GOOD TO KNOW: URBANI TRUFFLES ARE FLOWN IN FROM ITALY, NOT IN THE CARGO AREA OF THE PLANE, BUT IN FIRST CLASS, ON THE PLANE!! (May I help carry your bags, URBANI Truffles?) One of the owners, Olga, happen to be in town and we got to meet her!!! She was in from ITALY. URBANI TRUFFLES does business with many of the FINE DINING RESTAURANTS HERE IN NYC!! I think I learned of the event on the app EventBrite, and I paid under $100 for my ticket. I don't recall the exact price of the ticket, but I think it was in the $80-$90 range. The event was limited to 15 people, which was a perfect amount, just right. We were seated at a table in a squared-off, U-shape. Perfect! Olivia, a welcoming and delightful person, with a wonderful knowledge of TRUFFLES, shared her knowledge along with a brief, slide show, and I honestly think that we all really enjoyed every moment. We not only learned, we tasted several types of truffles(!!!) which were part of a food item. For example, a white truffle gave a garlic flavor, so the white truffle oil would be sublime on a pasta, or a steak, in my humble opinion. We tasted almonds infused (?) with truffle. Truffle Pita chips--sooo good. I bought a bag ($7, I think). I shall be back for more, for certain! There was white chocolate made with white truffles-and dark chocolate made with truffles. Yes, imagine white chocolate with a hint of garlic!!! Yum!! As I said at the event, I could see creating a delightful, light, white chocolate dessert pasta with this!! Mmmm! We enjoyed sparkling water to cleanse our palate, or to quench our thirst, as well. I'm not giving you all the details of this lovely event because I think you should be surprised for some of it. IT WAS TOTALLY WONDERFUL!! I hope that if you are curious about truffles, you try to attend one of these wonderful events because you'll love it The bottom line is I highly recommend this event. It was a thorough delight. No one was disappointed and I'll let you be surprised for the rest, but I highly recommend this if you love truffles or are curious to learn about truffles, then, see when the next event is. I will leave you with one more major tidbit. We actually got to touch and hold some large, beautiful truffles. This was a lovely event. Thank you URBANI Truffles, and Olivia, and Olga. I haven't seen or had anything like it honestly, but I'm proud to know these babies are produced right here in New York. The combination of the crunch, the natural sweetness, and airy after taste produces a tastebud tingling of cracktastic proportions. Who would've known these nuts that are so light would be packed with so much flavor? Certainly not I. For the health nuts out there, Umame Nuts is "minimally processed" which is code for non-factory, non-mucho chemicals, and made with a lot of TLC. The sweet and savory nature is a nod to its Shanghainese origin and to its creator, known to the food and snack world simply as Li. A combination of seaweed, brown rice crisps, and peanuts, it's everything wonderful: simple, vegan, and above all delicious. I arrived a minute after their closing time (As usual...) and most of the refrigerators where closed down already and some lights out, but the super nice Mr. Harvest (didn't catch his name) told me that I could come in and get my stuff... So, running around like a penguin, I grab some interesting looking produce (Mini baby eggplants, Wild mushrooms, Sabra etc.) and I ask the guy if he has some fresh clementine's and he's like, "Sure thing Abe" and opens all the refrigerators for me to browse through the other stuff as well, and although it was already all closed shop he was really nice and attentive, and then I spotted my new best friend, Mr. Pink! Now Mr. Pink is a Orange that is Pink from the inside (Orange is the new black?! me thinks Orange is the new Pink!) and has a sweet and refreshing flavor and definitely worth the extra quarter . So, in overall this place is a nice little place with a rustic interesting décor (Huge wooden wheel chandelier, brick walls and so on..) and they have all the "Cream Of The Crop" produce that you normally won't find in your local supermarket, at very reasonable prices and great customer service. I believe this person is indigenous to the Americas and not Asian, although not 100%. Most other vendors are Asian, with overall good quality and incredible prices. Take the time to find them. The earlier in the day I suspect the fresher the product. International selection and more traditional items familiar to those of US. Many greens today, different squares, several varieties of mango, ginger and galangal, mushrooms, apples, melons, fresh water chestnuts & tomatoes....there was conch and crab also available today, along with some housewares. Bring your backpack, extra bags, cart and/or suitcase. Do not forget our local farmers at farmer's markets but the selection and circumstance may be factors in your visit.

Thats how I ended up at Grand Tea. Stopped by late morning and was totally enamored with this small tea shop. It's like you never can see everything first time around. While looking for a matcha bowl. I found a wonderful 16oz teapot. The wonderful lady that worked there was pleasant and very helpful. I looked at teas that were available and decided on the 13 year old Da Hong Pao black tea. Price was $10 an ounce. I asked her what was her favorite tea was? And she replied the same tea. She filled a bag with tea leaves and wrapped my new tea pot. What I found out is you can get approximately 6 to 10 steeps on these tea leaves. Surprisingly by changing diet and adding black tea to my diet. My arthritis has subsided for now. I am not saying this tea was the cure. But it did contribute to more peace and serenity. The black tea has attributes of a soothing nature. Also this black tea has less caffeine than other fresh tea leaves. Will definitely be back when my tea supply runs low.

I honed in at the many different big jars of teas and winded up asking one of the owners where the bik lo chun was. I had him weigh two ounces for me to take home and try. $20 later (loose leaf and none of that chopped/grinded up tea crap from Twinings or Bigelow -- i excited and grandma waited outside to comp me a lil bag of oolong for my journey. Service with a smile and a warm heart. We need to support more of these lil mom and pop before they go.
