Mutts is one of favorite BBQ places to visit when I'm home visiting my mom. I always make it a point to go before I leave. This place usually gets packed for lunch and dinner--although they have ample parking, it's not unusual to see cars parked on the grass around the front of the restaurant. The food set up is buffet-style, but extremely clean. I'm not usually a fan of buffets, but I make an exception for Mutts. They have a wide array of meat options to include: chopped pork, chopped chicken, fried chicken and ribs to name a few. Sides include: baked mac, green beans, baked beans, hush puppies and the sweet potato soufflé! Oh! and they make fresh pork rinds. Eat your heart out. I suggest to wear comfy pants bc you will need them. For dessert, they have a few cobblers, but also an ice cream chest where patrons can select some of their childhoods favs they used to get from the ice cream truck. As a Carolina girl, Mutt's Mustard-based bbq is my go-to, but they have a traditional red sauce which comes in hot and mild. I will say, don't let the long line fool you, it moves pretty fast from the cashier thru the buffet. We stopped in for lunch on Saturday. Decided to try the buffet. I liked that they made everyone wear gloves. The food is very homestyle southern. I tried a little of everything and most of it tasted great. Had good flavor. The corn a little too overdone, the sweet potatoes had an odd taste and the pulled pork was dry but the ribs were amazing! I think it was like $15/person and that includes bar, drinks, deserts and ice cream. All in all a good deal and good buffet. Will try it again. read more

All I can say about Mutts is "Smackin" that's right "Smackin" it's just what you want in bbq where it's done right. Their Boston butt is slow cooked over night so it has taken its time for 12-15 hours by the time it reaches your plate. Oan the sweet potato crunch will make you close you're eyes and go to another place in time, because it's so Devine. Also the sweet potato crunchy stuff is deadly. Only eat it if you you're ready to eat way too much of it and then feel guilty, but also fulfilled and slightly nostalgic. Portion sizes are solid. Mutts BBQ great place to visit for a home southern cooked meal! The greeting from the lady with the pig tails was a very welcoming, loved her accent. I had everything, a little bit of everything and it's a lot, good amount of selections. Smoked ribs hands down 1 of the best things they have, their fried chicken moist and cooked well on the inside and the outside crunchy. Sides? I would pick the beans hmm they were delightful, Mac n cheese was good too but my friend loves their corn fried balls! They have about 6 different sauces, tried them all and the sweet and smoked is our favorite. They have ice cream and warm peach pie I think, still a good combination together. While eating we did have their crew visit the tables and very nice approach, we called one of them a pro and superwomen because she grabbed all 4 trays and was able to throw e thing out with no problem but haha did drop 1 cup luckily it was empty! They serve really good barbecue! The pulled pork is moist and juicy, perfect for the soft roll. Add sauces according to your preference. The sweet potato casserole is delicious enough to serve for dessert, with the lovely brown sugar and pecans topping., so I enjoyed a generous helping! We arrived at the cash register to pay for the buffet style meal, three people in front of us. My DIL and I proceed to find a table with my 4 year old grandson and one year old grandson. Found a high chair and started to sit down. Two large men approached us, ask if we had paid. I pointed out my husband who is now 2nd in line at the cash register. No we had to leave. They started to pull away the high chair with the baby still strapped in. I said "is this your idea of customer sevice?" The guy said "it is". By now my hubby had paid. We ended up back in the dining room at the same table. The table next to us were also verbally assaulted because they tried to sit a blind elderly lady down before they paid. Ate supper here lastnight. It's buffet style and a drink is included in the price. They have a base menu they do every night (fried chicken, vegetables, pasta salad, etc) and then different special meats different nights (ribs, shrimp, fish, meatloaf, etc). I had the buffet and it did not disappoint! I usually don't do buffet style restaurants but the food is served on disposable plates & gloves are provided for customers. The buffet station is self serve, but manned by an employee. Super clean! The food was so good! My faves were the pulled chicken, hush puppies and ribs. My husband really liked the Mac & cheese too. It is all you can eat, so go HUNGRY! There's a dessert station at the end of the entree line, but across from that is an ice cream cart where you can get individual servings of ice cream cups, sandwiches, push up pops, etc. I would definitely recommend a stop here for a good meal! read more

I specifically chose the plate and not the buffet so that I would be able to take home leftovers because their portion sizes are way too large. Overall this place has decent BBQ and a great price for a buffet. They have a variety of BBQ sauces (I think 6 or 7). This place was really crowded when we went, so you know it's a favorite among the locals. They have a large variety of sides and meats to choose from. As for the meats/BBQ it was all good. The ribs were fall off the bone, but sauce less. The pulled pork & chicken were very moist and they had a pork hash that was a little spicy, but I really enjoyed it and I don't even like hash. This is the worst BBQ in the upstate. We picked up 4 pounds of the driest, stringy, hard BBQ pork I have ever seen. Thank goodness the 4 pounds of chicken & sweet potatoes were eatable or our guest of 20 would have had nothing to eat. The Manager refused so do anything about making this good or giving us credit. And the owner has refused to call us back after several calls & messages left for him, I would not recommend Mutts BBQ for any of your catering events. read more

Keep in mind if you get their buffet food, it's likely leftovers that they stole from a catering event the night before. They will tell you that it's not DHEC safe to leave the leftovers from an event, but will "accidentally" admit that the food was sold (Again) the next day on the buffet line. No greeting, just stood there, we then ask about the buffet, was tolld "Are you sure you want to eat you only have 30 mins to eat! We said ok! They gave us one plate and had to get your own drink! Wow, what can I say about a restaurant who has a Manager that tells someone unloading kids in wheelchairs to hurry up. To add to this they didn't want the students to go through the real line, that just doesn't sound like something you should be told because you are with someone in a wheelchair. I wonder if everyone who goes here and is in a wheelchair is treated the same way??? We will NOT be contributing to the endorsement of this business or the current manager. I completely agree with Cristina R. Amazing BBQ. I'm from Cincinnati, and I have had Texas BBQ, Kansas City and many others and this could definately compete. Blows Cincinnati's own Montgomery Inn out of the water. Two people ate here very heartily for $25 plus tip. I ordered the special of the day (All you can eat BBQ & Ribs with 2 sides). The portions were gigantic... i only took the 1st serving... The mustard sauce and the mild sauces were very good and the pork itself had a really good flavor. The ribs were really good, but a tiny bit stringy, I've had better, but they were still very good. I had green beans and the crunchy sweet potato side... omg... i will be dreaming about that crunchy sweet potato side for the next month... you have to get this if you go to Mutts... The service was extremely friendly and very helpful to a first timer. They do a counter service and also have someone wandering around offering to help you, refill your drink, chat about the weather. So very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was cute and they had a couple model train displays that were really neat and a train that runs around above the main room. If you are visiting or just passing through Greenville... you have got to take the minor detour and visit Mutts. Worth every minute! read more

I recently ordered a family meal pack for 6-8 people from Mutts in Greer. Because we have some non-pork eaters I ordered half pork, half chicken, but got all pork. The sweet potato crunch was crunchless...just mashed sweet potatoes with an occasional pecan piece. On top of that, the food was barely warm, and we live half a mile from there, so it wasn't the trip home that cooled it down. I did call the next day and speak to a manager who agreed they had messed up the order and offered to let me come get some free chicken...too late for that. She said they had no control over the condition of the sweet potatoes and didn't seem particularly concerned that we were all displeased with the quality of our meal. I couldn't even give away leftovers! We've been Mutts customers for years, but no more. read more

As a Northerner I'm no expert in Carolina BBQ, but Mutts was the best I had while on a trip there. Very inconspicuous looking, but some good grub inside. Speed of service depends on when you go, a private room for parties, and large tables for groups up to 8-10. Buffet is a great price and all inclusive. The specific meats rotate, but the ribs, pulled pork, and fried fish were pretty tasty. The sides I think were the stars of the show, green beans boiled but great, cole slaw that isn't too heavy and tastes fresh! Hush puppies and mac n cheese both indulgent and flavorful. Deserts included cobbler (brings back good memories), pudding of some kind, and an Oreo cake, and an ice cream cooler. Soda fountain and also pitchers of Sweet Tea, which was too sweet for my liking, I recommend 1/2 tea 1/2 water and that still had tea and sweetness without being a punch in the face. read more

WOW!!! Awesome! I can't believe for $10.25 you can get an al you can eat BBQ lunch, with a water, and they would serve RIBS! The place was clean and service was fast. The buffet had lots of sides to try and several meats. The meats included: St Louis Ribs, chopped pork, chopped chicken, fried chicken, fried chicken tenders and some other stuff. The pork was good, it was lightly smoked. The ribs were pilled high and tasty. None of the meats had sauce on it which allowed you to choose the sauce you liked the most. The sauces were good, but nothing over the top. The mustard sauce did not please my palate. To much mustard and not enough bbq sauce flavor. The hot and mild sauces tasted the same to me, but the hot was my favorite. The sides were really good!!! My favorite two items were the mac n cheese and the seasoned wedge potatoes. All the sides I tried were really good, but those two were my favorite! Don't worry about stacking your plate to the max on the first go about, once you sit down they bring you an additional plate if you need it. read more
