but I guess all they really want is to up the cost of their fees and don't care if you leave. If you don't mind paying a lot for your membership and don't care about loyalty and want to support an establishment that will never respond to you and show they care then join this gym. But just so you know there are a lot more options in the area for much less with better equipment and people that actually shows you they care.
