Only several months after they installed the bathtub, the caulking they used around the tub cracked and disintegrated. And, I learned today from a plumber that the bathtub itself was not put in properly-- they did not use a mortar bed! This is one of many examples of the corner cutting and sloppy work from Marin VIP Builders. I waited too long to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB. My advice: look elsewhere for your contractor.

We hired Isaac and team to replace our kitchen counter tops, install tile back splash, and install…read morenew kitchen sink/faucet. We have a smaller kitchen (about 25 sq ft of counter top space). Photos show before on the left (or top), and after on the right (or bottom). The work was completed March 2024. Isaac was honest, straight forward, patient, and quick to respond to questions or concerns. His recommendations (e.g., 3cm thick quartz counter top), though expensive, were high-quality and ultimately a decision we do not regret. The sub-contractors were respectful and took their time, and did excellent work. Some additional details: For insurance purposes, we wanted the invoice of the kitchen counter tops. After several requests, Isaac was able to get this to us. We suspect the delay on this was due to the subcontractor: The invoice was issued by the vendor (Architectural Surfaces), addressed to the counter-top subcontractor, and had to be obtained from the subcontractor. Isaac was very professional, patiently replying to our several requests, and ultimately delivered the invoice. The project start date was delayed about 2-3 days due to cutting/delivery of the counter tops, but Isaac was quick to let us know this and quick to reschedule the start date. The counter tops and sink were installed in about 1-2 days, and the tile back splash and detail work took about 2 more days. I believe the work started on a Thursday and was completed by Sunday. Delays like these may not work for some people, but they were not a problem for us; it was very convenient that Isaac's team could come in on the weekend to complete the work. We did not get other bids on this kitchen-counter remodel, but we did have Isaac submit a bid for a master-bath remodel. Comparing his bid to two others, we can say his pricing is competitive.

Dann Wynn has done some excellent work for us, including repair of two windows in our sunroom that…read morewere rotting at the bottom. We didn't want to replace them with generic windows from a manufacturer so he took out the rotten sashes and repaired them at his workshop, replacing the rotten wood with clean new wood. He even repainted them in a color so close to the original, it's pretty much indistinguishable to my very picky eye. His work was careful and innovative -- it was a really difficult repair -- and he left the place completely tidy. Dann also rebuilt our back outdoor stairs and did a tidy, solid job of it. His rates are reasonable and he's quick, a great communicator and easy to be around. We recommended Dan to a friend who needed some fairly extensive work done in her kitchen and she said his work was excellent and he was a joy to have around (she works at home).

Attar immediate stood out as both responsive and knowledgeable regarding our various needs. We recently completed a repair in our home and I am happy to say that our experience was very positive. From the initial quote, scheduling the work, and follow up Attar has been attentive through the whole process. The work was completed to budget and on time. Additionally, we had some questions a few days after our work was completed and Attar responded immediately. This is especially telling about their company ethics. Many services will have delayed response times or require chasing after payment has been made against a project. He was very slow and ran us way over budget (he essentially billed us 89.00 per hour to put in tile, and he seriously billed us for 48 hours of tile work to put in 45 pieces of 12x24 tile). When we would ask for estimates to finish, he gave an estimate, and then took twice as long as his estimate. When we confronted him, he literally said, it's time and materials, it is what it is. We finally had him stop work when he was close to 50% over our original estimate (and he STILL wasn't finished). The final quality of work was so bad, we had to hire a new contractor and have all the tile torn out and start over. Be careful!

I would highly recommend Ron. Our project was quite ambitious: complete redo of our guest bathroom…read more(new vanity, shower, tile on wall and floors), redo of 2-person master shower, and new kitchen island with installation of induction cooktop and downdraft hood. Ron is without question the best contractor that I have ever worked with. He is detail oriented, a good communicator, VERY knowledgeable (he's been doing this for decades), and very obviously committed to doing a good job and making sure that people are happy with the result. He's also a genuinely nice person to work with. Being a detail-oriented person myself I had lots of questions for him throughout the process. He always took the time to explain things to me and if needed alter how he was doing things to fit our needs. He even took the tine to answer other questions about the house that weren't related to the job. The quality of the renovation depends in large part on the quality of the subcontractors. Ron works with a set group of contractors / companies (plumbers, tile installers, furniture makers, etc.) which he has developed a close relationship over the years. I have consistently been impressed with the quality of their work and they are all genuinely nice/reliable people. It gets tiring over the weeks having strangers in and out of your house and everyone to a person that he works with has been a nice person, obviously committed to their work but also happy to stop and explain exactly what they're doing and why. I think it's a testament to the relationship that Ron has built with these contractors that many of them have told me privately and unbidden how much they respect Ron and enjoy working for him (or in the case of companies to which we have been referred have smiled when we told them who had sent us and told us that we were in good hands). One final note. It is apparently common practice for tile workers to pour off their tailings into people's back yards, despite the fact that this practice is banned by the EPA and illegal in some cities (it is in West Linn where I checked). Given our extensive gardens I balked at this; Ron was surprised that I had an issue with it, but then worked to come up with a workaround that we could all agree on. I'm just putting this in so that if you care about this (it will definitely affect the plants in your yard and also can contaminate the ground water) you can request that whoever you work with develop a different strategy (we let it settle in barrels, poured off the cleanish water into some gravel, and sent the rest of the goop to be disposed of).
