Trees were down in the area, the lights were out, and the entire crew was working in the dark. Because the internet was down, they hadn't received any of the online orders, including mine. At that point, most places would have locked the doors, put up a sign, and called it a day. Instead, they apologized, explained what had happened, and told me the gas ovens still worked. They offered to make the entire order from scratch. The team stayed in a hot, non-air-conditioned building, cooking pizzas by flashlight and waiting for every customer who had placed an online order to arrive. They could have gone home. Instead, they chose to take care of their customers. The pizza was excellent, but what stood out was the character of the people working there. Flexible, resilient, and genuinely committed to doing the right thing despite difficult circumstances. That's the kind of business worth supporting. Five stars.

So I'm very happy that they now have a second location on Madison that is much closer to me. And they will deliver to me from Madison! Good, NY style pizza needs to have a dough that allows a slice to be easily folded (NY style pizza is always folded and held in your hand; it is never eaten with a knife and fork). The sauce has to be rich and not too sweet. Solle's has an excellent crust and tasty sauce. My go-to toppings are sausage and mushroom. True, NY-style pizza uses a special type of sausage that comes in thin, rectangular strips. Solle's uses authentic, NY-style pizza sausage. They also use great tasting mushrooms that have been pre-cooked so that they don't get watery. They have a 3 topping special so we also added black olives. It was a great tasting pizza. We added a house salad and were surprised to see how big it was and how full of veggies and olives it was (most other places give a lot of lettuce with few veggies). And I liked their house made Italian dressing. I look forward to enjoying many more pies from Solle's.

When we finally approached the two employees behind the counter to ask for help, we were told it "wasn't their job" to take our order. They chose to stand around chatting rather than help paying customers. The indoor waitstaff at this location is suffering from a massive attitude problem and desperately needs basic customer service training. When a local spot makes you feel so neglected that you'd honestly rather go to a major pizza chain instead, you know something is broken. Management needs to address this immediately.
