I initially had my instrument sent to another shop for evaluation, but after speaking with Jason…read moreand being told he was interested in taking on the work, I had it shipped back so he could handle the repair. That meant paying additional return shipping out of pocket just to get it to him. Before drop-off, Jason reviewed photos and quoted the job at around $995 with an estimated turnaround time of about 3 weeks. After that, the experience went downhill. From December through April, I had to repeatedly follow up just to get updates. Communication was almost entirely initiated by me. Early on, I was told things were "looking promising" and that he'd be getting to it soon. Weeks turned into months with little to no progress. At one point, he said he should have more time over Spring Break and expected to finish it within a couple of weeks. That did not happen. After months of waiting, I was finally told there had essentially been no progress and that he would not be able to complete the job due to other commitments. So to summarize: * The job was accepted with a ~3 week estimate * The instrument sat there for several months * Communication was inconsistent and mostly one-sided * The work was never completed * I incurred additional shipping costs based on his willingness to take the job That's not how a business should operate. If you take on a job, you should either complete it in a reasonable timeframe or communicate early and clearly if you can't. Letting something sit for months and then backing out is not acceptable. This cost me time and money that I didn't need to lose. I could have left it with the original shop and had the work completed, but instead I trusted this process and ended up back at square one. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this shop to anyone who values reliability, communication, or follow-through.

I didn't have that much time since my concert was the next Sunday. He said to bring it in and he'd do it right then and would only take about 20 mins. I took it in, he explained what he was doing every step, which was awesome, and although he ran into an issue, and I had to leave it, he was done a couple of hours later, but I was already home so I picked it up the next day. He cleaned it up, along with my case, and it was a joy to just chat with him. Very knowledgeable and personable. I will for sure be back.

They asked if I wanted to drop off my sax to have it repaired or if would like to wait. I had time, so I waited. Although I played music in college (as non-music major) and have friends who know how to repair instruments, I had never seen the process. Beto explained how he was fixing the pads, the springs, the leaks, the motion of the horn. He showed me how he checks each key against the others to make sure that the horn, from a technical standpoint, plays well. I also saw work being done on two trumpets. Rogelio tested my horn, and it played and sounded fantastic. I'm happy with the work they did, and they offer a 90 day guarantee on their work. I look forward to playing on my recently repaired horn.

Most places didn't respond to my request for an estimate and the couple that did wanted me to sign a contract to have the piano tuned every year or pay them a $75 traveling fee to drive from south Austin to Cedar Park. Then I turned to "Thumbtack" to find a piano tuner. Derek was the first to respond. He owns and operates TX PIANOS, and he responded personally. Gave me a reasonable quote on line to tune the piano (which had not been tuned for 5 or 6 years) and replace a broken string. When I asked about travel pay, he said that if he had 2 or more appointments in the same town he did not charge travel pay. It just so happened he had another tuning appointment scheduled a couple of days later in Cedar Park, so he waived the travel pay. He sent me a text to remind me of the appointment. He sent another text with a location tracker to show me where he was when he was on the way to my house. Derek is very personable and easy to work with. Even my big ole' furry Australian Shepherd, who barks at everyone who tries to enter our house, took up with Derek and walked right up to him, allowed a couple of pets, and never barked at him once during the visit. Derek described what he would need to do and completed the job of tuning and replacing the two broken strings in just a little over an hour. The piano sounded great when he finished and it was more "out of tune" than I thought. Due to the age of the piano and the mallets, we talked about performing a voicing to bring back the rich soft timbre the piano had when it was new, 40 years ago. Again, I received a very reasonable price for the service whenever I decide to have it done. He also put me on a "check-in" schedule for every 6 months to see if I have any other needs throughout the year. It was a pleasure talking with Derek about the piano and we even joked around about our playing techniques - or lack thereof! But most of all, he was reliable and honest and an expert at getting my old grand back in tune. I will not be looking for a piano technician again now that I have met Derek. If you need piano repair or just a tuning, you will not be disappointed with TX PIANO.

Since ours was brand new and only had one service before, he gave some good recommendations for when it needed tuning again and on how to care for the piano. Honest and no pressure. I would highly recommend him. Best of all as a bonus, he loves dogs and got along with both of ours.

Music on Magnolia is a great music school to teach children and adults new instruments!…read more My kid is just over two years old and he attended Music on Magnolia for their toddler classes in which they play with rhythms and sounds. This class was just 30 minutes every Saturday morning and my kiddo absolutely loved it. The teacher was super patient with the little ones, and made it a very fun experience for everyone. Unfortunately the class was removed off the program and he will no longer be able to attend. However, I look forward to coming back to Music on Magnolias once he is older and he can attend their Music Exploration classes.

Before signing up, I asked if the instructor would be able to handle a high-energy toddler and were reassured that it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the case. While I understand the importance of structure and rules, the approach taken didn't feel supportive or age-appropriate. There were moments where he seemed to be singled out or excluded--for example, when other children were given instruments and he was not. He was also removed from class, which for a 30-minute session means he missed the entire experience, without other options offered (like having a parent assist). I completely understand that not every class is the right fit for every child, but at this age, patience and redirection go a long way. It was disappointing because he genuinely enjoyed being there. I hope the program can consider a more supportive approach for younger children who are still learning how to navigate structured environments.

There was a surcharge for her to travel from San Antonio to Austin, which I was willing to pay to give her my business. The piano tuning itself was fine, but I had 3 broken strings that she took to be replaced. The kicker is that it she took the strings in September and it was mid-February that she finally scheduled to install the strings. I was always the one to try to make contact. She was a no-show for that appointment and then just ghosted me. I repeatedly reached out several times a week via text and phone calls, with no response and finally recommending that she just mail me my strings. Excuses were finally made and it was late March when I was told the truth of the situation. According to Nicole, the strings were lost between the supplier and her home. So why had she scheduled that February appointment? Why did she agree to mail the strings? She offered nothing to compensate me for my lost strings and complained that she was out the money to the supplier. Meanwhile I have to hire someone else to replace those strings at undoubtedly a greater cost to me. Overall, it was an extremely frustrating situation and unprofessionally handled on her part.
