Here's a fun story. I bought all new kitchen appliances - not a small investment. They were…read moredelivered a week later, stove and dishwasher were BOTH dented. Stove dent wouldn't show, so I took it and the company offered $100 off on that. They said they'd replace the dishwasher. A second weeks goes by - we waited around during that four hour window they can't do better than, and they brought a STOVE. So truck left with the stove. We still had the dented dishwasher. Another week, I hear nothing. Then I call. "Oh, it's coming in three days," I am told. No one told me. "And it's between 3 and 7 PM." In the dark. In a house I don't live in yet. I said no, and they said call us again in two days and we'll have a new day and time for you. "Daylight hours," I said. "No problem," I was told. Two days later I call and delivery is between 7 AM and 11 AM. I call delivery - 7 AM is insane - I live half an hour away from this house. The Home Depot person I call is sympathetic, but there's no other option. She tells me to call after delivery and maybe there can be some sort of refund for the trouble this has been. So I get up before the sun, drive to an empty house, and wait. I finally get it, and they take the old one away. I email the company to tell them I want some sort of satisfaction for this mess, and they offer me a GIFT card. Like I'm going to buy more stuff there. I am still waiting to see how this works out, but this has more than confirmed my low opinion of Home Depot, or Home Disappointment, as a contractor I know has dubbed it. True indeed.

Since the problem was the loss of refrigerant by a leak somewhere, and the internal icemaker not working, the anticipated cost made me consider getting a new refrigerator. It would be nice to say that I went to the CBD of my community to find an appliance dealer. But that doesn't exist, so the choices are limited to a big box store or an hour travel. I suggest reviewing Consumer Reports for guidance. I did my Net research first. I opted for Home Depot. I looked at many models and decided upon one that was highly rated, energy efficient qualifying for a NYS rebate. I paid for it on a Weds and the cost of delivery and removing the old one very reasonable. Oneonta Home Depot said it could be delivered on Sat. between 10 AM and 2PM. Well to my happy surprise, I got a call at 945 AM that the delivery team would be at my home at 10 AM. They did a great job of removing my old, wounded refrigerator and put the new one in its place. It's nice to have a store that sells appliances, with a year warranty on parts and labor and actually does what it says. I like that Home Depot also sent me an email of my invoice and how to prepare for the delivery.

Whenever we call, there is never a direct answer about items in stock. Called recently for a…read moresimple yes or no answer and got the run around for far lounger than necessary. Then asked it's a simple yes or no question, do you have this item? At that point the customer service person hung up on me. Have personally witnessed the manager berate and belittle the employees in front of a line of customers. Not once but twice to the point we all looked at each other very uncomfortably. I do not know who owns this store but it is definitely in need of better leadership and training of staff. When I need to go to Ace, this is not the place. I will go to Walton instead.

We believe the everyday low prices mantra, we willingly sacrifice our soul to the machine. This is all on us. We own it. And in today's second generation of Main Street destruction we sit our unhealthy selves in the comfort of our overheated homes and with a few clicks of the mouse we have a cardboard package whisking it's way to us no mind the human interaction is gone and early onset diabetes gets closer with each substitution of small cardboard box for Main Street strolling we elect to make. But no worries. Soon healthcare will be provided us for free and one more choice that we previously got to make on our own will be gone. Good on us. Want to reclaim a bit of your independence? Want to add ten years to your life and a smile to your face? Go back to Main Street. I was in need of hardware to make a few improvements for mi madre and not being from these parts thought that the big boxes had killed a local hardware option and she said oh hell no we're going to Dubben Brothers they're good people. I was all no way San Jose Main Street is dead but bc Main Street was what mama wants and what mama wants is what all the offspring should recognize as their reason for getting out of bed in the morning off we went. Dubben Bros rocks. It's been there forever! It smells like old time hardware stores are supposed to smell and while it isn't ginormous it does have a ton of stuff. Maybe three varieties of the tool you seek instead of a million but do we really need a million brands to choose between no we do not. I'd suggest if you've recently moved to the area or been there awhile but not in this particular establishment that you drop by and look around to get a sense of what's in store. So to speak. One thing you'll find for sure is an old fashioned hospitality and genuine desire to be of assistance that's hard to find on 28. No disrespect intended those who work hard in those big corporate spaces but there a worker has to serve two masters - us AND the machine. And the priority isn't necessarily in that order.
