First time visiting was for a Yelp Elite event (shout out to Lena), and I've been back twice thus far and wish I had the time and ability to visit more! This is one of the less demanding activities I can tolerate nowadays with a chronic illness, and it's always quite therapeutic every time. The music is awesome, but I'm at the "this grocery store is playing all my jams" age so take that as you will... But whether you make this a solo activity or go with company, the music allows you to zone out but it's not so loud that you can't hear whomever you're conversing with. I have a tendency to not follow instructions, or rather, tap into my creative uniqueness, lol. However, the instructors are very encouraging either way and support your mistakes and intentional deviations alike. The food and drinks are mediocre at best, but I appreciate that they offer snacks and 21+ sips at all. So, maybe don't arrive hungry but it's not the end of the world if you do. read more

What an amazing time at Muse Paintbar! Had a wonderful experience on Valentines Day Weekend painting with guided instructions. We were surprisingly able to create a masterpiece that my partner and I are super excited to display in our home. Muse has a variety of classes with different art designs to appease all style preferences! They also have a full bar with a mixture of alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings! I ordered a yuzu pineapple limeade mocktail to sip on with my painting which was delicious! We didn't indulge in food this time but they had multiple food options from pretzel bites to boneless wings. I came here for a public paint class and I had an amazing time. Sydney the instructor was helpful in instructing the class on the featured painting. The class ended up being about 2 hours long. For $35 you get all the paint needed, a canvas , and help on making the artwork. I booked a private event here for my team. Here's what I loved: -The booking experience was easy. I set everything up independently online -The communication from the team was very clear. They proactively provided reminders, billing receipts and any updates or changes. -The venue was really clean -our instructor was a fantastic communicator and went at a pace that was easy to follow along with regardless of skill level. Here's what could've been better -I ordered the Polaroid add on package and some of the film didn't work so essentially I didn't get everything that I paid for. The staff did try the best to help but ultimately the camera wasn't functioning properly. -The space to paint in our private room was tight. They had laid our easels out at a slight angle which made it a little tricky to get some of the brush stokes on there. We did have a larger group so maybe smaller groups won't have this happen to them. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and would come here again. read more

I've heard of Muse Paintbar for a while but it was my first time actually going in person! Reserved tickets online with no issues. Upon arrival, you sit at your respective tables and they have the equipment already set up for you. My instructor was pretty good - her instructions were very clear despite a little fast, but she gave you ample time to catch up/let your paint dry. You are also encouraged to paint with whichever colors or however you'd like. I think it would be helpful if the instructor's canvas was bigger or if there was a way we could easily see her canvas (eg live broadcast/video). Despite how spacious the venue is, the mulitple canvas and easels sometimes blocked my view of the instructor and her painting. Throughout the session, she came by at least two times and there was another assistant available for any questions. I like how there were multiple blow dryers scattered across the room, so I never had to wait for one. Also appreciate the fact that they had spot removal available in case paint gets onto your clothes (obvi would recommend something you're ok if paint does get on). They have aprons available which are sprayed with a sanitizer after each session. Acrylic paint is used here and there is a station with additional colors or more paint if you run out. I very much enjoyed my time here! It's a great place for a date with a partner or friends. Their drinks unfortunately were mediocre but the opportunity to purchase/enjoy these drinks while painting with other is pretty cool. I was first introduced to Muse paintbar through a Yelp Elite event. I have since been back with coworkers and thought it would be fun to bring my boyfriend and his kids for an afternoon outing. If you have never been to Muse paintbar, here is a little tutorial of how it works. You sign up online and then you show up about a half an hour before your session begins. All of the instructions will be sent to you by email. Once you arrive, you will find your name clipped to one of the many canvases , if you are with a group, the names of your leader will be clipped to each of the canvass at your assigned station / table. You may observe that behind the canvases there are little paper plates, paper towels, and you should have a metal container with water and your paint brushes will be there waiting for you. You will want to go and grab a smock and while you are doing that you can check out what they have on tap for beverages. They offer some food items as well, the menu is usually right on your canvas when you arrive. Your instructor will introduce him or herself and explain a little bit about the process. They try to make it as simple and efficient as possible because you are working under limited period of time. If you deviate from the instructional to try and do your own thing then you may get behind and not be able to finish, if you try to do your own thing you will pretty much be on your own. I think the key to enjoying this experience is to not take yourself too seriously, it is a fun outing that can be enjoyed by all age groups. My co-workers really enjoyed a team building activity here, we had a lot of laughs and you have something to take home with you. My boyfriend and his two kids really had fun with this, I'm sure we will be going back again for another session soon. read more

I decided to stop by Muse on a whim on Monday night and I had a lot of fun! It was $29 for the evening, which included a 2 hour painting class with Matt Cullen, a drink of choice including either house wine or beer, a classic canvas, and all supplies needed to complete the painting. Sheri checked me in at the bar and was very bubbly and friendly. Matt was a great instructor. He took us through the painting step by step with a very positive attitude and some seriously amazing but absolutely groan worthy jokes and puns. He acted as our Bob Ross for the night, reassuring us that there are no mistakes, just unique parts of our painting, and that perfection is impossible. "Even if you messed up the entire background, don't worry! Put a tree on top of that! So many trees!" I truly did leave with the single worst painting of the night, seriously it was laughably bad, but I had fun and enjoyed the experience so I didn't even care about the end result. The studio space is really cute and open, with lots of light, brick walls, and of course paintings everywhere. They have a large front room where classes take place, but there is also a private back room for large parties. I was happy to hear all of the instructors are practicing artists here in Richmond. The walls leading to the restrooms are decorated with original artwork and prints by the instructors which are available to purchase. I bought a print of Frida Khalo by Sheri Lake which I absolutely adore, and it looks perfect in my living room. read more

She responded well and was patient with people who had questions and needed repeats though, which was super nice. I think she shouldn't have told us to mix all our colors in advanced though because they dried out on the plate before I used them, so I had to remix them when I needed them. They also offer food and drinks (beer, wine, soda but they also have free cups of water). I believe their site said something like 20 beers - they only had around 10... I was fine with them but itmxould have had better local beers. I don't recall if the prices were reasonable or not. The food is not anything special - we ordered the sampler of beef dogs (mini pigs in a blanket), mozzarella sticks, spinach and feta triangles and some sauces (ketchup, marinara, and some sort of mustard I think). It was not spectacular food but good to have for *some* food options. Prices for food are also a bit pricey - $25 for the sampler! I would recommend improving beer selections with local options and consider food prices...or for people coming, get something to eat beforehand especially since by the time we left all restaurants nearby were closed (on a Friday). read more

This was my second time visiting Muse Paintbar at Willow Lawn. I've done several fun paintings through other places as well. What I liked about this one is that they have everything you need at the location. Since it's an actual place you go to paint, they have sinks, plenty of paint, no distractions, etc. And even though there is a general time frame for the class, I never felt rushed. The instructor was friendly and took her time going through the different parts of the painting. This place also has their own kitchen! They have a menu of what they served along with regular drinks and beer and wine. Overall, I'm a fan of this place. It can be a little more limited in what kind of painting you want to do because other companies may offer more venues, and therefore more options. My friends and I have been wanting to do paint your pet night for a while and finally found a place that wasn't sold out! Price was okay, no food or drinks included. The bring your own snacks/wine thing seems a little fuzzy though. I confirmed that I could bring my own snacks beforehand (two small dips and crackers/carrots) yet got told that it was too much food upon arrival...however another group brought their own bottles of wine? Confusing. The sketch beforehand was helpful, however the overall pace was kind of slow. There were a handful of people who completely disregarded the teaching method and just started painting but there were also plenty of people still painting when the class was supposed to end. The artists throughout the room were very helpful, way more than the one on the stage. I think if she just focused a little more on what would be helpful for the group and less on trying to seem "hip" and messing with the music, it would be better. All in all a great time. A bigger place than other paint studios, but the wine and food selection is nice. The studio might want to clarify the bring your own rule for the future. I was so nervous to do a wine and paint session as I am the WORST at painting. My roommate assured me that it would be fine, but I was still full of apprehension. I had no idea what to expect. It's a beautiful location and I loved the lighted MUSE sign. It was so awesome to have everything provided all ready for us to paint. The instructor was extremely encouraging throughout the whole process, telling us to relax and sip wine. This is definitely not a competition. Your painting will not look like the original or your neighbors and that is something to be proud of. The instructor would come around and offer encouragements, even help you touch up what you don't like about your painting.
