Overall, we had a great experience at Muse. The instructor was very nice and helpful. The other people working were very nice too! The food wasn't super special or anything, but that's not a main feature for them anyways. We chose a painting that was pretty difficult, so they didn't turn out quite how we expected. The only complaint I have is that we were seated in a spot that didn't allow us to see what the instructor was doing. This was a bit frustrating because there were other seats available that we could have been placed in where we would have been able to see. But for the most part, it was a fun experience! read more

Absolutely wonderful. I went here for a pet portrait session with my boyfriend and it couldn't have been a more perfect experience. We both painted different photos of our Siberian Husky and they came out amazing. We were so doubtful that we could paint a decent portrait of our dog but the finished product was so great that it is now prominently displayed in our home. The staff was kind and helpful and they constantly had attendants coming around to offer compliments and help in any way necessary to make your experience better. The atmosphere was energized and featured plenty of natural lighting which made for a more enjoyable time. Even their food was great and the delivery system was efficient and simple. This was a wonderful date night experience and I would recommend to anyone. Also important to note that Muse is a FRACTION of the cost that their competitor charges here in Richmond and now that I have been to both Muse and competitor's place, I can say definitively that you should avoid the other place at all costs and go to Muse instead! read more

I've been passing by this space at Willow Lawn for months waiting for it open. Finally, I saw an ad on Facebook where it was open and there was a sweet promo code. I booked a painting session on the website for Wednesday night and arrived around 6:50 P.M. for my 7:00 session. The space is a lot larger than I thought and can accommodate tons of people although I can see the painting space being really tight if a session was full. I would never want to go to a full session here simply because the space can likely accommodate 50 people but there is little elbow room if that were to happen. Sorry, a girl has gotta have her space while she's working on her masterpiece. Luckily, there was only about 15 of us there on my visit. Muse had strategically placed menus on each easel in front of the canvas. The food offered encompasses everything from light tapas, think spinach and feta dip, to personal pizzas and bbq sandwiches. There is also a brownie and ice cream on the menu. Having already eaten dinner, I opted out of making a food selection. I took away a star because I was not at all impressed with the beverage selection compared to paint nites that are held at restaurants. Muse does not publish their beverage offerings online, so I had no idea what to expect. Anyways, there was a short list of reds and whites as well as beer available. I was so hoping for sangria or something fruity. I asked and they did have bottled sangria. I paid $6 for a very generous pour of bottled sangria into a plastic cup, it left much to be desired. I could likely go to Kroger next door and buy a whole bottle of that for $6. Anyways, the instructor was great. I really liked being in a space solely dedicated to painting too because I felt like I could move freely around and get paints, clean my water can, etc. without being in a restaurant with a lot of other stuff going on. I also felt like the instructors here knew more about technique and offered insight into the brushes used, it just seemed way more legitimate. Another plus is that they do have hair dryers plugged in around the place for drying your painting, which I loved because I was tired at 9:15 and needed to leave ASAP. I will definitely be coming back because I did really like my experience and I really want to try the food. My experience with Muse was great! My friend and I went for her birthday, using their website to register. It allowed us to group our seats together even though we booked them separately, which I thought was awesome. They have a combination of regular tables and high-tops, which is great because it allows you to view the instructor even when the room is full. They mark your place by a name card on your canvas, along with a menu. The food selection isn't huge, but it's appropriate for the space and they have vegan and vegetarian options. All the painting supplies are already in place for you, so all you have to do upon arrival is grab an apron and something delicious from the bar. They don't serve liquor- just beer and wine, but I don't feel like it's missed. The staff is super nice and kind and helpful. Be a good person and remember to tip them, please! The whole experience is streamlined and hassle-free, allowing for the guest to focus on having fun and simply painting. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. I really thought it would be fun and that I would be able to paint even though I have no artistic talent. Not the case at all. I wasted my money. It started out fine and I felt confident about the painting. My seat was behind the artist and all I could see was her back. I couldn't follow along and felt like I was on my own. I got behind and it just went down hill from there. The assistant did come by once but didn't really offer any help. She told me it looked good when it was obvious that I was behind and my painting did not look at all like it should. I got frustrated and just lost patience. I tried to fix it near the end but there was no way I could make it look presentable. I will end up throwing it away. I am very disappointed. I really wanted to have something to remember that night. I have nothing to show for the money I spent. read more

I had heard so much about this type of thing but had never done it until I felt my husband and I needed a different kind of date night. I'm so glad we went because we had a great time! The art teacher at the front was very helpful and patient with everyone. He was also VERY funny. I saw lots of other couples throughout the room like us but I also saw groups of girlfriends and families. It's really for everyone. You can be absolutely terrible and not creative and still have fun and come away with a great painting! I highly recommend this for a fun night. I will absolutely be going here again. read more

My daughter (5) and I have painted together at Muse 4 times. It's wonderful. She learns all about mixing colors, using different paint brushes for different purposes, how to hold detail brushes, how to layer on the paint, and that she can add her own spectacular flair to all the guided paintings. I enjoy painting and not cleaning up paint! The staff is super helpful and encouraging to young painters. The family paint selections are appropriate for younger ages in both interest and skill level. I think everyone in our family will receive a Muse painting for Christmas because we are running out of space on her bedroom walls. She is looking forward to having her 6th birthday party at Muse and asking them to create a horse painting just for her. Overall fabulous experience and much better for younger kids than pottery painting - more learning and immediate satisfaction. read more
