I'm so happy my entire family and I got to check out the Munster Mansion in Waxahachie, TX! It was a bit of a drive because we are from Killeen, TX. But let me tell you this... it's definitely worth the drive!!!! If you know me and my husband are OBSESSED with the Munsters. They only show the house by Appointments only! We're so grateful my in-laws took care of that for us. The owner gave us the tour of this beautiful house and I must say that my favorite room in the entire house has got to be the memorabilia room. I'm so jealous of the entire Munster Collection!! It's pretty fascinating that Grandpa (Herman's Father in law) visited this Munster Mansion before he passed, and also one of the actresses that played Marilyn, also visited too! We had such an awesome experience.. we can't wait to go back next time !!! Thank you to the owner for the great service and hospitality. My husband booked a private tour of The Munster Mansion and it was FANTASTIC! Ms. McKee was a fabulous hostess and a wealth of information regarding the Munsters. If you were a big fan of the show, you'll love this place! I didn't realize that they are no longer doing their annual charity event. Only private tours are offered as of now. It was $30 per person and our tour lasted about an hour with free reign to take as many pictures as we'd like. At the conclusion of the tour, you even get to see the Munster car....a real life operating replica. The McKee's love of the Munster's is evident in every inch of the house and the attention to detail and effort expended to recreate such a realistic replica are utterly astonishing. If you're on the fence, go! Well worth it! read more

I had been wanting to visit since moving to TX and finding out this wasn't too far from me. Finally we had some friends visiting us from out of town, which made us a group of 4 (required for private tours), and they loved the idea as well. Perfect! My friend was the one to reach out to schedule (since they were planning their trip) and Sandra was quick to respond and had us booked the following week! The house is hidden from the road but trust the GPS and you'll find the turn. The gates were open for our arrival with room to park both our cars. Walking up you get to take in the full picture of the house and all of the beautiful growth on the gate. It looks like it popped right out of the show! Words can't express how excited I was to knock on those eerie doors! Sandra warmly greeted us and the tour began. The tour consists of the main foyer (famous from the show's intro), living room, dining room, kitchen, and all of the characters' bedrooms upstairs. There are so many wonderful details that add to the ambience, from the organ playing to the smoke rising from Grandpa's laboratory. Most impressive, I think, was just how many things were functional/operational like the spinning suit of armor at the top of the stairs and the secret passageway we got to walk through! Sandra is so kind and hospitable and gives such a great tour mixed with both Munsters facts and personal stories. We were never rushed--we had all the time to spend in each room to take plenty of photos and soak it all in. The house was a total dream for me, I grew up loving the Munsters. But the best thing is, even if you're not the biggest Munsters fan, I guarantee you'll still be impressed and have a great time! My group did! So much love, detail, and dedication went into this unbelievable project. read more

When I was a kid growing up in Dallas, we had a ranch a little south of downtown. On weekends, we would drive to Waxahachie from time to time to catch a movie or whatever else. After my father sold the ranch, Waxahachie became nothing more than a sign that I would pass on my drives to and from Dallas and Austin. That was until a few years ago when my father insisted that we stop to see the 'Munster Mansion', a private residence created and owned by the McKee family, on our trek up to Dallas. You see, my father is all about roadside attractions. He and my mother packed up one of their cars a few years ago and drove to 48 states - they flew to Hawaii and Alaska. On this trip, they traveled on backroads and sought out local flavor everywhere they went. It was an interesting trip that has been well documented online and his desire to stop here was hardly a surprise to me. Of course, I was in! We were almost to Big D when pulled off I-35 in Waxahachie (pronounced walks-a-hatch-eee) and started driving around in search of 1313 Mockingbird Lane. My father had jotted down the address before we hit the road. The GPS wasn't picking it up. The map was no help. Where is this address located? Obviously, we were not Munster's fans because that was the actual address on the show. So, we started asking people. First, it was a woman walking with her child. She was hispanic. Either she didn't understand us or she found our question so outlandish that she didn't know what to say to the car full of people asking for the Munster Mansion. We drove on. Next, it was the friendly couple that acknowledged the existence of the unusual family home, but couldn't tell us how to find it. Finally, it was the uniformed city worker who we approached that was able to give us directions, explaining that it is rather difficult to find. Oh boy, a treasure hunt! After driving for about 10 minutes and getting lost in a neighborhood near the Munster Mansion, we were heading back out to the highway to continue our search. Then all of the sudden, the city worker appeared in his truck! He figured we were lost and had come to guide us in the rest of the way...what a nice guy! He did just that. Standing in from of the Munster Mansion is pretty cool. It looks as it should, only it has kids toys, cars and other things laying around it indicating that somebody does actually live there. I was impressed....for a minute. Then, it was time to go. Just like another review I wrote recently, I felt like I was in National Lampoons Vacation. This time, it was the scene with Chevy Chase and the fam at the Grand Canyon where he looks out briefly at the vast canyon, nods his head and says, "Lets go". Sadly, they do not give tours or do anything special for their guests other than the annual Halloween event they talk about on the website. They actually ask that guests stay off of the property to take photos and what not. Sounds fair to me, but what a shame. I wanted to tour the house, buy a snowcone, get a t-shirt from a clown, ride the train, smash a penny, get a glow-in-the-dark necklace and all the other things that one expects to do when visiting a tourist attraction in the USA. They didn't even have a guest list or a donation box for me to drop my business card in. :) At the end of the day, this is a neat place to see if you like to hunt around to find something with very little reward. I actually give an extra star for that because looking for it is just as much fun as actually finding it. Maybe they will do something more with it one day. You never know. Until then, I have my photos to prove that I visited, which is good enough for me. I certainly rate this higher than our adventure to find the David Koresh compound. Talk about a hunt with very little reward... Happy hunting! read more

Badly organized. Extremely crowded. Expect to wait in every line about 1 1/2-2 hours. Some staff friendly. Some rude. Music so loud you couldn't hear when they called your group. One staff member intentionally gave out false information regarding the food. You aren't allowed to take photos or videos inside the house itself. Nowhere on their website or anywhere else does it say that. They need to make their policy more clear before people go there. The house was cool. But, I wouldn't go again. And if it wasn't for the fact it was for charity I would be even more disappointed than I am. * They have a gift shop. Concession stands. Entertainers. And currently reside in an apartment next to the actual house more than they stay in the actual house according to one of the people working there. I get that they aren't open every day. But, besides opening to the public once a year, you can book a private tour. They surely could do better, IMO. read more

We came to Texas from CA to visit family and had heard about the Munster Mansion so we booked a tour not knowing what to expect. Wow, were we in for a surprise. When we arrived, we were greeted by Sandra (one of the owners) who was so sweet. She opened the front door and we were instantly taken back in time to the 60's. I have very fond memories of watching the Munster's when I was a kid and there I was standing in their living room being greeted by "Spot". There was no detail left unattended to. The cobwebs, the exact pieces from the set, seeing every room in the house from Eddie's to Marilyn's, not to mention hidden passageways...it was so amazing! Sandra was our tour guide and was very detailed as well as throwing in trivia throughout the tour. We were encouraged to ask as many questions as we wanted to and were never rushed. If you are anywhere in the Dallas area, definitely book a tour! It was worth every penny and we had the best time!! read more

I arrived at the bus location at 5pm for pickup at 7pm. I fingered in a large wait time since its a rare occasion they open it to the public. Yes, it's not very organized probably because the owners aren't entertainers or carnies just fans of the show and they hire local people not production professionals. Yes, of course they could improve web information but I did enjoy the experience.The food, not so much. Hothogs, popcorn and cotton candy was my diet for the evening but its simply a kiddy situation/attraction.
