I ordered a trombone for my son as a Christmas present more than two weeks ago. I was told that it was at their warehouse in Kansas City and that it would arrive within 2-7 business days. That' didn't happen. I called several times and they didn't know or couldn't find it. I told them that Christmas was a week away and that I needed a status of it. I received no assurances. Today, 12/21/24, I got a call that inform me that they were still working the issue. It broke my heart knowing that my son would not get his Christmas present. I spoke to my son and told him that I would make it up to him somehow. Will not be buying there again. read more

My son is starting band next year and the school recommends Music &Arts to rent-to-own most instruments. The lady that helped us was very helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable. She had all the needed resources to answer all the questions I had. My one issue is how expensive the instrument is. My son is going to play trombone and the rent-to-own price is $61 per month. Now, $11 of that is for insurance and tax so $50 goes to paying for the instrument. I asked how long I would be paying for the instrument and she pulled out a paper with information for the different instruments. The trombone showed the payments for 62 months! I was even more shocked when I looked up prices for the very same make and model of instrument online. I can buy a brand new trombone for just under $2,000. If you did the math you figured out the Music & Arts is making an extra $1,000+ profit on the instrument. The stores selling the instrument online are making a profit so Music & Arts is profiting that plus a the extra $1K. I may end up just buying a trombone online for $2K and canceling the rent-to-own with Music & Arts. read more

So I'm starting to pick up on how to play the guitar and I had to pick up some basic equipment to get me going. Music and arts was the closest to my house and when I called I spoke with Zach and his level of customer service was absolutely outstanding! I was in the door within the next 30 minutes and he gave me just about all the advice that I really needed to start and pointed me in the direction of the best deals for what I needed. He wasn't pushy or or salesy in any kind of way and he was more than happy to answer all of the basic questions that I did not know the answers to. Horrible experience with this store. I know the schools recommend it, but stay far away! We dropped off our son's saxophone on Aug. 18 - before the first day of school - for a few minor repairs. We were told we would hear back in a few days. I called on Aug. 25, the last day of the first week of school, to inquire about the status of the repair. I spoke to Chris, who proceeded to put me on hold and left me there for 20 minutes. I had to finally hang up and call back to get him on the phone again. "Sorry, we got busy." Chris told me that the repair should be done "by Monday or Tuesday" and to call back then. Tuesday, Aug. 29 comes around and I haven't heard anything. So I call back. Talked to David this time. David actually bothered to look up the work order and found that the store should have called me to authorize the work. So my son's saxophone had been sitting for 7+ days in limbo because of their carelessness. Meanwhile, my son has been attending band class every day WITH NO INSTRUMENT. David offered to call the repair shop and have it bumped up in the queue to be ready by Thursday, Aug. 31. As it turns out, the saxophone wasn't ready until Friday, Sept. 1 (the day I am writing this review). So I went in to the store and found David, and asked to speak to the manager, Heather. After making me wait for 20+ minutes standing at the register (seriously, the staff is in no hurry around here), Heather finally turned her attention to me. I explained everything we had been through and asked for a price break. She offered me a discount on accessories (which we had already paid for) but said there was no way she could discount the repairs. So I paid full price for a repair that took two weeks, but should only have taken one. So, point being, avoid this store, even if you are only going in to buy reeds or something small. Every single time I have been in there I have had to wait at least 30 minutes just to check out. There are plenty of other music stores in the DFW area. And none of them can possibly be any worse than this one. read more

I've come to despise this store. We bought a used clarinet a few months after our first repair visit. Fast forward 9 months later and we need a key pad replaced. I take it here but they tell me it needs a complete pad replacement for almost $300. I had just bought this clarinet. Yes, it was used but supposedly, it had all new pads. So I got it back from Music & Arts and returned it to the seller, David Foerch. He said, 'No, it doesn't need new pads. Look at my clarinet from 1976. It still has some of the original pads. These are fine. Take it to Brook Mays for repair. Cost will be $10-15'. So I took to Brooks and May. They agreed; just one new pad needed. Done. $22 Fast forward to last week. Same thing. I need 2 pads, maybe a 3rd in another yr or two. I take to Music & Arts. I tell them I need 2 pads, maybe a 3rd. They quote me $30 per pad but again, recommend all new pads. Cost is $288. I tell them they told me that last yr but here i am one yr later and i only need 2-3 pads. I kind of don't trust you with my experience from last yr. The employee says, 'Oh, you need all new pads. I can tell you that right now. (He hadn't even look at the clarinet). Then he says if I don't follow his recommendation and only have the torn pads replace ... "We can't guarantee the playability if you don't follow our recommendations" What an insult! I responded, Why would you?! I'm asking you to repad a key. Why would you guarantee the whole instrument? The guy repeats himself: "We can't guarantee the playability if you don't follow our recommendations" . I respond the same... and in an effort to make him understand, compare that to me taking my car for an oil change and having the mechanic tell me he can't guarantee the drivability of my car when he's done unless i have the engine rebuilt. I cancelled the repair order. I called local experts, found a instrument repair shop where the owner was a current and former band parent, had the same problems as I had with flute repairs for his kids, decided to go into the business of instrument repair. Entered a repair training program taught by master certified technicians and opened his own repair shop out of his garage 10 yrs ago. Services the schools in Mansfield. 3 pads replaced for $30, 1/3rd the price of Music & Arts. Took one day, 1/3rd the time of Music & Arts. I got to talk to the repair person, the owner, instead of a salesman. Was treated 3x better than Music & Arts. Got a fair price on top notch repair by an honest businessman. Heck, I was tempted to attend instrument repair training myself after seeing how Music & Arts treats their customers. If one of the nice employees at Music & Arts had taken care of me (one was trying to ring me up when Steve jumped in with obnoxious behavior), I would never have been so mad that I looked for another repair place... and I'd still be being taken advantage of price-wise and upsell-wise by these undesirable policies at Music & Arts. read more

I had a wonderful visit to Music & Arts on 5/23/20. The one employee on duty was wearing a mask and gloves, and I was the only customer at the time I visited, so it was very safe. The very nice young woman, Lindsey, who assisted me was wonderful. I had broken a string on my viola, and she replaced it and tuned my viola for me. She also gave me some good information about tuning it myself and other things. I will definitely return for all my future needs. read more

It seems that calling ahead and confirming they have what you need does not make a difference. After being told they did have the item I needed, they did not because the staff "thought" I was talking about something else even after I described it in exacting detail. Really disappointed with the quality and customer service. Music and arts is on the recommended vendor list for HEB Suzuki strings. I had to return my violin at least three times because they weren't Suzuki quality violins. Not necessarily the fault of the employees, but just know that because this store has lots of different types of music and instruments, they will have no idea what you need. Go to young musicians who know all about the quality AND what the teachers in HEB expect. Save yourself the trouble. What is the fault of the employees is the horrible customer service, while attempting to get the correct violin, I was told they were ordering it and would call me back which they literally always failed to do. After I finally ended me contract and returned the violin they continued to draft my account for two months for the rental. I called to ask for a refund and was told to call customer service. I refused as this was obviously an error on their part so they should fix it. This was returned with hostility and I was basically hung up on while inquiring how long it would take to refund my money. Unbelievable! Never again. I will be writing HEB to recommend this business be taken off of the vendor list. It's horrible! read more

I contacted Music & Arts back in August of 2018 to inquire about purchasing a trombone for my son who had made it into Honors Band. I spoke with Justin who was super friendly and super polite and had tons of information to give me about the different types of trombones, features, pricing, quality, etc. As i wasn't ready to make a decision just yet, i took down the information and Justin said he would follow up with me which he did. At that time i had more questions and him and i spoke over the phone several times before my son and i made our way in to the store to check out the trombones and meet Justin and the rest of the clan. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly and we came back a couple of times before finalizing our decision and ordering my son's new trombone. The entire process from start to finish went very smoothly and professionally. Justin was even nice enough to let my son try out his own personal trombone so that he could see how that particular brand felt and sounded. My son now takes lessons at the store and we are in there every Saturday morning. I have chatted with most of the store employees and have watched them conduct business and help customers. I have spoken with David the store manager on a few occasions and once about a billing issue that ended up simply being a miscommunication (hey, it happens to all of us!), and everything was taken care of in an extremely kind and professional manner. The employees here always greet us when we walk in on Saturday mornings and say goodbye to us as we are leaving. And they address my son by name and always ask how he is doing, which is very cool! I definitely recommend this store to anyone needing lessons or an instrument or have questions about anything music related. If they can't help you with what they have available in the store, they will direct you to someone who can or at least point you in the right direction! read more
