Build your own mac with mushrooms, broccoli, and chicken
Stephen L.

As a mac and cheese lover, I came with high expectations. I did the build-your-own-mac with mushrooms, broccoli, and chicken ($20 for a large). At first, the guy came out with my order but it was missing the chicken, so then he had to go back and add it. I thought that would be a quick process but ended up taking a while, so by the time I finally got my proper mac and cheese, I already had a not-so-good first impression. However, upon eating the mac and cheese, I realized it was actually quite good. Nothing that special, but decent. The mushrooms, broccoli, and chicken were all okay quality but could have been more plentiful. After a while, the mac and cheese started to taste a bit more bland though. I think they probably could've tried to add more seasoning or flavor or something in there. The large size was quite a lot for me to finish, since I underestimated how filling it would be. The place itself is set up in 2 parts: one side is for ordering the mac and cheese (they have sandwiches and other things as well), and the other side is like a market where you can buy different cheeses and stuff. So it's definitely a casual but unique environment. The staff are okay friendliness, although the lady taking my order seemed more interested in something on her computer screen than actually listening to my order. There are a few seats by the window available to sit and eat. Also, one other minor point to note is that they had a sign saying there would be a live mozzarella pulling demonstration Fri-Sun at 1pm, so we waited there for it, but it never happened... disappointing. Overall, the mac and cheese here is decent but honestly not much better than typical mac and cheese at other places.

This place is a gem. So glad that it existed! I love cheese. Cheese are the best. And there's a small walk-in place for a quick bite of mac and cheese without dining at an hour long restaurant??? Unreal. I had the classic Mac snack size for $6. I was in a rush and the cashier said it'll be ready in 7 minutes. I was checking the time nonstop. It was really ready in 7 minutes. Woohoo! Sat down and devour it within 5 minutes and left. So great! I love everything about the Mac except for the breadcrumbs because I keep inhaling it down my throat and it made me cough like crazy. Can't wait to go back and try the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese. Drooling already!

Maybe it was just the day that we went, but I didn't think the mac and cheese was anything great. I got the classic Mac and my friend got the French onion Mac, and they were just okay. We also got the cheese curds which were more like mini mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce on the side. I would get the cheese curds again. I liked that it was a casual location when in the hustle and bustle of everything. There was no one else in the shop besides being there at prime time on Friday. We wait about 10 minutes after ordering for our food to come out. The staff was very friendly. The location is perfect and the cheese shop it is associated with is also perfect. If you are around, I'd definitely pop your head into the cheese shop next door.

Good Mac & Cheese in a clean no-frills setting. We enjoyed our quick lunch ordering two different Mac & Cheese varieties. Both bowls were tasty. The room has a few tables and a counter with seats along the Bleeker Street windows. The counter person was pleasant.

Easily one of the best mac and cheese I've ever had, and I have had A LOT. I wanted to try this place for a while and I was so happy I had the chance to finally try it. We went and it happened to be 15 minutes before they close, I can't remember the exact time but it seems kind of early. The guy working there though was extremely nice and still let us get mac and let us eat it there while he was closing up. He was super friendly. We got the snack size of classic, buffalo chicken, and bbq chicken. The snack size was actually pretty large. My favorite was the classic, is was perfectly creamy and cheesy and had a delicious bread crumb topping!

The pasta is cooked perfectly. It has a nice bite to it and it comes out hot. They don't use a microwave which is great. They have about six/eight options to choose from but I went for the classic. It was really good. At first I felt like it was too salty but that went away. I asked for hot sauce and it wasn't spicy at all just tangy and salty. I got three smallest size and had leftovers. It tasted better the next day which is always a treat. I would come again but keep sticking to classic because of how rich gge dish is. Th hey should also get better hot sauce and work on the presentation of their counter. I saw some rags and cleaning towels under a tray of mac and cheese. Friendly customer service and a chill vibe is here. Mera's Tip: Skip the Kraft and come here

French Onion - Snack Mac

I'm a huge mac and cheese fan and a huge cheese fan in general, so I stopped by while checking out Murray's cheese shop. I was blown away by the french onion mac here and still crave it often. It's kinda pricey for the portions but you can tell their cheese is really high quality and all the flavors together just take you to heaven. I don't even like the shape of pasta they use normally, but it didn't even matter bc it was so good. Can't wait to come back and try other mac n cheese flavors!

Murray's Melt
Tanzie R.

I spent a whole day trying out all the grilled cheeses in the area and this place by far has the best grilled cheese I've ever had (not including the Melt Shop of course). Murray's melt is buttery, crispy, and most importantly cheesy! It definitely delivers on the cheese pull everyone's after. I highly recommend getting their tomato soup to pair with it! The cheese itself was a mix of yellow and white cheddar. It's not the sharpest or saltiest cheese. More mild, perfect for kids. It needs something extra to it like adding a tomato or a tomato soup dipping situation for an adult's taste buds. The shop itself is super cute with a whole white and yellow cheese theme. Very cute for social media. They have benches outside and some tables inside. The melt only set me back $7.50 I think. Eat it as soon as possible so it doesn't lose its crisp!

Got the Truffle Mac that was refrigerated and ready to bake at home since that wasn't an option already baked and it was amazing! Can't wait to try the others! I will definitely be back.

Classic Mac w/Burrate and French Onion Mac

I find it that I relate to Guy Fieri when it comes to Mac and cheese since I'm always on the search to find the perfect Mac and cheese even when they all begin tasting the same. I was super excited to try Murray's pop up since I've heard wonderful praise for their cheese itself. When I first took a bite of the classic Mac and cheese with the burrata on top, OMG my heart stopped figuratively speaking of course...for now. It was delicious and heavenly, everything I could wish for! The burrata took it to a whole new level where it brought out a creamy and sweet addition to the savory cheesy pasta. The French onion Mac and cheese was too rich to my liking and was very salty unfortunately. The price was definitely not a pocket change kind of deal but you do pay for the name and experience to try it!

I ordered the Hungry Mac size. Probably about 2 cups and a little more of Mac& Cheese. This is $16 - but to be substantial because this is my dinner anyway, I added bacon, broccoli, extra cheese, and pickled paradew peppers at $3 more each. This ran me $28. It was very good but I thought a little expensive. This place is like eating at the new trend thing nowadays "rice bowl with items on top". Except this is Mac & cheese with items you want added. I paid for 2 others with me and our beverages.i was surprised with my bill. It is good and good cheese but even at $2 added for items for the smaller bowls for others I got, I was very surprised. The $2 pease in a little container because the person I took with me wanted the lease separately showed me how he gulped it in his little kid mouth I one toss. That was $2. And that was pease. But it was good. Cheese is expensive indeed. But maybe the pease and other additions could be a little less. Because my hungry bowl size was $28 for 1 person. And that is not the biggest bowl. It is the second to the largest.

If you like cheese, you can't go wrong at Murray's!! Only outdoor seating when I went in mid October. We got the classic medium size and was able to share between 2 people. Will definitely have to be back to try the other flavors!

BBQ Mac n Cheese & Lobster Mac n Cheese
Mama B.

Spent a 1-day trip in NYC with my best friend & our 2 kids (pre-teen & teen). My best friend's kid really wanted to go back here since they had visited with ther dad. When I browsed their menu online, I was in shock at the prices. However, once in the store (right next door to cheese shop) I just gave in and told myself to order & enjoy. I ordered the lobster mac & cheese, and my kid ordered their bbq mac & cheese. OMG!!! You could tell how fresh and homemade their pasta was. Very filling and perfectly cooked. Spoke to their employee Davon & was informed that they do make their pasta fresh daily. Again, it was very noticeable. And the lobster that was in it was perfectly portioned and was fresh as well. Would def recommend making a stop in here when in town. Also, fyi, a quick 25 min walk away from the 9/11 memorial.

How long will the popup mac and cheese shop be open? My partner and I are major cheese lovers and have a trip to NYC planned for October, and we'd hate to miss the burrata mac and cheese.

Hey Kara! Thank you for reaching out. We're optimistic it will be open for quite a while longer, but due to the nature of the pop-up, we can't guarantee it! Best to check in before your trip, but if the worst were to happen, we serve our Mac and…

Is the popup still open? We tried to go by around 8pm tonight and they were closed with a "space for rent" sign in the window. Hoping they just closed early today because of Pride and that we can try again later in the week

Hi Savannah, Thanks for reaching out! It is absolutely still open, and you're correct, we did…

Getting a reservation to this place is next to impossible and only possible if you are one of the first people in line to put your name down and hope a bar seat opens up. The restaurant opens at 5 so I literally lined up at 3 and there were already 3 people ahead of me. But my friend and I were 4th and 5th. We made some friends in line though! So at like 4:30 the hostess came out, took my number and name and said "we'll text if we have a spot." and then...we all just kinda left??? But not even 15 min later I got a text that they would take us and we had to confirm. There are 13 seats at the bar and that's where we were sat. We got some cocktails and apps and then also some dinner. I ordered the sour cream and onion martini which came with a side bar and little ramekin of sour cream onion chips. I ordered the vegetarian chicken parm and we got some asparagus and hand cut fries to share. My friend got the French dip and said it was one of the best sandwiches she's had! I liked my dish but was it worth $30? No. The martinis were $21 which I do think is worth it since they come a side car/refill so it's like 2 drinks. You're definitely paying for the social media hype and the inside is very beautiful and feels like Old New York! Our bartender was fantastic and friendly and gave us some great recommendations. The sour cream and onion martini was good but I liked the tomato martini a lot more! So yea the food and drink and ambiance are great but is it worth trying to get in waiting 1-2 hours? I don't know. But hey! I can say I've tried it now!

After greeting you as you walk up, the first question the door guy asks is if you have a reservation. After being let in (once you said yes), there is a another line at the host stand to verify the reservations, then to be seated. This area is a narrow space between the bar and the staff behind the podium so there will still be a smaller wait outside for those waiting to get in due to tight space. Once seated, the bartender Meaghan came over immediately to greet us, offering sparkling, still or tap water. Alongside your glass, there was a selection of citrus (lemon/lime/orange) or cucumber to add which was a nice touch. Although I already had an idea of what I wanted, I went a completely different direction once she mentioned the off-menu selections. This ended up being the heirloom tomato salad (I know, when the heck have I ever ordered anything like this) which was $20, and a side of their hand-cut fries, $13.95. You are to order everything at once, and they course it out accordingly. The people next to me ordered a lot of food; most of it the popular items which I veered away from with the exception of the fries. The party on the other side went with two items I was considering prior so it was nice to see what these looked like up close. The tomato salad was very good! I normally scrape off onions but I actually ate all of them and the taste didn't 'stay with you' which I was grateful for, while the basil flavor was a nice contrast. These were the larger beefsteak style tomatoes so I was fork and knifing this dish. I will admit this, along with the fries, were a little more salty than what I am used to but it was delicious overall. I almost considered a sauce with the fries but they honestly did not need it; the flavor was more than enough on their own. Wasn't planning on it, but I ended up adding the apple hand pies ($19) which were pretty good. They didn't have anything really chocolate-based, so this was the next best thing. Since they come in an order of two, I ended up taking the other hand pie to go. Restrooms are right past the bar, down a flight of steps and there are two single-sex doors. If you are seated at the bar, you pretty much have no reason to go past that into the dining room so it felt like a subtle off-limit area (and staff was there to direct you where to go). Truth is, I really didn't want to like this place. I didn't want to have to deal with scoring a reservation in the future however the food I had was decent (and there are still some items I want to try), service from the doorman, Meaghan, the food runners, and hostesses was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. You may also end up talking to fellow diners comparing dishes, and it made for an enjoyable experience all around. I'd say it was worth it.

The other dishes--North African eggs, steak, and Brussels sprouts--were just okay. The biggest surprise was the dessert--Lemon Frozen Yogurt! It was so delicious I wanted another serving!! The acidity was just right, refreshing without being too sweet. A bite after the meal was incredibly soothing. Not every plate was a hit, but the standouts were SO good that we'd absolutely return. We made a 6:30 PM Saturday reservation to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. I'll admit, the location initially threw me off. It has a somewhat corporate feel, tucked between buildings near the Lincoln Tunnel Expressway on Manhattan's West Side. But once you're there, the buzzing patio and lively atmosphere win you over. Great for date night, dinner with friends, business meals, large groups, or a pre-event meal. A wide age range and a crowd that feels like it's hitting on all cylinders. Bonus points for a thoughtful anniversary card waiting for us when we sat down. Such a sweet touch! We skipped cocktails after a full afternoon of drinking, but more than made up for it with the food. The menu is designed for sharing. What we ordered: * Fattoush salad | 3/5: A creative spin on the classic, topped with pita, thinly sliced Honeycrisp apples, and candied pecans. The apples and especially the pecans overwhelmed the dish for me. I'd love to see more vegetables and fewer sweet toppings. Prefer a traditional fattoush, but this was fine. Need 1/4 the amount of pecans given * Tuna tartare | 1/5: Unfortunately, the one miss of the evening. The description with cucumber, figs, and cardamom sounded incredible, but the dish fell completely flat. The cucumber purée had an almost gel-like texture, and the tuna didn't taste fresh to us. We sent it back. More acidity, spice, and sumac could help, but the freshness and texture were the bigger issues. * Octopus carpaccio | 5/5: STUNNING. I usually gravitate toward a cooked octopus tentacle, but this preparation with fennel absolutely won me over. One of my favorite dishes of the night. * Pita: Thick, soft, and delicious. We went through two baskets! An excellent vehicle for the dips and appetizers, but honestly good enough to enjoy on its own. * Little gems | 3/5: Served with za'atar crumbs and roasted grapes. The grapes initially threw me off, but the combination worked surprisingly well. A creative salad I really enjoyed, but $19 for some leaves, breadcrumb & grapes is pushing it * Manti | 5/5: Little wonton-like dumplings stuffed with spiced beef, served over garlicky labneh with oven-dried tomatoes. Absolutely delicious. A must-order for us. * Crispy latkes | 5/5: Everyone should order these. Perfectly crispy with a lovely thyme finish. An excellent side that deserves its own spotlight. * Charred broccoli: A very generous portion served with cashew harissa that packed some heat. So tasty that I accidentally ate the entire side myself... oops. Bottom line: Zou Zou's is worth a visit for the atmosphere alone, and do need to return to have actual entrees. The tuna tartare was a miss, and the fattoush wasn't my favorite, but the octopus carpaccio, manti, latkes, and broccoli more than made up for it. Add in thoughtful service touches and a lively, versatile setting, and we left happy.
