I had heard lots of great things about Elite from friends but still remained hesitant to try it. They all promised me the same thing, this gym was different. Full disclosure, I had tried to work out on my own numerous times and until my early 30s was in pretty great shape, but at 44 I need coaching. I acknowledged that I needed someone to encourage me while making sure I was not injuring myself. I decided to go to one class at the urging of a friend who had been going to Elite since the beginning. I walked in prepared to be overwhelmed. I had negative thoughts the entire drive to the gym, playing the reel of gym failures in my brain. I pulled into the parking lot and was relieved that my friend was waiting on me. Upon entering the gym, I met Kim, the owner, who is incredibly warm and welcoming. Knowing I have issues with my joints, she encouraged me to ask for modifications. On this day there were about 10 other people working out with us. Kim definitely sets the tone for a positive environment which a welcomed relief after some of my experiences. I can not express my surprise of falling in love with this gym, the people, and the friendly and safe environment they provide. All new athletes are put into a foundations group to develop skills, and learn about proper technique. You work in a group setting with coaches that are extremely patient and kind. I've had class with people who have cancer, are pregnant, are older, and young. It's so refreshing to be surrounded by people who are all different but all have the same goal- to feel better and be better. If you're considering a gym- please consider TBC. This is the best YMCA in okc! Even when I lived on the north side of town, I still came here. The…read more1.5 mile outdoor track is wonderful! They have the best area for kids ages 5-18. The other YMCAs that I have been to typically have a child area for younger child, but nothing for the older kids. I've been bringing my son since he was 5 (he's now 9) and there is plenty for him to do, they have tvs, computers, ping pong, basketball, and a spot to hang out. I feel very comfortable bringing him here! The exercise equipment is also great, they are consistently bringing in newer machines and have a large selection of weight machines as well as free weights. I have attended several classes that they offer also. Set and Reps, which is every Wednesday evening is like a full boot camp workout. It is amazing! The pool area is also pretty awesome, they have three different areas, a lap pool, and family pool with water slide and a wading area for the younger kids, complete with sprayground equiptment!
