Please, don't take your dog here. The profane groomer (possibly owner? I am unsure here) shows no animal skills or people skills. Should you call a client and answer her hello with "He needs medication!" and not even identify yourself? Should you follow that up with "He looks like hell!"? Should you keep approaching a dog who is obviously terrified of you when there are two people he is familiar with? Should you show lack any regret that things didn't work out better? Should you express shock that the dog has never had problems with other groomers and then insist he come back when clearly he is terrified and his owner is in tears? The groomer kept getting into his space unnecessarily like she wanted to make him perform. She only reluctantly handed the leash to me when I stepped between her and the dog, outstretched my arm, and told her I would take it. I felt like she was battling for control over all three of us. He was fine the moment he was carried outside. He let his owner put the collar back on him in the car without issue. He did not leave his owner's side for the entire night and was much more cuddly than usual. I now want to take nearly every one star review I've ever written and upgrade them to 2-3. This was a new low. I wish I could get footage of what happened to the poor pup, who never has problems with other groomers. I wish he could speak what happened, and I'm glad he found a way to communicate it. read more

This woman had me in tears from our phone conversation alone after she attempted to groom my 10-year old Shih Tzu. Before identifying herself, the first thing she says is "he needs to be medicated." I was quite taken aback because I wasn't sure who she was or who she was talking about. She claimed my dog bit her and she can't continue grooming him, that he "looked like hell." She'd be willing to try again if he was medicated. She was so incredibly rude. No people skills. No animal skills. So let's go back. When I first arrived, the receptionist was very friendly. The groomer came out and I explained my dog doesn't like people getting too close to his face and that he can be a "biter" but the previous groomers didn't have any problems. He only gets aggressive with kids or when he's trying to be protective of me. Both of which are very rare. After the conversation, I felt comfortable leaving my dog. When I came back, after the awful phone conversation, she was finishing up another dog and made me wait while my pitiful dog was barking in one of the cages. I've never seen him behave like the way he did around her. I can only guess that she was too rough with him or something. She did not have the soothing and comforting tone all other groomers have. I asked if she wanted me to come get him out of the cage, but continued to try to handle him by herself. Then she couldn't find the leash and collar. When she did, she attempted to put the collar on him, when it was obvious he did not want her near him. She was very hostile and expressed no remorse. He looked terrible. I will include pictures. She said she'd take $20 cash and we tried to get out as quickly as possible. He was fine as soon as we got out of the shop. We will not be back. They didn't ask if he was up to date on his shots, which at the time didn't bother me. But now it's quite irresposible of them! He is up to date, BTW. read more

I love this place and the owner! I have a senior rescue who has issues and has bitten me when I try to do any kind of grooming or wiping or touching him without his permission. We muzzle him and I hold him and now after several visits he tolerates the grinder. The place is clean and airy and light and the dogs are visible not like some other places. Last week our boys escaped & I made a post on the Nextdoor app. We got them back. Betty reached out to me & said they would like to give the boys a free bath & nail trim to welcome them home. How nice! I called in & Betty got them in the very next day! I was nervous about leaving them, but shy made me feel very comfortable. She gave me a call to let me know she needed a little more time. When I went to pick them up they were so happy & they looked amazing! Missy took a second to talk to me & told me some precautions I should take, just in case the boys escape again. This is the only place I bring my senior shih tzu for grooming in St Louis. My dog is slightly blind/deaf, so he stresses out a lot when he's not in a familiar place. I've been to a few other places but Sharon is the only one I feel safe leaving my dog with. This place is never too crowded. They don't try to overwhelm themselves. Sharon is super attentive to your dogs need. When I'm scheduling with her, she'll say things like "this time will be better so I can get your dog out as soon as possible" or "times time won't work because I need extra time with this other dog that is scheduled." I like that they don't use computerized systems that standardized the needs of each dog. The overall cut/style is not the best I've seen, but my dog always looks clean. I know my dog is fidgety and is difficult to work with, so I don't usually care how well he looks. Sometimes my dog will be extra difficult and Sharon will tell me that she won't cut too close to his eyes out of safety (she also offers to re-trim the face area for free if I bring him back in that situation) I'll keep coming back =] read more

We love taking our bulldog Portia here. She's very anxious around other dogs, and Missy makes sure she's comfortable. I love that there is never more than a couple of dogs at the place at one time, and that Portia can sit by the window while she waits for me to come pick her up. Missy is also very conscious of a specific dogs needs. Last time we were in, she used a new cocoa butter shampoo to sooth Portia's sensitive bully skin. my pup got his first haircut ever here. there was a mix up with my mom who dropped him off so he ended up staying there a while which I appreciated but I'll tell you I've never seen a cut so bad I almost cried. the gunk in his eyes wasn't even like cleans or cut and the cut was uneven on his head and just really truly awful. I think. actually I know I could've done a better job myself. I was so confused bc of all the good reviews. I took my very anxious and large dog to Murphy's for a much needed bath and nail trim. They were able to get me in the same day, and offered the last appointment to help with my pup's anxiety. The shop owner was so patient with him (and me!), which has not been my experience with other groomers. Not the Greatest experience!!!! Great customer service when we first got there. Not happy with the service out pup got. He was in for a simple nail trim. I'm not sure if it is normal to have the owners there while they cut /trim their nails, this was the first time I have ever been allowed to the back while out pup has been at a groomers before. While she was in the processing of trimming his nails she clipped way to far down and hurt our god. He Jumped back and gave a yelp in pain. She cut way to far down and caused him to BLEED!!!!!!! and not just a little paper cut bleed but huge chunks of blood..... I was extremely upset when this happened. I'm not sure if she was just rushed to get us out as it was about closing time. She seemed a little distracted while she was cutting his nails, she even took personal phone calls while she was working, which was EXTREMLY rude to me!!!!!! ask them to call back when you have a CUSTOMER in your SHOP!!! My dog Libby *hates* getting her nails cut or getting a trim. Missy at Murphy's makes this far less traumatic than it usually is due to her calm demeanor, professionalism, and flat-out kindness. She's fast and efficient and very very good. She makes the whole process bearable and for that I am grateful. Oh, sure, business people might make a big deal out of pampering and soothing your animal when you are present, but the ladies here have gone out of their way to see to dogs and cats left in their care--even in the absence of owners. And my dog, Ruby, usually a little shy with strangers, knows that this is a place that welcomes and treasures her. She goes right to the door and up the steps immediately when we arrive at the building. She loves these ladies who behave so lovingly toward her. Murphy's is the best! I took my pups there soon after they opened. The groomer that helped me really seemed to take my lil guys needs seriously and she had a few rescues of her own marching around and inspecting my pack. I left my babies with them and went to La Vallesana for some grub and an horchata. When I came back to pick them up, they were squeaky clean, smelling great, and had the cutest summer cuts. Not just a clean buzz cut like some places do. The cuts were so cute I almost asked them to do me next! They also put a pic of my pups on their facebook page lookin clean and cute so I could brag on them to my FB friends. How cool is that? I will definitely be going back. Tried this place out after a not so good experience at one of their competitors. I have to say that the person I dealt with "Susan" is as good as it gets. She is very understanding and helpful. My furbabies seemed to be very happy upon me picking them up not to mention they smelled great and looked great also. Kind of missed the after grooming scarf but its okay. My Shih tzu's jaw had been broken on both sides by a groomer in Crestwood three years ago. Every groomer I took her too could never finish the cut. Twice it took the groomer 3 hours for an unfinished cut at a cost of $60. She was so scared she pooped each time. They would stop to let her settle down and try to start over. We found Murphy's Mutts Cuts and will go to no one else. My dog Abbie was scared when we entered, The groomer took her and held her and talked to her. After a while she said, "I think we are ready now." Abbie never shook once. The cut was finished in 30 minutes with no mishaps. They are the only groomer I would take any dog to. Despite all of the positive reviews, I actually had an extremely horrible experience here. I dropped my dog off, and then ran a few errands. Not quite an hour later, I received a phone call telling me I needed to come back quickly. I walk in only to see my dog crying in a corner and blood all over the place. His nail was trimmed too short (which is a common occurrence). The lady said she let my dog air dry, but couldn't get him to come back to the table. I'm not sure why she let my dog air dry while he was bleeding all over the place, and not sure why I needed to drive back to pick my dog up and put him on the table. After I did so, I was planning on waiting inside until she was finished; however, she told me I needed to leave because I was distracting my dog (I was sitting on the bench by the front door). So, I had to drive back abruptly to pick up dog up, put him on the table, and then leave for her to finish. I've been to multiple dog groomers, and have NEVER had to do this. Ignoring the fact that my dog was traumatized, and I had to come back only to leave... she didn't even do what I wanted her to do. I asked for a kennel cut (to which she didn't seem to understand) only to receive a dog that didn't seem trimmed at all. She told me she was going to shave his mustache and eyebrows, but she "thought they looked too cute" - despite me specifically asking for these to be trimmed. read more

I had a coupon so I gave them a shot. I gave instructions on the cut and the difficulty of handling my dog. When I picked him up, I was in shock. My dog is ugly and the longest fur is on his feet. He has nicks and an uneven cut, in some places, practically bald. All I can say is that the first time someone grooms your dog should be their best effort, not a promise for the next visit. Not sure what happened to my previous VERY NEGATIVE review of Murphy's Mutts & Cuts dog groomer, but it mysteriously disappeared. Maybe they changed their listing to get rid of all the bad reviews? I took my golden retriever and Goldendoodle to them 3 times. The owner seemed pretty normal, and I felt o.k. with having her do the grooming on the first visit. The next time I brought them to this groomer, the owner let some other groomer do the grooming, without telling me. That groomer has a very strange personality and doesn't do a good job at all. The last time I brought my dogs there, when I picked them up, she had shaved my beautiful Goldendoodle without telling me. She said he had too many matted areas. I understand how goldendoodles can get matted, and I brush him out frequently. I also understand if a groomer has to charge extra for the extra work required. (I was not looking for a cheap dog groomer -- I only took my dogs to this groomer because a friend recommended them.) My dog looked ridiculous for 4 months until his hair grew back. No phone call from the groomer, no warning, just shaved my dog down to his bare skin. Her explanation was that it would have taken another couple of hours to remove the matted areas. If she had just called me, I would have gladly paid extra for her to remove the matted areas and properly groom him. These people clearly don't understand how to groom a dog or deal with the dog owners. Anybody can shave a dog down to his bare skin -- that's not dog grooming! I have never had a dog groomed. I have always taken care of them myself. But this dog (Akita/Pit mix) is beyond my capabilities. Last year I buckled down and brushed him as thoroughly as I could nearly everyday and still, the undercoat persisted and his skin was nasty as a result. I finally gave in and took him to Missy. She was friendly and interested and knowledgeable. I left him there and walked the neighborhood with my other dog and when I came back I could hear him whining, but I could tell he was just being a big baby about the blow dryer. It was good to hear, because if he didn't like her, the sound would have been fierce instead. I wasn't there to see how she handled him, but I know she handled him well, because this 80-pound, heavily massed brute can't be bullied into anything. I didn't think she could have done it, but the undercoat was gone! I am sold! I will take him back regularly and maybe even my non-problematic dog, just for the luxury of it. read more
