We believe the everyday low prices mantra, we willingly sacrifice our soul to the machine. This is all on us. We own it. And in today's second generation of Main Street destruction we sit our unhealthy selves in the comfort of our overheated homes and with a few clicks of the mouse we have a cardboard package whisking it's way to us no mind the human interaction is gone and early onset diabetes gets closer with each substitution of small cardboard box for Main Street strolling we elect to make. But no worries. Soon healthcare will be provided us for free and one more choice that we previously got to make on our own will be gone. Good on us. Want to reclaim a bit of your independence? Want to add ten years to your life and a smile to your face? Go back to Main Street. I was in need of hardware to make a few improvements for mi madre and not being from these parts thought that the big boxes had killed a local hardware option and she said oh hell no we're going to Dubben Brothers they're good people. I was all no way San Jose Main Street is dead but bc Main Street was what mama wants and what mama wants is what all the offspring should recognize as their reason for getting out of bed in the morning off we went. Dubben Bros rocks. It's been there forever! It smells like old time hardware stores are supposed to smell and while it isn't ginormous it does have a ton of stuff. Maybe three varieties of the tool you seek instead of a million but do we really need a million brands to choose between no we do not. I'd suggest if you've recently moved to the area or been there awhile but not in this particular establishment that you drop by and look around to get a sense of what's in store. So to speak. One thing you'll find for sure is an old fashioned hospitality and genuine desire to be of assistance that's hard to find on 28. No disrespect intended those who work hard in those big corporate spaces but there a worker has to serve two masters - us AND the machine. And the priority isn't necessarily in that order.

They have anything that a home-improvement store or hardware store could reasonably be expected to carry (and then some); the prices are fair; and I've always found the staff friendly and helpful. There have been quite a few times when I've stopped by with nothing more than a vague idea in my head, and walked out with a plan and everything I needed to make it happen because store staff brainstormed the project with me and gave me ideas that helped my vague idea a reality. Wadler Bros. is also a True Value franchise and carries (or can order) anything that True Value sells. I've read a lot of reviews that only mentioned masks and said nothing about the store itself. If whether people in the store are wearing masks is your main concern, then maybe this store isn't for you. Some employees wear them, some don't. Customers are free to wear them or not wear them as they see fit. There are plexiglass barriers at the checkout, however, and social distancing is enforced; so I, as an older man with multiple risk factors, feel comfortable shopping at this store. The hours took a while to get used to. The store is open M-F from 7:30 a.m to 4 p.m., and 7:30 to noon on Saturday. They are closed Sundays and on major civil and Jewish holidays. I'm semi-retired and live close by, so none of that is an issue for me. If you're coming from a distance, be aware that this store's hours are pretty limited. In summary, I like this store. I like the location, the selection, the prices, and the people. It's also nice to support a local family business, not to mention not having to drive to Kingston every time I need a nut or a bolt.

The Canal Street Hardware Store is one of those small town hardware stores that is becoming rare…read more With the big commercial stores in almost every area these little Mom & Pop stores are going out of business. We are blessed to have this one in Oxford! They sell just about everything. From chainsaw chains, chimney parts, canning supplies, boots, lawn mowers, guns, nails, to horse feed.....they have it all covered. If you need something they don't have they will order it for you. I needed a gauge for my canner and they looked it up on the computer and showed me what was available so they could order it for me. Lowe's, Tractor Supply and WalMart are less than ten miles away and I was afraid it would cause them to go out of business. No, it hasn't seemed to hurt them. Their prices are comparable to the bigger stores not over priced like you might think. The couple who own it are in the store often and wait on you just as much as the staff. Very courteous service. If you need help a clerk or one of the owners will come to help you. If you have a question about some project you are working on, they will take the time to answer your questions and show you what you need. Someone will load your vehicle if needed. Week-end mornings this little store is usually bustling with customers. Everyone seems to know each other and it is hard to get out of there sometimes because everyone wants to talk to you. We buy all our horse feed there every month and the price is very fair and about the same as other places. The feed we buy is manufactured in a town, Afton not that far away. So it is always very fresh and our girls love it and thrive on it. I highly recommend shopping here. If you are in the mood for a drive this little store is worth every mile!
