Very good casual atmosphere. The food is very good with a healthy focus. Would recommend it for meeting with small groups of friends. The milkshakes are extremely good. You can buy a bottle of wine from the grocery store and take it to the restaurant. The patio has a great view of downtown. Nice wine selection. The breakfast options are special. The whole grain bread is really delicious. Not sure what else to say but this app requires 85 words which is way too many just to leave a nice review. I must've caught them at a really bad time because looking at the reviews, it appears everyone else had a really great experience here. We arrived at 9:30 on a Saturday night, so there were plenty of folks there. The DJ was rocking songs, but nobody was dancing. We waited in line for the cashier to finish up with the folks in front of us. The bartender told us he could help us out. We ordered drafts and were told the drafts we ordered weren't available. We re-ordered two different drafts, and both of those were floated as well. Settled for bottles and asked for the menu. Cashier was finished, so she snatched that menu right outta my hand and explained the kitchen would only be open for another 40 minutes... And yes, she understood the menu said it would be open for another two hours, but the staff was tired, and some of them had been there since breakfast and blah blah blah. Honestly, it didn't matter, we just wanted some buffalo wings. Nope, those couldn't be prepared for us. (dejavu, right?) I asked about the cauliflower wings. Yes, we could have an order of those. I said, make it two. By the time Cashier girl was done chastising bartender guy for helping us out, and giving us the wrong menu (which was sitting on the counter - he was framed), we started to our table and Cashier girl hollers at us to take the table number. We took the table number as the kitchen runner brought us the wings, so really, he just held the door for us as we walked to our table. So, I took a bite of the cauliflower wings, and I have to admit they were the best cauliflower wings I've ever tasted. They were just as good as chicken tenders, barely distinguishable from them. They were - without a doubt - the highlight of the Mustard Seed Café experience. We were with good friends, had awesome wings, and cold beer. This review is for the cafe. The patio is a great spot on a nice day to hangout. You can buy food/ drinks from the market and carry it up or purchase from the cafe. They have great juice options (freshly squeezed). My favorite thing on the menu is the chicken pesto Caesar salad. I always get both the dressing and pesto on the side as they go a little heavy with that. Truffle fries are super good as are their flatbreads. Don't have to worry about bad service because you order at the counter and they bring the food to you but there are no servers! Great place for live music on the weekends. Great social atmosphere. Sunday brunch was an a very nice, unexpected find in this small specialty grocery store (similar to Whole Foods). Upstairs on the second floor and in the back is a large room for Sunday brunch-with nice fresh fruits, salads, a nice choice of hot entrees & vegetables, an omelet bar, as well as a nice variety of desserts. The front part of the restaurant (with menu service) was loud with a guitar and a singer, but the brunch area was quieter, allowing conversations without shouting. Big tables accommodate groups. Service was excellent! Servers were pleasant and efficient l. Located in a strip mall (near the intersection of two major roads), so there is plenty of parking. There is an elevator so it is handicap accessible. Note that there IS waiter service in the brunch area, even though the main yelp page says there is none. read more

However, I like their healthy menu full of vegetarian choices, fresh juices and smoothies and special items. I particularly like the loaded truffle fries, Beyond Burger, salmon greens and the pancakes. My daughter loves the creme brulee french toast. The added touch is a full bar for your beverage pleasures. You also have the option of shopping in the market and bringing up to the cafe to eat. The Mustard Seed's upstairs cafe is an ideal late night weekend spot if you're craving food that isn't greasy bar fare. From 9-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, they serve an abridged version of their regular menu. While the kitchen winds down at 11, the premises itself doesn't shut until midnight. The evening ambiance is pleasant, with comfortably-spaced tables, toned down lighting, and a glowing fire place. The cluster of chairs and low table by the fire is a primo seating area, especially during winter time. If there is live music scheduled, be prepared to have that be the focus of your evening, as it is virtually impossible to keep up conversations when the band starts playing--the sound reverberates throughout the high ceilinged space and it can get extremely loud. Even though the late night menu is reduced, there are still plenty of options for all palates and hunger levels. Nacho purists would probably freak out over the idea of quinoa nachos, but they were totally tasty here--a heaping plate of good quality blue corn chips, topped with a tasty nacho cheese sauce, fresh veggies, and what seemed a negligible amount of quinoa. The portion size was massive, and could've easily been split between 2-3 people. They also offer their full complement of smoothies, shakes and alcoholic bevvies, including some incredibly reasonably priced bottles of wine (you even have an option to choose from several bottles, yes bottles, for under $10!). My peanut butter shake (veganized with soy ice cream instead of dairy) was sweet but thin. The cafe does a standup job with customer service, even during the late night rush. You order at the counter, take a number, and your food is delivered to you at your seat. Everything came out promptly and correctly, and our server was attentive in spite of the frenzy of customers. We visited the cafe (above the market) for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We grabbed a menu & seat to peruse, then went to the counter to order. We had the avocado BLT & chorizo tacos with a side of veggies & truffle fries. The food was delicious- I loved the blt & fries. The taco was a little difficult to eat because it was so full (a good thing!), but had great flavor & wasn't overly spicy. The veggies were cooked well, but had a bit too much oil for my taste. Although I don't have any dietary restrictions- their menu does offer a lot of options for those who do follow more restrictive diets. I wished we could have sat outside, as the outdoor seating looked great, but it was 90 in mid September (that's Ohio!), as the inside seating- although clean, looked a little well worn. The selection is vast and the prices are reasonable when compared to Whole Foods, so this place is definitely a must try. The restaurant on the second level is like a dream for the health conscious, with a variety of freshly made soups smoothies, sandwiches, and entrees that provide a reprieve from typical restaurant fare. Heck, even the 'tap' water they serve is filtered through reverse osmosis, which means it doesn't taste like water from a local community swimming pool!Additionally, the restaurant - like Mustard Seed in general-doesnt use preservatives or other harmful food additives (e.g., aspartame, saccharin, corn syrup, sodium benzoate, etc) found across the normal restaurant landscape. I love organic grocery stores, and I am all about giving back to local and small businesses, but.... I feel as though this Mustard Seed stole my money. My boyfriend and I went for Lunch. He had the Rubber City Melt and I had the Avocado BLT. Ok, so here's the run down of my bill. Avocado BLT $10 REG BACON $3 Rubber City Melt $10 Truffle Fries $3.50 Iced Green Tea $2 I have no issues with the cost of ANYTHING on this bill, except for the regular bacon. They charged me 3 DOLLARS for BACON on a BLT? Really? If there is an extra cost for bacon on a BLT there should be something on the menu or the cashier should have told me. The Mustard Seed is great. It is just EXTREMELY Overpriced. The store prices are a joke, when you can go to Earth Fare or Giant Eagles organic sections for Half the price. I am puzzled how they even get people to buy things. I was looking forward to finally trying this place after continuously hearing about it from friends. After ordering and a long wait, I received my matcha smoothie bowl, which was the consistency of soup and dripping all over the place. My eyes bugged out of my head when the server set it down on the table. The fact that they would look at the bowl and deem it a perfectly acceptable dish to send out to the customer is completely mind-blowing. The toppings had all sunk to the bottom and I had to carefully eat it like one would eat a brothy soup! Smoothie bowls are supposed to be fairly thick in texture and this one wouldn't even pass for a decent smoothie (it was that thin). Everything else ordered tasted good- it just took a solid 30 minutes to get to the table. Maybe I just made the wrong decision when ordering, but serving something of that quality is ridiculous. There were many free tables available but most of them weren't cleared. It wasn't particularly busy. I'm very disappointed since I do love the concept and think the market is great. Having more health-conscious eating options in the area is really wonderful.. but the cafe was just a massive let-down. read more

Quote unquote "health food stores" are typically expensive and overpriced. Whole Foods was once ridiculed for putting asparagus in a bottle of water and charging $6 dollars. Mustard Seed is no less ridiculous and deserving of the same ridicule. The name itself is biblically oriented (cringe-worthy). Many of their deli items are astronomically overpriced. Tofu is bar-none probably one of the cheapest ingredients and easiest items to make anything with sees 10.99 per/pound ginger tofu in the deli or $4 dollars for 3 small strips of their packaged tofu bell pepper blast (about twice the price of what a half pound of raw tofu would actually cost you). Meanwhile treats like organic Three-Twins ice cream which had great flavors and a great price at under $5 dollars a pint have been ousted in favor of filling the shelves with $7dollar and up pints of other brands. I could go on for a while about this sort of thing but what should also receive some attention is the sweat heart deal Mustard Seed received from the city of Akron allowing them to open another location in High Land Square. Why? Why does a poorer area of Akron need badly overpriced, biblically themed grocery stores that likely don't pay their staff any more than a regular grocer and definitely don't pay their staff as much as a place like Trader Joe's (or offer its affordability)? Mustard Seed would likely want you to believe they bring great food to Akron. There are specialty stores you can do better with. Mustard Seed would also likely want you to feel good about shopping at a local business. However it's exactly local businesses like Mustard Seed that make us all root for the day a chain store comes to town forcing them to change or close shop. I'm open to either but hoping for the latter. read more

I went to this restaurant for a work luncheon. The service is very good, and the place is very clean. The waiters were very diligent and treated all of us with a ton of respect. Drink wise, I had the matcha latte with milk and maple syrup. At first, the matcha had a very sweet taste, but then it had a really bitter after taste. I found that to be very unusual, as green tea tends to have a very neutral flavor for me. I was not used to the very strong bitter after taste of the matcha latte, and I felt it neutralized the flavors of the food I was eating due to how bitter it was. One thing I will give high marks to Mustard Seed, is the fruit that they served. I got the egg croissant sandwich that came with fruit, and I must say the fruit was extremely fresh and flavorful. Every bite was very sweet but yet the fruit given to me tasted very fresh and not frozen or old. The croissant sandwich itself was okay. It came with egg, chorizo, and then I got swiss cheese to go with it. It was definitely better than processed fast foods, but it also was not anything ground breaking and didn't taste too different from sandwiches I can get at most restaurants. I have to agree with a lot of other reviews that the price tag was definitely a downside. While the food was perfectly portioned for me, the cost of a sandwich, a small bowl of fruit, and a drink came to almost $14. There are definitely places in Cleveland where I can get twice as much food at half the cost, and yet the flavor is comparable if not better. read more

Love this place! Is the Mustard Seed a little pricey for your average college student? Yes, but it is so worth it. I have not been to the grocery store there but I have been to the cafe. I ordered their veggie burger and their truffle fries and both are to die for. It's such a great way to end the week with dinner and drinks with friends. I highly recommend sitting out in the patio for a few Akron views. Such a laid back atmosphere. The cafe does get a bit loud during dinner and lunch time so I wouldn't recommend being there if you wanted to get a coffee and get work done. I live close-by and have been to this place many times. I go because my husband likes it and we have friends in the bands. But for a non-drinker like me, it completely sucks. The bar has zero non-alcoholic beer, not a single bartender that knows the definition of a mocktail (it's not just a 'typical' drink minus the alcohol, dummies) and makes no apologies for it. Bartenders are very rude. Last night, when I finally got the attention of a bartender to order a drink, I gave him a simple recipe for a "mock" margarita. What he brought me instead was sour mix over ice. Blech! Are you kidding? When I told him that wasn't what I wanted, he forcefully grabbed it and dumped it! Then he brought me straight lemon juice and lime juice over ice, just to be a smart ass. I'll never go again. Tired of it. (By the way, they market themselves as a health food place but the grocery store has NONE of the alcohol-free spirits on the market. (They have a couple of N/A beers, but none of the good ones and all are sold warm.) I guess they don't think getting sober is a healthy lifestyle.
