I was pleasantly surprised on my visit to Martha's Vineyard that Back Door Donuts had gluten free options. It wasn't something I saw listed online or on their menu, maybe I missed it. But my friends went in to get their own donuts and asked the staff for me while they were there if there are ever GF donuts. They told my friends that there absolutely are so we made it our mission the next day to get some. We showed up as probably one of the first 25 people in line. They keep the gluten free donuts in a separate glass case on the front counter away from the other donuts. It's right on top of the register so if you're in line just keep an eye out. I absolutely loved every donut I had but especially the Boston cream. I'm hoping their Boston location adds GF donuts to their online menu so I can get these delivered to my place in Boston. This is truly one of the best gluten free donuts I've ever had and I'm so thankful! read more

After learning about Backdoor doughnuts via Instagram, We were so excited to be a part of the back door experience on our recent visit to Martha's Vineyard. We got there about 8pm and waited in line for about Wo minutes to order. Then waited about 15 minutes for our order. We didn't mind though as we considered the wait part of the experience. The doughnuts are $3,$4 and I think $8 for an apple fritter. Not cheap, not too Expensive. They crammed 5 doughnuts in a small brown paper bag. And the apple fritter in a bag by itself. Two of the doughnuts had filling and the filling was completely smooshed out by the time we open the bag. They all were a hot mess when we got back to our hotel and the Apple fritter was in 3 pieces. I was not impressed at all. Usually when we have a delicious treat on vacation we tend to go back to the same place day after day. Needless to say we never went back to Backdoor doughnuts. read more

This place has rave reviews ...so even though I'm not a huge donut person...a yelper must do what she is called upon to do. The staff said the apple fritter was the fave...but being the size of a large persons head. There was no way. So I went for the ham and cheese "croissant." Not a croissant, no flaky buttery crust here...but it was a soft buttery bread surrounding which I loved and happily take anyday. I also loved the coconut chocolate donut bc the outside was crispy, the inside was moist. The butter crunch donut was a bit disappointing, it was dry and not too mug flavor. Can't win them all. I'm so sad to write this because I love love love Oak Bluffs and this has been something we have loved for years. A fun experience of waiting out in the dark for fresh donuts, a very unique tradition. But this time we were just so sadly disappointed. The donuts were crazy expensive, tiny (my mother held hers up and we laughed at the ridiculous size of it as she said "is this a lifesaver?") and to be honest the 99 cent donuts at Market basket are far superior in taste. I tried 2 flavors here and both were such a disappointment. My 2 sisters and Mom agreed. Fresh donuts are usually hard to top in life's pleasures but something has gone wrong at Back door donuts.
