I really love the simplicity and bit of history that the school house offers Bedford! The OBSH sits nestled behind a large open field off of old Bedford Road. The field is home to Twilight Thursdays, Bedford's own little spring concert series, and to the huge Bedford Christmas tree. More informally its my girls and I's secret spot for exploring and Ice Cream on Friday afternoon's when my 3 year old gets out of preschool. I love that they can run, collect rocks and lady bugs, climb large rocks, and dig in the dirt road (Don't worry! We always put it back!) and be safely away from traffic off of the road. I can sit on a picnic blanket and watch and not have to worry about my kids falling off of a some large plastic playground, or getting run over by a car! My only suggestion, especially for twilight Thursdays, is that those fire ant hills are crazy! I got bit several times last season.. yikes! The school house itself is classic, and is like a last piece of country history in a city that becomes more suburban and built up every day. You can see pictures from the its glory days, look at a traditional one room school house set up, attend a murder mystery dinner, or rent one of their different rooms for meetings, or the entire building for a wedding. The last time my girls and I were there, my little one had to go to the bathroom and there was a wedding set-up going on, so we were able to sneak in (with permission!) and use the restroom. The set up was adorable...a PERFECT wedding venue. If I had known this place was available back in the day when I was married, I totally would have chosen it! The wooden stair case and old beams and windows make for great photo ops! I have also attended a 50th birthday celebration here a few years back! There was plenty room for a buffet, a bar, tons of guests and a live band.. totally fun! Last year we went to the school house to take some christmas pictures, and ending up choosing one with the school house in the background for our card! We also took some family photos here last weekend... out back they have bluebonnets, and some great stairs for backdrops. ....I am kind of sad I am writing this review, because now everyone will know my secret hiding spot in HEB for pictures, parties and play! :) read more

The Old Bedford School was an asset for the City of Bedford, Texas. But what has happened to this building that use to be for such good uses. What is the City of Bedford hiding and why is it not open anymore? There is something fishy going here. It was told that the roof caved in but they City does not have the money to fix this facility up? Lots of unanswered questions. read more

We had our wedding here in May and it could not have been more perfect. I actually stumbled upon this gem by searching affordable wedding venues in the DFW area. We kept receiving compliments from our wedding guests on how neat they thought the venue was. Their coordinator, Cortney was fantastic! She was happy to answer all of our questions and was super helpful leading up to and on our big day. She always had an answer and a suggestion on any possible worry I had. I would definitely recommend this venue not only for weddings but for any event. read more

The staff at the Old Bedford school were so welcoming and friendly. We booked the location with Cortney Sims and she was so open and helpful with all the aspects of planning a reception. On the day of we could not have had a smooth of a party if Cortney had not been there. It's the little things that were forgotten when you have a DIY wedding and those little transitions would not have flowed so smoothly without her. read more

When my husband and I started looking at venues for our wedding we knew that we wanted something that was unique, charming, and had a vintage charm to it. When we found the Old Bedford School we we were overjoyed and knew we had to make an appt. right away. We met with Cortney Sims, and at first impression she seemed nice but was very negative and talked poorly of the guests that attended an event the night before. As we toured the building, Cortney proceeded to tell us how there had been a group that met there the night before and how they requested to stay an hour later. She discussed how mad it made her and how she threatened to call the cops if they didn't get out of there on time. We kind of dismissed this, as we were so in love with the venue we did not foresee it to be an issue. After months of planning, our wedding day finally arrived. Words cannot describe how rude and inconsiderate Cortney was on our wedding day. I was completely astonished, as was my husband at the rudeness, hate, and condescending manor Cortney conducted herself with. I arrived at around 2:45 to see that nothing had been setup in the venue and immediately went into a panic. When I asked my wedding coordinators why nothing had been done, they told me it was because of Cortney and not allowing them into the venue. The venue was a mess. The floors were terrible, the bathrooms were filthy, and it looked as if Cortney neglected to clean up after the previous event the night before. When I asked my coordinators where she was, they said they couldn't find her. I tried to find her and did not have any luck. These events that occured were witnessed not only by my family but the groomsmen, bridesmaids, friends, Pastor, caterer, and rental crew. They will all be writing separate letters as well, as this was completely unacceptable. I am deeply concerned for the future of the Old Bedford School if Cortney remains to be an assistant coordinator. It is every girls dream to have a beautiful wedding, and although weddings are always stressful, it should never be prompted by the venue coordinator. She even made me stay until past 10:15 on that night after everyone was out of the venue by 9:15 to do a walk through. She sent the one of the cleaning crew members to come and find me and when I entered she was again, nowhere to be found. I had to walk the school, and finally found her in her office where I confronted her on her behavior for the day, and she ended up yelling and screaming at me! I simply cannot describe how hurt this made me not to mention infuriated as my family nor anyone else had done anything to anger her. I requested one of my bridesmaids husbands to walk the venue with me because I was in fear of not getting the full deposit back which she told us we were in breach of contract and she had already notified her supervisor that we were not to receive our money back. In the end, she walked to the door and told me "Don't worry baby girl I won't be fired". As soon as I walked out, she locked the door immediately. Our wedding turned out beautifully with the help of our family and friends, and I am still in love with the beautiful and historic charm of the venue, but I will never forget the stress, and the havoc Cortney displayed on that day. I strongly urge anyone planning a wedding here work directly with Amy the Director as she is incredible, and has helped make things right for my family and more importantly my husband and I. read more
