My wedding is May 2015 at a very sound-challenging venue (Pazzos / 311 South Wacker Atrium). I saw Music by Design was on the vendor list along with 3 other DJs and 1 other venue recommended DJ Despite my sincere concerns about the sound (music/speeches) for my venue (I am a dancer and musician, on top of having about 10 speeches planned), my experience thus far with Music By Design has left me ecstatic and pleasantly care-free.
Customer service.. wow. I requested a few quotes (varying times/options) online and the next day I had received a call from David, the manager. He was AWESOME. First, he looked at one of my quotes and added a $100 discount for a current promotion even though I didn't complain about price- my initial thought: impressively honest- so cool. He spoke with me for quite some time regarding the venue and ways they can manage the sound- he was honest and realistic (unlike other companies who told me just what I wanted to hear), but clearly was talented, knew what he was talking about, and knew how to manage the difficult venue. I asked about buying additional speakers to help handle the venue, but he told me that he rightfully couldn't sell me more speakers because I wouldn't notice a difference (wow- honest again- I'm a bit naive when it comes to people in the service industry so David's honestly and lack of upselling immediately sold me). In case that wasn't enough, when I asked "how much control do I have of the music?", his response was along the lines of: *100%.. It's your wedding so if that's what you'd like, you can have 100% control.. if you'd like our input, we're here for that too.* And now I was ready to pay in full that second- happiest bride in the world :).
David and the owner Jeff, continued following up with me- enough that I knew I was cared about as a customer but not too much. Finally, I was ready to meet with the 2 DJs my fiance and I had been speaking with (I was already sold on music by design because of my phone experiences and their incredible amount of reviews on various sites- e.g., google at 250 insanely amazing reviews- but my fiance had developed a relationship with another DJ so we agreed we'd give both a chance).
We met with Jeff, the owner and the to-be DJ of our wedding, and were sold within 2 seconds. What a PROFESSIONAL & CLASS ACT- (although I referred to myself as a bit naive, I'm also a 2 time Ivy League graduate and spent years with some very professional people, so I don't give that compliment lightly). On top of professional, Jeff was so knowledgable, personable, honest, and did not pressure us whatsoever. We're having a very classy/elegant/formal wedding, and knew his personality/demeanor would be just perfect. He met with us for 50 minutes and answered a long list of questions before I realized we should probably not keep him longer, although he never rushed us at all. I apologized for being so high-maintenance, and he denied me being so and said that we're going to be a lot of fun to DJ for. Hmm.. how nice :). I should also note his pricing was extremely reasonable and he never tried to upsell us- in fact, when I asked about his thoughts of adding lighting packages to our venue, he said that the venue really is beautiful as is and that it may take away. Honesty again- something that is so valuable but rare in the service industry (esp weddings!). My fiance and I walked out the door knowing that Jeff was going to be our DJ and we were so elated to find a company that is so talented yet so ethical & honest.
As promised, David followed up with me the next day- I read that some DJ companies have varying levels of speaker quality- so I asked him if I could pay to upgrade the speakers. David told me the speaker brand and that they're the best in the industry- they use those for all weddings so there is no "upgrade speaker." PERFECT.. so I'm getting a top-notch company, a very professional DJ, the highest-end equipment, and insurmountable customer service, all for a very reasonable price? SOLD. I'm so happy with our decision and will be sure to post a follow up review once Jeff rocks our wedding. read more
