For example, they put a downspout directly over an electrical outlet, and they replaced items on our house that were NOT the rotted ones. We had to call them back to move the downspout so it wouldn't block the outlet, and to replace the correct items; they got angry and blamed US for cutting into their profit because doing the work the right way would cost them money. Second, they cut corners or use cheap materials despite the impact on their customers; for example, they used plastic gutter brackets that broke in a season instead of metal ones that hold up year after year. Third, good builders try to think ahead and account for contingencies in a project in advance and fairly, but in our experience Powell didn't use its imagination because it just put all risk of an unknown or cost overrun on us. This can result in large avoidable and unnecessary costs for the homeowner. Third, being lawyers, we recognized that proposals Powell gave us, which become binding contracts once signed, were, in our opinion, unfairly one-sided -- they protected only Powell in any contingency that arose during their work and if any litigation came from the contract. We tried to change this to protect ourselves too, but could not. We have found other builders who are fairer from the get-go, or who will promptly agree to changes to lopsided proposals, and such an attitude speaks volumes. Last, but certainly not least, we foolishly didn't get other bids for a few jobs that Powell did. When we wised up, we found that Powell cost 2-4 times what other builders did for the jobs we were doing. Bottom line -- we caution anyone considering using The Powell Company.

I've seen the one employee Mike curse a woman out and call her vile names simply because she drove around him (slowly) after sitting in traffic while him and his buddies stopped traffic and stood in the road. Mind you, this isn't exactly legal to be stopping and directing traffic without the authority but hey, let the owner deal with how his company is portrayed and how his employees present themselves to the public. From what I've seen in other reviews, they can't be doing very well business wise. So on top of shitty work & business they also have rude, entitled and disgusting attitudes. Don't waste your money with this "business".

I also often rent out my place for people who want to have a quiet place away before they leave for the Appalachian trail. I've had to put a halt to my business vacation and had to stop booking. I came over to check it out and then called your company and the lady Stephanie was very defensive and rude. I get that you take pride in something that puts food on your table, but make sure you do stellar work before trying to ruin one of your client's properties. I'm now on the hunt for a company who is a TOP seamless roofing company. Don't do business here! They have very poor quality and the customer service lady was so sweet at first manipulating me and my desire to upgrade. But she seriously needs mental help. I saw some good reviews and thought I'd help a small business get better reviews, but stay away. My money is better off elsewhere!

Erich's the kinda guy who can talk the talk (and talk he does, for hours on end), but not walk the…read morewalk. Supposedly he says he has "20 years of sheetrocking experience," but what he really means is he has 20 years of subcontracting experience to others. Most of the work that Erich did, he did in a shoddy way. The only saving grace, and the reason for a 1 star rating, is his workers were decent at their jobs at least. Took roughly a week of work to get my bathroom reno done. The project was simple: get my small, old barnboard and plaster and lathe bathroom up to date with drywall, 2x4 framing, fresh coat of paint, plumbing, tub/shower, and adding new vanities. The project was done in FEBRUARY OF 2025. First, the good parts: Bathroom looks much much better compared to what it started off as: a puke inducingly ugly thing, initially carpeted (which I took out immediately after purchasing the house), followed by scraping layers of rubber rotted carpet underlayment until the ugly plywood remained. The bathroom, after the renovation, now looks modern, clean, and the ceiling is much higher not having to have layer after layer of hackjob framing the previous owner of the house did. Erich's subs did...decent... work, although left much to be desired when it comes to proper finishing. Some drywall joints have visibly large amounts of mud, tape, and paint noticeable. Poor craftsmanship drywalling. The framing was done well at least, so I can do future bathroom renos myself. Last, but not least, a list of screwups off the top of my head that I can pin entirely on the business owner, Erich: The scope of work included adding fiberglass insulation within the walls of the newly framed bathroom--this was never done. Athough not required for inside walls, the scope and invoice pricing included this service. Of course, Erich pocketed the cost of insulation for himself after returning it to the store, rather than refund me for services not carried out, or even leaving the insulation so I could have used it later personally. Then, and this is quite embarassing, he struggled for a solid 45 minutes trying to install a toilet flange. I stand by what I stated: I would never hire you to replace a faucet in the future, let alone any sort of serious construction. Oh yes, he also failed to patch up a huge hole in the wall, which the scope of work included. I've attached a picture showing that, as well as I've labeled who worked on this project on the studs and the tub wall. (In the off chance I get dementia way down the line 40 years in the future, I'll know who did this sort of shoddy work, and not hire that company or their descendants). Finally, it is expected that you maintain a clean working environment. NO protection was used on my hardwood floors, including NO plastic sheets or cardboard sheets to prevent construction debris and dust from getting rubbed in. I had my roomba mop the room at least 3 dozen times before the hardwood got back to its starting shape. Plaster and lath dust gets EVERYWHERE. Oh, and the icing on the cake: Erich was supposed to have hauled away the construction waste after job completion. This was NEVER DONE. In fact, the contractor I hired for my roofing project did that. You should be ashamed of yourself, that ANOTHER contractor had to fix your screwups. My entire garage was FILLED with at least 40 construction bags of debris. All I got were excuses after excuses: oh my guy's wife is sick, oh my truck broke down, etc etc. Keep in mind, this is now AUGUST of 2025 and he still has yet to pick up his junky old vacuum cleaner which he left behind here ON TOP OF THE OTHER JUNK... BACK IN FEBRUARY! (And I just got to this review after so long because I had a whole slew of other projects going on this year--new metal roof, removing a chimney and fireplace, framing and drywalling my living room, etc, all done by another contractor who actually gives cares about proper worksmanship). TLDR: Stay clear of this guy. TERRIBLE business. By FAR the worst contractor I have ever used. See screenshots for more details.
