Fudge that will make you drool I have been told many times that Murdick has the best fudge in the world. I haven't yet eaten every single piece of fudge in the world so I can't be sure it's the absolute best on the entire planet, but I do know that Murdick's fudge is good. Very, very good. The fudge comes in parrelliligrams about four inches by two inches and one each thick. Each one seems to weight about ten pounds and I estimate each square contains appropriately 8*10^6 calories. I shared my square with three other friends so that still gave me 2*10^6 calories from the fudge. Certainly enough to feed entire small countries. Over looking the phenomenal propensity of the fudge for making you fat, it is absolutely fantastic. Delicious. rich and creamy with intoxicating flavor. It is hard to imagine any fudge better. Murdick's has lots of different flavors and the biggest problem is trying to decide which one you want to make your butt bigger. The sin of gluttony is rampant in this place and if this particular location isn't enough Murdick also has stores in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. As much as you try, Murdick will get you. If they don't, Mad Martha's ice cream , right down the street will. This is a very dangerous place to pass through if you are on a diet. As if the fudge wasn't seductive enough, a case of fresh Kettle Korn is sitting right in your field of view as you walk in. The smell is enticing and demands your attention. Oh yeah, if you glance to the left you'll notice all the ice cream flavors. No matter which way you look something is going to look very very tasty. The best fudge in the world? Perhaps a touch of hyperbole, Somewhere on the planet someone might be making better fudge. However Murdick can be no less than a close second place.

    Brownies a la Mode

I walked down the streets in one of the towns of the island of Martha's Vineyard, and decided to get some good dessert. They offer a great variety of fudge, which is their specialty, and a small piece is a great choice if you want an amazing dessert or an afternoon snack with cold milk. I had the Chocolate Peanut Butter and the Penuche. The Penuche is made from brown sugar, butter, and milk. I really liked the creaminess of the Penuche, but I liked the buttery stickiness of the Chocolate Peanut Butter even more. They also have some great ice cream. Most of it is Haagen-Dazs branded ice cream, but it's great ice cream. I had Dulche de Leche, which is an amazingly good caramel flavored ice cream. I also had the Brownies a la mode, which is pretty much brownies mixed with a vanilla ice cream. The softness and the flavor of the brownies went really well with the cold and creamy flavor of the vanilla ice cream. Overall, this is a good place to get something sweet here, particularly some decently good fudge or some great tasting ice cream. The prices for the ice cream are reasonable in this island.

We wanted to recreate an evening from last summer: dinner at The Net Result and ice cream here,…read moreespecially since the owner wrote us a nice comment on Yelp after our last review. Just like last year, this place was empty when we went despite the crowds next door and at Rocco's. We had heard murmurs about waffles being on site, but there was a sign saying something about regulatory issues, so that was a no go. Everything started well enough. Our daughter got a cone with the campfire s'mores again (it is still *really* good). The two of us wanted smalls, but if you want more than one flavor, you need to size up and get a medium. OK, so the guy who was working scooped those flavors out for the two gentlemen in our party. And for $8.50, yeah, you expect those cups to be full. The girl who was working also helped one of us and here's what happened: literally HALF of the cup is full. So, while the two other mediums are scooped past the rim, this one was barely half full. When it was sitting by the register, we had to ask for her to pass it to us, and she goes, "Oh, yeah, sorry, I'm training." Well, that definitely shows! Here's what could have happened with better training: 1) She could have asked her trainer: "Hey, is this right?" 2) She could have said, "Hold on, I'm training, so he'll be right with you." 3) She could have seen with her own two eyeballs that the portion she scooped was half the amount of the other two items of that very same size. 4) The guy training her, who saw that cup, could have said, "Oh, let me get you some more since this isn't right." Such a shame because the ice cream here is delicious (tried the chocolate lovers this time, and it was rich and deeply flavorful), so it's not like we're saying bad things about the product itself. It's not even about getting "more." It's about charging customers almost $10 for what was practically one measly scoop! It's insulting. We gave this place another try, but we will not be back again. After many, many years on this island, we have decided that there really are only two places left to get your best frozen treats: Ben and Bill's in Oak Bluffs and The Ice Cream Candy Bazaar in Edgartown. Yes, parking will be a nightmare, but at least it will be worth it and you'll get good value. We've never had any issues at either of those locations ever, sigh. Ah well.

I had hoped to discern whether she was mad (supervillain), mad (fly), mad (bipolar/borderline), mad (angry), mad (6-7), or otherwise. There was no such information when you walked into the shoppe and the teenager scooping ice cream did not seem to be much of an expert about what sort of mad Martha was. Mystery unsolved. However, since it is Martha's Vineyard and with the 50th anniversary of the Jaws film, I was positively delighted to find that they had a shark attack flavour. I will order anything shark attack themed or adjacent, no questions asked, because the food item is usually blue. Blue food is the best sort of food. Plus the strawberry, raspberry, or cherry used as the attack part of the shark is a bonus fruit experience for the day so who can complain about that. Mad Martha's is a calm, cool place in Oak Bluffs to sit with some ice cream and enjoy before/after the gingerbread houses nearby. There is ample seating in the store along the windows as well as right outside the shoppe on benches. The scoops are generous and pricing is fair for the Vineyard. With that being said, only visit if you can handle the unsolved mystery of exactly what type of mad this Martha character was. I like to think her tortured ghost only watches television during NHL season and now is solely focused on lamenting the Bruins trading away Marchy to the Panthers. But that doesn't affect her ability to serve up scoops of shark attack when the game isn't on.
